Abstract:A new steroidal glycoside (1), (25R)-14α, 17α-hydroxyspirost-5-en-3β-yl 3-O-α-L-rhamnpyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-glucopyranoside, together with three known steroidal glycosides, (25R)-3β-hydroxyspirost-5-en-1β-yl-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2), Cixi-ophiopogon B (3) and Cixi-ophiopogon A (4), were obtained from the tuberous roots of Ophiopogon japonicus (Liliaceae). Compound 2 was isolated from the Ophiopogon genus for the first time. Their structures were identified on the basis of extensive mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis.

Abstract:A new monoterpene glycoside named as pedivertoside D (1), together with 13 known compounds (2-14, resp.) were isolated from the whole plant of Pedicularis verticillata L. The new compound was identified as (2E,6E,5R)-5,8-dihydrooxy-2,6-dimethyl-3,7-octadienyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside by spectroscopic methods including 2 D-NMR techniques. The known compounds were determined spectroscopically and compared with previously reported spectral data. Compounds 6 and 9 exhibited anticomplementary effects against the classical pathway (CP) with CH50 values of 0.07 mM and 0.23 mM, respectively, which are plausible candidates for developing potent anti-complementary agents from this plant. Abstract:Two new acorane-type sesquiterpenoids, harzianes A and B ( 1 and 2 ), together with two known cyclonerodiol-type sesquiterpenoids ( 3 – 4 ) and four known sterols ( 5 – 8 ) were isolated from the endophytic Trichoderma harzianum , associated with the medicinal plant Paeonia lactiflora Pall. Compounds 1 and 2 were identified as a pair of heterotropic isomers by spectroscopic analysis (HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR), and their absolute configurations were determined by ECD calculations. All compounds were tested for anti-inflammatory activity, however, none demonstrated such activity.

Abstract:Three pairs of enantiomeric sesquiterpenoids, (-/+)-syringanoid A (1a and 1b) and (+/-)-pinnatanoids A (2a and 2b) and B (3a and 3b), that represent an unprecedented 5/4/6 tricyclic backbone and a rare 6/7 bicyclic backbone, respectively, were isolated from the peeled stems of Syringa pinnatifolia. The structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, a modified Mosher's method, and quantum chemical calculations. A plausible biotransformation pathway for 1-3 was proposed, and their cardiomyocyte-protective and anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated.

Abstract:Three pairs of undescribed diarylpentanoid enantiomers ( 1 – 3 ) and five undescribed phenylpropanoids ( 4 – 8 ), along with seven known compounds, were isolated from the roots of Anthriscus sylvestris . The structures of compounds ( 1 – 8 ) were determined by analysis of their 1D and 2D NMR spectra, HRESIMS, and electronic circular dichroism. In addition, the inhibitory activities against hypoxia-stimulated pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells abnormal proliferation were evaluated by MTT assay . The mRNA expression levels of Bcl-2, BAX, Caspase3, and IL-6 were detected by quantitative real-time PCR. The results showed that compounds (−)- 1 , (+)- 1 , (−)- 2 , (+)- 3 , 4 , 8 – 10 , 14 , and 15 inhibited the abnormal proliferation of PASMCs by regulating the levels of apoptosis and inflammatory factors.

Abstract:Two new phenylpropanoid amide glycosides and ten analogues were isolated from the CH_2Cl_2 layer of 95% ethanol extract of the whole plants of Corydalis racemosa by using various chromatographic techniques, including silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS column chromatographies, and semi-preparative HPLC. Their structures were identified on the basis of physicochemical properties, MS, NMR, and IR spectroscopic data as N-cis-sinapoyltyramine-4'-O-β-glucoside(1), N-cis-sinapoyl-3-methoxytyramine-4'-O-β-glucoside(2), N-cis-sinapoyltyramine(3), N-cis-feruloyltyramine(4), N-trans-cinnamoyltyramine(5), N-trans-feruloylphenethylamine(6), N-trans-p-methoxycinnamoyl-3-hydoxyoctopamine(7), N-cis-feruloyl-3-methoxytyramine(8), N-trans-feruloyltyramine(9), N-trans-feruloyl-3-methoxytyramine(10), N-trans-sinapoyltyramine(11), and N-trans-p-coumaroyltyramine(12). Compounds 1 and 2 are new compounds. Compounds 3-7 are obtained from the plants of Papaveraceae for the first time, and compounds 8-12 are firstly isolated from C. racemosa.

Abstract:Pairs of enantiomeric phenylpropanoid glycosides and their aglycones, (8R)-stroside A ( 1 ), (8S)-stroside A ( 2 ), (8R)-evofolin B ( 3 ), and (8S)-evofolin B ( 4 ), were isolated from the hook-bearing stems of Uncaria rhynchophylla (Miq.) Miq. ex Havil. Among of these compounds, (8R)-stroside A ( 1 ) was a new one, and other known compounds were isolated from the genus Uncaria for the first time. The structure of the new compound was elucidated by extensive analysis of MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and ECD data.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var.longipedunculata led to the isolation of 10 known sesquiterpenes,including 12-hydroxy-a-cyperone (1),1β,6a-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15)-ene (2),carainterol A (3),oplodiol (4),douglanin (5),1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al (6),3α,6α-dihydroxybisabola-4,10-diene (7),4a,5β-dihydroxybisabola-2,10-diene (8),opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol (9),and saniculamoid D (10),respectively.Their structures were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.All the isolates were obtained from A.giraldii var.longipedunculata for the first time,and five of them were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time.Additionally,the 13C NMR data of 1 were fully assigned based on the 2D NMR data for the first time.

Abstract:Three new iridoids named as pediverticilatasin A - C (1 - 3, resp.), together with five known iridoids (4 - 8, resp.) were isolated from the whole plants of Pedicularis verticillata. The structures of three new compounds were identified as (1S,7R)-1-ethoxy-1,5,6,7-tetrahydro-7-hydroxy-7-methylcyclopenta[c]pyran-4(3H)-one (1), (1S,4aS,7R,7aS)-1-ethoxy-1,4a,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-7-hydroxy-7-methylcyclopenta[c]pyran-4-carboxylic acid (2), (1S,4aS,7R,7aS)-1-ethoxy-1,4a,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-7-hydroxy-7-methylcyclopenta[c]pyran-4-carbaldehyde (3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods and compared with the NMR spectra data in the literature. All compounds were evaluated for their anti-complementary activity on the classical pathway of the complement system in vitro. Among which, compounds 1, 3, and 6 exhibited anti-complementary effects with CH50 values ranging from 0.43 to 1.72 mm, which are plausible candidates for developing potent anti-complementary agents.

Abstract:Two new diterpenoids, wikstroelide Q (1) and prostratin Q (5), together with three known diterpenoids, pimelea factors P₂ (2), P₃ (3), and prostratin (4), and five known lignans, (+)-epipioresinol (6), (+)-isolariciresinol (7), (−)-lariciresinol (8), (+)-epi-sesaminone (9), and prestegane B (10), were isolated from the buds of Wikstroemia chamaedaphne Meissn. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic analyses. Compounds 1–10 were evaluated for their cytotoxicities against HL-60, SMMC-7721, A549, MCF-7, SW480, and BEAS-2B cell lines in vitro.

Abstract:Much attention has been paid to cholestane-type steroidal glycosides because of their importance from the perspectives of both chemical diversity and significant biological activities. A phytochemical investigation of the rhizomes of Polygonatum odoratum (Liliaceae) resulted in the isolation of three novel cholestane-type steroidal glycosides (1-3) with unique Δ(14,16)-unsaturated D-ring structures as well as two novel spirostane-type steroidal saponins (4 and 5) and three known steroidal glycosides (6-8). Their structures were determined by various spectroscopic methods and chemical reactions. Steroidal saponin 7 showed significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans JCM1542 (MIC 3.1 μg/mL) and Aspergillus fumigatus JCM1738 (MIC 6.3 μg/mL).

Abstract:Two previously undescribed iridoid glycosides, 6'- O -trans-feruloyl-(4 S ,6 R )-3,4-dihydro-3 β -ethoxypaederoside ( 1 ) and 6'- O -trans-caffeoyl-(4 S ,6 R )-3,4-dihydro-2'- O -3 α -paederoside ( 2 ), were isolated from the 90% EtOH extract of the air dried aerial parts of Paederia Foetida . Structural elucidation of all the compounds was performed by spectral methods such as 1D and 2D ( 1 H - 1 H COSY, HMQC, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy. The two isolated iridoid glycosides were tested in vivo for their antinociceptive properties. As a result, 2 showed potent antinociceptive effect and its ID 50 value (53.4 μmol/kg) was 2-fold less than those of the positive control drugs aspirin and acetaminophen.

Abstract:Three new sesquiterpenes were isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces sp. and their structures were determined as caryolane-1,7α-diol (1), 1,6,11-eudesmanetriol; (1α,6β)-form (2), 11-eudesmene-1,6-diol; (1α,6β)-form (3), together with nine known compounds as caryolane-1,9α-diol (4), 2-methyl-5-nonanol (5), soyasaponin I (6), cyclo (Ala-Leu) (7), homononatinic acid (8), β-sitosteryl glucoside-3'-O-heptadecoicate (9), 2'-deoxythymidine (10), 2'-deoxyuridine (11), trehalose (12). Abstract:Three new phenylpropanoids, namely (7′ R ,8′ R ) guaiacylglycerol 4′- O - β -D-[6′′- O -(4- O - β -D-glucopyranosyl)- p -hydroxylbenzoyl]-glucopyranoside (1) , (7 R ,8 R ) guaiacylglycerol 8- O -1′-(2′,6′-dimethoxy-4′- O - β -D-glucopyranosyl)-benzene (2) , (7′ R ,8′ R ) guaiacylglycerol 4′- O - β -D-[6′′- O -3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxylbenzoyl]-glucopyranoside (3) , along with one known phenylpropanoid (4) were isolated from the ethanol extract of Phyllostachys nigra var . henonis fresh culm. The structures of all compounds were determined by analysis of UV, 1D NMR, 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS and CD data. All compounds were evaluated for their DPPH radical scavenging activity. Compound 2 (IC 50 54.9 μM) and 3 (IC 50 77.2 μM) exhibited moderate antioxidant activity compared with two positive control compounds L-ascorbic acid (IC 50 15.5 μM) and 2,6-ditertbutyl-4-methyl phenol (IC 50 19.1 μM).

[Phenolic and amide constituents from Lycianthes marlipoensis]

Abstract:Ten known phenolic compounds including [4]-gingerol (1), [6]-gingerol (2), [10]-gingerol (3), (3S,5S)-3,5-dihydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) decane (4), (3R,5S) -3, 5-dihydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) decane (5), [6]-shogaol (6), [10]-shogaol (7), gingerenone A (8), hexahydrocurcumin (9), and (3R,5R)-3,5-dihydroxy-1,7-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) heptane (10), and seven amides including piperine (11), isochavicine (12), isopiperine (13), N-trans-p-coumaroyl tyramine (14), N-trans-feruloyl tyramine (15), N-trans-p-coumaroyl octopamine (16), N-trans-feruloyl octopamine (17), were isolated and identified from the roots of Lycianthes marlipoensis. Compounds 1-13 and 17 were isolated from the genus Lycianthes for the first time.

Abstract:Two new furostanol saponins, polygonoides A (1) and B (2), along with three known compounds, were obtained from the ethanolic extract of the rhizome of Polygonatum sibiricum Redoute. On the basis of acid hydrolysis and comprehensive spectroscopic analyses, the structures of polygonoides A and B were elucidated as (25R)-26-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-furost-5,22(23)-dien-3beta,26-diol-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)]-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1) and 22 alpha-(propionyloxy)-furost-5-en-3beta,20 alpha-diol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)]-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2).

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.
