Abstract:Compared to well-known geological hazards such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and mudslides, the concept of"geomagnetic hazards"is much less familiar to peo-ple.Geomagnetic hazards are intense disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field caused by solar flares, which can lead to geomagnetic storms. These storms ignite large geomagnetic induction currents and disrupt the global upper atmospheric and ionospheric environment. As a result, human activities such as satellites, communication systems, power transmission systems, pipelines, and other infrastructure may be damaged.Throughout history, there have been notable geomagnetic haz-ards.One such event was the"Carrington Event"that occurred in late August to early September of 1859.This powerful geo-magnetic disaster was caused by a solar flare and resulted in significant interference with the global telegraph system of that era.In March 1989,the most powerful geomagnetic storm of the 20th Century occurred.Although the solar flare's intensity was not as strong as that of the Carrington Event, the damage caused by this storm was much more severe due to the wide-spread use of electricity systems at that time. The power sys-tem in Quebec Province,Canada was paralyzed for almost 8 h,causing significant economic losses.
