Quality of Communication Between Dentists and Dental Technicians for Removable Partial Denture

Abstract:Objective:Theaimofthisinvestigationwastoexamine the qualityofcommunication between dentistsand dental technicians for removable partial denture in China.Methods:400 pre-piloted questionnaires were distributed to large commercial dental laboratories in China.Information was sought relating to the quality of written instructions for removable partial denture,as well as the response of dental technician to not well filled written instructions.Results:Information was received relating to 324 items.Twenty-nine percent of written instructions provided the patients'general information of gender and age.Only five percent of these items clarified disinfection of impressions or models delivered.Most of instructions (89%) showed the type and position of the clasp,however,just seventy-four percent of instructions gave the information of connector,as well as only seven percent of instructions mentioned the information about the artificial teeth.Although in eighty-one percent of cases major or minor inadequacy of prescription was revealed,there were only eleven percent of dental technicians would contact the dentist for clarification of the design.Conclusion:The communication between dentists and dental technicians was inadequate in China.And it was revealed that both dentists and dental technicians were lack of desire and willingness to communicate with each other,which can subsequently compromise the quality of RPD and should be taken care of.
