Abstract:A person's social support networks can offer him(her) such supports as emotional aid,financial aid,companionship and information.The study of social support networks for financially disadvantaged university students by name-generator shows that there are some common characteristics between social support networks of financially disadvantaged university students and those of other students.For example,the size of financial aid network and the size of information network are smaller than those of emotional aid network and companionship network.Current friends and family members are the main parts of social support networks.However,comparing with the social support networks for other students,the density of social support networks for financially disadvantaged university students is smaller while their heterogeneity is greater.There are more rural members in rural students′ networks and more financially disadvantaged members in financially disadvantaged students' networks.As a result,financially disadvantaged university students′ social network can give less supports than other students' networks.More teachers and college students should be encouraged to offer supports for financially disadvantaged students.
