E-waste Recycling Strategies of China

Abstract:China has become one of the biggest countries in Electronic and Electronical Equipment (EEE) production and consumption. With the retired EEE (e-waste) rapidly, China governments, industrial organisations and academia have paid much attention to the e-wastes issue. Through surveying over 40 Chinese enterprises and organisations, such as Haier group, Changhong electric co., ltd., whose business scopes include EEE production, outdated EEE exchange and disposal, we analyse the states and issues of the industrial cluster of EEE, the sources of e-waste and the recycling technology of ewaste in China. The surveys show that there is a whole waste EEE industrial chain in China, in which enterprises play the different role, such as collection, maintenance, disassembly, recycling, recovery and disposal of waste EEE. But the enterprise of the industrial chain only concerns the profit and seldom considers the environmental loads. In order to pursue the biggest profit, three channel of e-waste collection are built. The first channel got the inferior products from the EEE manufacturer. The second got the outdated EEE from the individual or organisation consumer and the last got the outdated EEE through import. On the basis of the surveys and analyses, we put forward the strategies on e-waste recycling in China, which will concentrate on building law system about e-waste issue, managing the second hand market and developing technology for e-wastes recycling and disposal.
