Abstract:The Pilot-Symbol Assisted Modulation(PSAM) is an usual channel estimation for OFDM systems.This paper addressed the PSAM channel estimation in transform domain interpolation.On the basis of DFT-based interpolation,the algorithm based on the theory of discrete cosine transform(DCT) was proposed for channel estimation.Simulation results showed that,as compared with the DFT-based channel estimator,the proposed interpolator achieves better performance of MSE and SER and it provides a performance similar to the MMSE channel estimation with significantly much lower computational complexity.

Abstract:This paper considers the time and frequency synchronization based on the interspersed pilots. The shortcoming of an existing algorithm is observed, and a new channel estimation assisted time and frequency algorithm is proposed. Since the channel estimation is always needed by the data transmission, our newly proposed algorithm can improve the synchronization performance without too much increase in the complexity. The simulations prove the effectiveness of the newly proposed algorithm.

Abstract:The time-varying channel estimation methods for OFDM systems based on pilot tones are investigated. Grouped and equispaced pilot tones to estimate the channel impulse response (CIR) of some given moments are used. The CIR of other moments over one OFDM symbol is estimated by a new low-pass interpolation method proposed in this paper. The simulation results show that the normal mean-square error (NMSE) of the proposed method is smaller than the linear interpolation method and model-based interpolation method.

The channels are estimated using the EM (expectation-maximization) algorithm, while making use of pilot tones to obtain the initial estimate for iterative steps. Abstract:For the sake of bandwidth efficiency, one preamble pilot OFDM symbol is preferable for channel estimation of an OFDM system with two transmit antennas, a transform-domain processing method of channel estimation is proposed in this paper, which is equivalent to interpolation in the frequency domain. And a simple time-domain noise-suppression method is utilized to improve the accuracy of the channel estimation. Theoretic analysis and simulation results validate the accuracy of the channel estimation method proposed in this paper.

Abstract:For applications of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) in time-variant channels,a simple but efficient method for channel estimation is proposed.In this method,the data are assumed to be transmitted in packets while the pilot sequences and data sequences are combined by superimposing.After getting the channel impulse responses corresponding to each frame of OFDM signals in a packet,they are weightedly averaged over the packet.In such a way the accuracy of channel estimation is improved.This method can be applied to the time variant wireless channels without occupying any spectrum resources.Computer simulation results are also given to show the efficiency of the present method.

Abstract:In Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems, how to estimate rapidly time-varying channels exactly is a challenge issue. In this paper, relying on a basis expansion channel model, a channel estimation scheme of rapidly time-varying channels is proposed for OFDM systems. Along with the channel estimation scheme, the optimal pilot sequence and optimal placement of the pilot tones are also derived with respect to the mean square error (MSE) of the channel estimate. It is shown that the optimal pilot sequence consists of some adjacent equipowered and equispaced subsequences, and each of them is constrained by certain phase conditions. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed channel estimation scheme in rapidly time-varying scenarios and the superiority of using the derived optimal pilot sequences.

Abstract:Filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) modulation based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM), known as FBMC/OQAM, is considered as an advancement to the conventional CP-OFDM (cyclic-prefix based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) for wireless communications network. With well designed prototype filter and deletion of guard interval (GI), FBMC/OQAM can provide higher spectral efficiency than CP-OFDM. However, the orthogonality property of FBMC only holds in real field and an intrinsic inter-symbol-interference is observed in multi-path propagation channel. Thus, the classical channel estimation methods used for OFDM cannot be directly applied to FBMC/OQAM. In this paper, a new pilot-aided channel estimation method named MIAM and a new pilot design scheme for tile based sub-channel mode are proposed, which can reduce the interference and improve the channel estimation performance in FBMC/OQAM. Simulation results by using different channel estimation methods over the time-varying multi-path channel are provided in this paper.

Abstract:Multi input,multi output-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(MIMO-OFDM systems use an efficient high-rate wireless communication method that is very sensitive to the channel estimation.The pilot design principle was applied to the MIMO-OFDM to develop a multi-path allocation and time domain channel estimation algorithm for multi-path MIMO channels.The circuit shift orthogonality of the pilots is used to locate the multiple paths to determine the multi-path channel response in the time domain.Simulations show that,compared with conventional interpolation estimates in the frequency domain,this algorithm gives distinct improvements in the channel estimates with low computation complexity.In addition,using the Golay complementary series(GCS as the pilot symbol reduces the OFDM peak average power ratio(PAPR 2～5 dB.

Abstract:The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system applies coherent demodulation to achieve high spectral efficiency at a bandwidth cost by the pilot tones. Considering the statistical property of the down-link channels to the users, it can be found that there is an opportunity to reduce the pilot number in the conventional designs while maintaining the same signal demodulation performances. The design philosophy involves utilizing the difference of the channel coherent bandwidths (CCBs) by allocating data to appropriate positions upon the fact that different CCBs can tolerate different minimized pilot spacing. The proposed design allows each user's equipment's data not to exceed its CCB with the sparser pilots. The theoretical analysis is carried out based on the concept of channel frequency response using linear interpolation with channel estimation employing the least squares (LS) method. The gain of the proposed method is demonstrated in terms of the ergodic capacities and confirmed by the simulations.

Abstract:In single frequency network (SFN), there exist some special long delay spread channels as well as conventional multipath channels. For pilot-aided orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) systems, channel estimation is usually accomplished by interpolation with pilots. However, few pilot sub-carriers exist within the coherent bandwidth of the long delay spread channels in SFN. In this case, conventional frequency domain interpolation methods cannot work properly. In a narrowband channel, this paper indicates that both the real and the imaginary parts of channel frequency response can be accurately approximated as a sine-wave with DC offset. For many practical pilot-aided OFDM systems, the bandwidth of the narrowband channel mentioned before is comparable with the interval between several adjacent pilot sub-carriers. Then this paper proposes a sine-wave based frequency domain interpolation method for the channel estimation of pilot-aided OFDM systems in SFN. As simulation results show, the proposed method performs well in the long delay spread channel, whereas the mismatched Wiener interpolation filter (WIF) estimates channel response inaccurately. Moreover, the proposed method gives accurate channel estimation in conventional multipath channels, especially for the systems which adopt high order modulations.

Abstract:With the development of high speed trains (HST) in many countries, providing broadband wireless services in HSTs is becoming crucial. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) has been widely adopted for broadband wireless communications due to its high spectral efficiency. However, OFDM is sensitive to the time selectivity caused by high-mobility channels, which costs large spectrum or time resources to obtain the accurate channel state information (CSI). Therefore, the channel estimation in high-mobility OFDM systems has been a long-standing challenge. In this paper, we first propose a new position-based high-mobility channel model,in which the HST's position information and Doppler shift are utilized to determine the positions of the dominant channel coefficients. %In this way, we can reduce the estimation complexity and to design the transmitted <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://pilot.Then" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, we propose a joint pilot placement and pilot symbol design algorithm for compressed channel estimation. It aims to reduce the coherence between the pilot signal and the proposed channel model, and hence can improve the channel estimation accuracy. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performances than existing channel estimation methods over high-mobility channels. Furthermore, we give an example of the designed pilot codebook to show the practical applicability of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:The paper investigates two types of combined channel estimator (CCE) for pilot-assisted orthogonal frequency division multiplexing mobile communication systems. The CCE-type1 is a double maximum-likelihood (ML) based estimator, which works under a limit condition that the number of pilot tones should not be smaller than the channel length. The bit-error-rate performance can be improved significantly by employing this estimator. The CCE-type2 is a second-order polynomial model and ML combined approach. It has better performance than the traditional approach when the limit condition is not satisfied. Simulation results are given to corroborate our discussion.

Abstract:We present an improved and robust channel estimation method for OFDM mobile communication systems based on the use of pilot subcarriers. Specifically, we present an inter-path interference cancellation (IPIC) method to estimate the channel multipath time delays. With the multipath time delays information, a minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimator is then derived to estimate the channel multipath gains. It is demonstrated that the proposed channel estimation scheme can significantly improve the performance of OFDM systems and that it is also quite robust to the variations in the channel statistics.
Low-Complexity Channel Estimation Method for OFDM Systems

Abstract:A low-complexity channel estimation method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems is proposed.At the receiver,the power and phases of the pilots are designed based on the minimum mean-square error(MSE) criteria and the given pilot placement.At the receiver,the estimation of the channel impulse response is obtained by directly adding the received pilots and then multiplying the sum by a weighted factor.Since only a small number of complex multiplications are needed in the estimation,the computational complexity at the receiver is very low.Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that,when the channel is time-invariant or slowly time-varying,the method has a relatively small estimation MSE.

Abstract:One of the attractive features of OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)is its simple one-tap equalizer.Nevertheless,the channel information has to be identified firstly.In this paper,an OFDM channel estimation method,based on implicit pilot only employing first order statistics of the received signal,is proposed.Simulation results show that good channel estimation performance can be obtained by using the proposed method and the optimal value of the implicit sequence's energy is discussed.

Abstract:A noise-resilient channel estimation algorithm was developed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems for comb, block, grid, and diamond pilot patterns. The effect of channel noise was mitigated with pre-correction of the pilot slippage, two-dimensional discrete Fourier transforms and filtering in the transformed domain. Zero padding and two-dimensional inverse discrete Fourier transforms were used to interpolate the channel transfer function, with a modified cosine window used to reduce the spectral leakage due to the interpolation. The simulation results show that the system performance with the proposed algorithm is significantly improved compared with the traditional Least Squares estimate, having a 2 dB better signal-to-noise ratio per bit. The algorithm can be used to improve wide-band OFDM systems.

Abstract:Pilot-aided channel estimation allows the receiver to acquire channel state information (CSI) for each multicarrier block by multiplexing data and pilot symbols in the same block, as long as they can be decoupled. This work proposes several frequency-domain pilot multiplexing techniques to enable independent channel estimation and detection at the receiver for orthogonal chirp division multiplexing (OCDM) transmissions in frequency-selective channels. Analysis shows that each of the proposed schemes is able to achieve the mean squared error (MSE) lower bound for channel estimation and has greater spectral efficiency than the existing schemes for OCDM and chirp spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM).

Abstract:Optimal pilot design is an important issue for OFDM systems since the pilot tones significantly affect channel estimation performance. Unlike the conventional approaches which derive the optimal pilot tones along with a certain channel estimation method, this paper proposes a novel approach that optimizes the pilot tones and the channel estimator jointly based on the MMSE criterion. It can be shown that the proposed approach not only outperforms the conventional ones at low SNRs, but also reduces the complexity of the channel estimator at the receiver.
