Abstract:The advance in prion protein was reviewed in the aspects of the molecular biological characteristics of cellular prion protein(PrPc),the physiological function of PrPc,the effects of PrPsc on immune system,the peripheral prion pathogenesis,the relationship among cytokines,chemokines and PrPsc neu-roinvasion,the transmissible mechanism of PrPsc into nervous system,the portals of entry for PrPsc,PrPsc transmission through blood,and the pathologic markers.The new methods for the detection of prion disease were also discussed.
