Abstract:The paper focuses on theoretical issues in the field of pedagogy in translation.Compared with traditional translation teaching,process-oriented translation teaching(PROTT),due to its own advantages,can better accommodate the requirements of modern society on learners in terms of knowledge and skill acquisition.Under the theoretical framework of the curriculum theory,the two models of translation teaching are compared and analyzed in four respects,that is,rationales,objectives,procedures and evaluation strategies.Based on the preceding comparisons and analyses,the authors argue that PROTT can not only improve student translators' autonomous learning but also provide a foothold for translation teachers/trainers to explicate translation theories used in translators' decision-making process.

Abstract:Translation is an activity taking use of language as a medium,not referring to the translation version itself only.Therefore,translation studies cannot be constrained in studying the translation version,but should go deeper laying more emphasis on the research of process.Translating activity involves psychological activities and language application,and psycholinguistics is just a science studying the relations between language and psychological activities.So psycholinguistics can provide explanations and analyses for the translation process from the basic aspects of language,psychology,and thought,serving as the deeper theory foundation for translation studies.It has become one of the developing trends for the translation studies to broaden the present studies with an interdisciplinary perspective.

Abstract:Based on some research and investigations on the history and status quo of the study on translation unit,this author holds the view that the past definitions and discussions concerning translation unit do not take translator's subjectivity into consideration.Translation unit should have two layers: one is unit of analyzing and the other is unit of translating.The former,usually above sentence level,includes analysis of linguistic points in the source text,exhibiting its characteristics as a sense unit,while the latter,usually at or below sentence level,includes analysis of non-linguistic points,exhibiting its features as a linguistic unit.The two layers contribute to make a dynamic and multi-layered system of unit of translation.

Abstract:Translation is a complicated mental process ,involving such factors as culture,cognition, emotion and consciousness.To explore the translation process from the angle of mental models is an attempt to apply findings of cognitive science to the research of translation.The delivery of meaning in the process of translation is intimately associated with the selective processing activities of the mental models,which contribute to or limit,to a great extent,translators’comprehension of the linguistic forms,representation of meanings in the original work, and hence their stylistic choices and expressions of forms and meanings in the targets language.

Abstract:The cultural translation view considers translation as a cross-cultural communication activity. The paradigm and thinking of translation will also have profound changes in different cultural contexts. It can be seen from modern translation studies that the translation circle has paid full attention to the cultural differences between the two languages, and due to the profound influence of culture, translators have gradually formed their own unique and personalized cultural understanding and translation concepts in translation practice. Starting from the influence of cultural context on Chinese-English translation, this article explores the cultural context in Chinese-English translation combined with practical work experience, and the understanding and practice of translation activities under the cultural translation perspective.

In recent years, a wealth of empirical research in this field has emerged, but most focus on non-literary texts and are conducted under experimental conditions. Due to the shortcomings of the existing literature, Claudine Borg decided to write this book. It records how a literary translation was created and preserves the translator’s actual work environment as far as possible to ensure ecological validity.

Abstract:The past 30 years and especially the first decade of the 21st century have witnessed a remarkable progress in cognitive research on translation process. The progress manifests itself in a growing tendency to apply advanced techniques and data-elicitation methods of cognitive sciences to translation studies. The remarkable findings of a number of large-scale international research projects in this respect have not only facilitated an integration of the two areas but are also pushing for the establishment of a new discipline, i.e., cognitive translation studies. The new discipline is, however, confronted with formidable challenges stemming from its lack of a systematic theoretical model, its insufficiency in methodology-related research, and its inadequate scheme for resource sharing. To ensure a smooth development of cognitive translation studies, attention must be turned to researches on its theoretical modeling, methodology, and resource sharing, and on a further specification of its subjects and variables as well.

Abstract:With the development of The Times, translation studies are no longer limited to text and syntax, but have expanded from in-text studies to out-of-text studies. Translation activities are carried out in two cultural contexts. Therefore, from a new translation perspective, the translation process pays more attention to the target language culture and the influence of various social, cultural and economic factors on translation activities, thus developing the translator's subjectivity. The status of the translator is gradually revealed, which makes the translation closer to the target language culture and expands the target audience. Based on the comparison between traditional translation theory and multi-system theory, this paper takes the translation of Dream of Red Mansions as an example, and has an in-depth study of the translator's subjectivity in the translation process through comparison and analysis, emphasizing the important effect of the translator's subjectivity in translation activities,so as to provide references for how to produce high-quality text translation.

Abstract:In translation studies, the role of the translator is becoming more and more conspicuous. Despite the fact that translation is a transfer from one language to another, especially a semantic one, the role of the translator is, on no account, a simple proxy of technological communication or a passive transcultural mediator. During recent years, scholars have conducted an array of researches on translation process, from the perspective of linguistics, cognitive psychology, psychological linguistics, etc. As for translation process, it is imperative that the translator take various questions into consideration, such as the characteristics of the target language, the cultural factors of the target language, the perception of the original text, the translator’s habits, etc. The English translation of Yuewei Caotang Biji by Yi Izzy Yu and John Yu Branscum has been conceived of as popular in the English world, and has achieved superb effect of transcultural communication. This translated work’s strategy of translating as editing has substantial effects in its’ success, which renders this book easily available to readers in the target culture.

Abstract:The study of translation quality self-evaluation represents a shift of focus from product to process in the field of translation quality research. As this is a new and rarely explored field of investigation, a complete description of the research object will serve as a strong foundation for its future development. This research uses screen-recording software as an instrument to observe the phenomena of translation quality self-evaluation as manifested by expert translators. The results of the observation prove that translation quality self-evaluation is an essential part of any translation process, and that it takes place not only in the revision stage but also in the very first stage of meaning generation. The research also sheds some light on the content, criteria, and external and internal resources used in the process of translation quality self-evaluation.

Abstract:In the past two thousand years,translation studies covered diversified ways from the traditional argument between schools of literary rendering and liberal rendering to postmodernist theories of deconstructivism,feminism,postcolonialism,polysystem schools,and cultural schools.Each of them stated his own understanding towards translation in different angles and approaches and seemed never to be persuaded to give in and completely accept others’ theoretics regardless of either normative standards or descriptive theories.It shows that all of them need to be improved and promoted.In this paper,after deep comparative studies of western and Chinese translation theories,the author discovered the key problems of those theories and reached a new idea named “Sharing THE CORE” through a case study.

Abstract:Translation study undergoes a turning point from praxis philosophy to rational philosophy.A rational consideration of translation focuses on the ontological study,the subjective study,and the existential study,of translation.Its common tendency is to think that the theoretical construction of translation should be aimed at the transcendental inquiries of "translation of translation",stressing the split of translation theory from the phenomena translation so as to approach the "truth-value" and establish an everlasting fulcrum for translation study.This approach will possibly lead translation study onto a road of reductionalism and also clear up a road for translation study ascending into the academic realm of humanistic concern.

Abstract:Current translation theories and translation critiques generally focus on a contrastive analysis between the original text and the rendered one.Little attention is paid to another dimension of the translating process,i.e.the impact of translation on the target language.In the history of translation,however,there have always been great translators who set up the transformation of the target lan-guage as the main objective of their work.This objective has been either neglected or misinterpreted,as in the case of Lu Xun.But if we examine the development of modern Chinese language,we will see that both the modern political discourse and the literary language in China have been deeply influenced by translated texts.

Abstract:Translation is actually a restatement,in target language,of the original meaning in source language. And the meaning formation is closely related to human's cognition. Abstract:A key objective of translation instruction is to improve the ability of translation thinking.To this end,the research on translation thinking becomes a prerequisite.In light of cognitive psychology,cognitive linguistics,and psychology of thinking,this article first analyzes the characteristics of translation thinking process,the types of transfer thinking,and the qualities and structures of translation thinking.It then analyzes the structural differences in translation thinking between novice and expert translators.On this basis,it proposes that priority in translation instruction be given to cultivating the optimal thinking habit and monitoring thinking ability.Suggestions on translation instruction are also provided.

Abstract:On its reflection and transcendence over itself,translation is unexpectedly found to be rooted in a non-fundamental existence.What it concerns with is not only a deconstructive attitude towards the essentialism and author—centrism of traditional translation study,but also an existentially embodied understanding towards translation,which inherently follows a way of existentialism.This mode of thought,while subverting the sameness typical of "fidelity" and "equivalence",surprisingly drags translation into the self-consciousness of "dasein" in terms of ontology.
