Abstract:This work aims to develop an internal–state–variable based unified viscoplastic constitutive model for TC11 titanium alloy, and embed it in finite element (FE) software to simulate its microstructure evolution during the high-temperature deformation process. Firstly, the flow and softening mechanisms of TC11 alloy with strip primary alpha phase ( α_p ) were investigated via isothermal compression tests at deformation temperatures ( T ) of 850 °C to 950 °C, strain rates ( ε̇ ) of 0.1 to 10.0 s −1 , and true strains ( ε ) of 0.223 to 0.916. Further, the effects of deformation parameters on the phase transformation and globularization of TC11 alloy were studied via the observation and quantitative analysis of microstructure. The strip α_p globularization fraction increases with increasing T and ε but decreases with increasing ε̇ . Additionally, the phase transformation from α_p to beta phase promotes the globularization of the strip α_p but reduces the dislocation density. Accordingly, a set of unified viscoplastic constitutive equations coupling multiple internal variables of TC11 alloy was established and modified. The results demonstrate that the calculated flow stress and globularization fraction are consistent with the experimental data. Finally, this constitutive model was embedded into the FE software Simufact to simulate the microstructure evolution of TC11 alloy during the uniaxial compression process. The simulated geometric dimensions and microstructure distribution characteristics are in good agreement with the experimental results. The beta phase volume fraction and the strip α_p globularization fraction increase with increasing the ε , and their maximum values are concentrated in the central area of the compressed specimen.
