Abstract:The aim of this study was to analyze the outcomes of vocal process granulomas treated with surgery and proton pump inhibitors and to specify related factors of recurrence. The medical records of patients with diagnosis of vocal process granuloma between 2000 and 2012 were reviewed. All patients were treated with surgery and proton pump inhibitors for at least 1 month. Forty-one patients were reviewed; mean follow-up time was 45 months. There was no recurrence among the patients who had a recent history of intubation. The recurrence rates of contact granuloma was 38.7 %, and significantly related to the frequency of surgery (P = 0.042), but was not significantly associated with the history of acid reflux (P = 0.676) and vocal abuse (P = 0.447), lesion size (P = 0.203) or surgical techniques (P = 0.331). Surgery combined with proton pump inhibitors was partially effective for the vocal process granulomas, especially with intubated patients. However, repeat surgery for recurrent contact granuloma should be preceded with caution due to high recurrence rates.
Analysis on the causative factors of laryngeal contact granuloma and the therapeutic effect of non-operative therapy on this kind of lesion

Abstract:Objective To explore the causative factors of laryngeal contact granuloma and the therapeutic effect of non-operative therapy on this kind of lesion based on a clinical trial. Method Included in this study were 49 cases with laryngeal contact granuloma treated at our Hospital from Mar., 2011 to Feb., 2015, with their all clinical data analyzed in a retrospective way to explore the possibly associated causative factors and the therapeutic effect of a non-operative therapy, mainly composed of herbal preparation Shuangsheng Granules orally taken. Result The related causative factors among these 49 cases included chronic pharyngitis (49, 100%), laryngopharyngeal reflux (27, 55%), inappropriate vocal use (23, 47%), alcohol consumption (20, 41%), smoking (18, 37%) as well as those with causative factor undefined(7, 14.7%), ranked in a declining order. Following the treatment of non-operative therapy, granuloma was completely disappeared in a majority of patients(36/49, 74%) 3 to 13 months following the non-operative therapy, with an averaged period of 8.6 months. The curative rates were 75% (20/27), 63% (14/23), 83% (15/18), and 79% (16/20) for cases with the causative factors being laryngopharyngeal reflux, inappropriate vocal use, smoking, and alcohol consumption respectively. However, there was no significantly statistical significance present in the therapeutic effects among these groups with different causative factors following the same non-operative treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion Multiple causative factors may attributed to the development of laryngeal contact granuloma, and the non-operative therapy, mainly composed of Shuangsheng granules as reported here, should be effective for the treatment of this kind of lesion.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the curative effect of acupuncture in treating chronic laryngitis.Methods: Forty cases of chronic laryngitis(13 patients with chronic simple laryngitis,5 with hypertropic laryngitis,15 with vocal cord nodules and 7 with vocal cord polyps) were treated by acupuncture in Renying,Lieque and Zhaohai of two sides.Laryngoscopic and Acoustic examinations were performed before and after treatment in all patients to evaluate the effects of the treatment.Results: Of the original 40 patients,8 cases were cured and had normal glottal images and acoustic characters,and 25 cases were improved.The efficacy rate was 82.5%.Conclusion: Acupuncture is suitable for chronic laryngitis,especially for simple laryngitis and vocal nodules.
Conservative Treatment versus Surgery for Laryngeal Contact Granuloma: A Prospective Study.

Abstract:AIMS:To confirm the efficacy of conservative treatment for laryngeal contact granuloma and identify factors influencing treatment outcome. METHODS:In this prospective study, patients with laryngeal contact granuloma were divided into a group receiving conservative treatment and a group undergoing surgery. Efficacy was assessed by analyzing the complete response after a 48-week follow-up. The association of treatment outcome with clinical factors was then evaluated. RESULTS:In total, 61 patients, 43 in the group receiving conservative treatment and 18 in the group undergoing surgery, were analyzed, and the complete response rate was 72.1% and 38.9%, respectively. Both univariate analysis and multivariate analysis revealed that treatment modality (p1 = 0.015, p2 = 0.043), voice abuse (p1 = 0.010, p2 = 0.010), and the size of the granuloma (p1 = 0.031, p2 = 0.020) were significantly associated with the complete response of laryngeal contact granuloma. Kaplan-Meier curves showed that alcohol consumption (p = 0.031), voice abuse (p < 0.001), and granuloma size (p = 0.025) were significantly related to the complete response of conservative treatment. CONCLUSIONS:This prospective study strengthens the argument for conservative treatment (instead of surgery) as the first choice for laryngeal contact granuloma. The results also suggest that voice abuse, alcohol consumption, and the size of the granuloma may predict treatment outcome.

Abstract:Objective To study the efficacy of intralesional steroid injection combined with acidsuppressive therapy for laryngeal contact granuloma.Methods Eighty eight patients with laryngeal contact granuloma diagnosed from March 2010 to October 2014 were reviewed.Twenty-one patients took intralesional steroid injection combined with acid-suppressive therapy as experimental group (4 patients in initial treatment group,17 patients in non-initial treatment group),other 67 patients only received acid-suppressive therapy as control group.The clinical data of these patients was analyzed.Results In experimental group,15 patients were cured (71.43％) and the average cure time were (3.80 ± 0.43) months,total injection time was 2-6 times and the median was 3 times.In control group,50 patients were cured (74.63％) and the average cure time were (5.31 ±0.38) months.No any systemic and local complications were found in all the patients during the follow-up period of 6-42 months.The cure rate had no significant difference between the experimental group and control group,but the cure time in the former group was shorter than that in the latter group (Z =-2.093,P =0.036).In the experimental group,the initial treatment patients had no significant difference in cure rate and cure time compared with non initial patients (x2 =1.112,P =0.544;Z =O.000,P =1.000).Conclusion Intralesional steroid injection combined with acid-suppressive therapy can be recommended as a safe and effective alternative therapy for laryngeal contact granuloma,especially the refractory granuloma.

Abstract:Laryngeal contact granuloma, also known as vocal cord granuloma, is the non-neoplastic inflammatory granulation tissue occurring in the vocal cord around. The cause is unclear, morbidity and cure rate is low, the recurrence rate is high, leading to a poor clinical treatment. But some symptoms of the sound disorder, pharyngeal foreign body sensation seriously affect the quality of life of patients, increase the psychological burden of patients. With the increasing awareness of the disease, the deepening of the research, there have been different treatment methods. This paper reviews the previous literatures, and summarizes LCG treatment for the status.
Effect of acid-suppressive drugs on laryngeal contact granuloma

Abstract:[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo assess the efficacy of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) on the treatment for laryngeal contact granuloma.METHODSSixty seven patients with laryngeal contact granuloma who were diagnosed in our department from March 2010 to October 2014 were enrolled in this study and all patients received PPI therapy, meanwhile the clinical data of the patients was analyzed. The follow-up period was at least half a year.RESULTS The 67 patients were treated well with the PPI. Fifty patients were cured, 11 patients were obvious improved, 4 patients were improved and 2 patients were invalid. The total efficacy rate was 97.01%. The average time of PPI used in small lesion group was shorter than that in large lesion group.CONCLUSIONPPI is effective for laryngeal contact granuloma, it can be recommended the first choice for the treatment of the disease.
Laryngeal contact granuloma after radiotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a case series

Abstract:Background: Laryngeal contact granuloma (LCG) is a benign hypertrophic lesion and phonatory injury after abnormal vocal behavior is regarded as its major etiology. Patients receiving radiation for non-laryngeal head and neck tumors are troubled by persistent voice impairment. The occurrence of LCG after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in our practice has implored us to re-exam their underlying etiology. We hypothesize that a proportion of LCG results from voice change caused by non-laryngeal head and neck cancer radiotherapy and firstly describe a distinct LCG population originated after radiotherapy for NPC with respect to the clinical profile, presentation, prognosis and response to treatment of patients. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the laryngoscopic examination and tumor study findings to elucidate the common clinical features of patients who presented with LCG after radiotherapy for NPC. All patients were regularly monitored with telescopic examination until lesions disappeared. Data on age, sex, clinical presentation, telescopic findings, management, latency time of lesion formation, remission time and clinical outcome were reviewed. Results: The medical review identified 27 cases of LCG secondary to radiotherapy for NPC. All lesions had been diagnosed during routine endoscopy following radiation. The interval between radiation onset and endoscopic diagnosis was 3.77 months (range, 0.67-11 months). 20 cases were resolved through simple observation, 4 cases were resolved with the administration of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), and 3 cases with a poor response to PPI therapy required subsequent surgical resection. The mean remission time in the observation and PPI groups was 4.42 months (range, 0.73-18.9 months) and 5.78 months (range, 2.17-14.63 months), respectively. All patients recovered completely and none experienced recurrence during a mean follow-up of 32.44 months (range, 5.6-71.67 months). Conclusions: Iatrogenic granulomas of vocal process are presenting after radiation for non-laryngeal head and neck cancers. In contrast with spontaneous granulomas, these granulomas can be cured at high remission rates and low recurrence trend without specific intervention. Thus, simple observation may be sufficient for radiation-induced LCG.
Clinical analysis on laryngeal granuloma following endotracheal intubation among adults

Abstract:Objective To discuss the cause,diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal granuloma occurred following endotracheal intubation among adults based on a clinical study.Methods A retrospective study was carried out among 8 adult cases with laryngeal granuloma following endotracheal intubation and treated in our Hospital from Jan.1996 to Dec.2006,with the special attention focused on exploring the association of size of their tubes and the duration of intubation with the incidence of the lesion to sum up clinical experience with the diagnosis and treatment for this condition.Results All these cases were intubated with the tubes in the size of No.7.0 to 7.5 and with the tubes maintained in situ for 2 to 23 hours,with an averaged duration of 7.4 hrs.The symptom of delayed hoarseness were complained by all of them following their tubes withdrawn and their granuloma was found frequently located at the vocal process of arytenoid cartilage,with the lesion being unilateral in 6 cases and being bilateral in 2 cases.These patients were all treated by a medical therapy at first,with 2 cases cured in this way and the other 6 cured as well following a supplemented surgical procedure.All the removed specimens were pathologically determined as inflammatory granuloma tissues.By the end of following up period lasted for more than one year,all these cases were observed with their granuloma disappeared without any signs suggesting the lesion reoccurring.Conclusions The diagnosis of laryngeal granuloma following endotracheal intubation can be more easily made based on a combined analysis on the medical history of endotracheal intubation and clinical manifestation seen after the tube withdrawn,especially the delayed hoarseness and signs detected with a laryngoscopy.Better therapeutic effect can be obtained following both kinds of therapies,either medical or surgical,on this lesion.
Clinical Effect of Postoperative Chemoradiotherapy in Resected Advanced Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Abstract:Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is one of the most prevalent types of head and neck malignancies. Advanced LSCC has failed to demonstrate a satisfactory prognosis, despite the progresses in the diagnosis and treatment, and the optimal treatment modality continues to be debated. To evaluate the clinical utility and survival outcomes of adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for patients with resected advanced LSCC, a retrospective analysis of 232 patients with LSCC who had undergone total laryngectomy and neck dissection between 2005 and 2010 was conducted. Of the 232 eligible patients, 167 patients (72%) received surgery alone, whereas 65 patients (28%) received surgery + adjuvant CRT. In the overall cohort, the 5- and 10-year overall survival (OS) rates were 55.2 and 48.3%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that the clinical stage was significantly associated with OS. However, the N classification was an independent indicator in disease-free survival and laryngeal cancer-specific survival. In those patients with stage IV disease, patients receiving adjuvant CRT exhibited a markedly improved survival benefit compared with patients receiving surgical treatment only, following propensity score matching of the data (P<0.05). The application of adjuvant CRT confers additional survival benefits in comparison with surgery-only treatment regimens for advanced LSCC. However, additional prospective studies are required.
Efficacy of Lianhuaqingwen Granules in the Management of Chronic Rhinosinusitis Without Nasal Polyps.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES:Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a complicated disease with clinical symptoms that are impacted by the absence or presence of nasal polyps (CRSsNP or CRSwNP). Understanding of the different treatments of CRS is very significant in selecting appropriate therapies and preventing exacerbation relevant to this chronic inflammation. This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of Chinese traditional medicine lianhuaqingwen granules on CRSsNP.MATERIALS AND METHODS:CRSsNP patients were enrolled and randomized into placebo or lianhuaqingwen (LHQW) granules treatment group (placebo or LHQW group). Their clinical symptoms were scored using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT)-22. Nitric oxide (NO) from nasal cavity and sinus and nasal resistance were also examined. Then, nasal biopsy samples and nasal lavage fluid (NLF) were obtained from these patients, and histologic characteristics of nasal mucosa and T cell subpopulations patterns in the NLF were evaluated. Finally, inflammatory mediators in the NLF were assessed in both groups.RESULTS:One hundred and forty patients with CRSsNP finished this one-month study. VAS and SNOT-22 scores and nasal resistance were all decreased distinctly after the treatment of LHQW, but not after placebo. However, the nasal NO concentration was increased in LHQW administration group in comparison with placebo group. There were significant differences in above parameters between these two treatments. Histologic changes in nasal mucosa were improved only in LHQW group. CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were all downregulated in the LHQW treatment group, but not in placebo group. Inflammatory mediators from the NLF were decreased in LHQW treatment group compared to placebo group. Furthermore, there were significant changes between these two groups in CD4+ and CD8+ T cell subpopulations and concentrations of inflammatory substances.CONCLUSION:These findings demonstrate that LHQW granules treatment may control the inflammation in nasal mucosa and result in the improvement of CRSsNP. This Chinese medicine might become a promising therapy in the management of this disease.
Analysis of therapeutic methods for treating vocal process granulomas.

Abstract:The combination of laryngeal microsurgery and local injections of botulinum toxin type A (BTA) can increase the cure rate of patients with vocal process granulomas (VPGs).To analyze the therapeutic effects of conservative treatments, microsurgical resection with suturing and microsurgery in combination with local injections of BTA for the treatment of VPGs.A retrospective analysis of 168 cases of VPG was performed. All of the patients initially received a conservative treatment. Some of the patients who did not respond to the conservative treatments were treated using microsurgical resection and microsuturing using an 8-0 absorbable filament. Other patients additionally received a four-point injection of BTA into the thyroarytenoid muscle and the arytenoid muscle on the operated side.The lesions of 41.3% (71/168) of the patients who were given the conservative treatments (including acid suppression, vocal rest, and voice therapy) disappeared, and the lesions of 10.7% (18/168) of the patients were reduced. The conservative treatments were unsuccessful for 47% (79/168) of the patients. The cure rate was 78.4% (29/37) for the patients who were treated by microscope resection using a CO2 laser and microsuturing of the surrounding mucosa. Of the eight patients who experienced a recurrence, five of them had lesions that disappeared after 3 months of conservative treatment, whereas the other three patients recovered after a second operation. The cure rate of the 42 patients who were treated using microsurgery combined with local injections of BTA was 95.2% (40/42), with only 2 cases of recurrence at 2 months post-treatment.
Effect and complications of different surgical methods in treatment of laryngeal carcinoma

Abstract:Objective·To compare the effects and complications of carbon dioxide laser laryngectomy and open partial laryngectomy in the treatment of laryngeal carcinoma.Methods·Clinical data of 101 patients with stage Ⅰ-Ⅲ laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma admitted to Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from January 2013 to January 2018 were selected and divided into open surgery group and minimally invasive group according to different surgical methods. The open surgery group received open partial laryngectomy (57 cases), and the minimally invasive group received carbon dioxide laser laryngectomy (44 cases). Follow-up visits were made by telephone and outpatient visits, and the operation time, postoperative laryngeal mucosa edema time, length of stay, 5-year survival rate, complication rate and recurrence rate of the two groups were compared in the different clinical stages (stage Ⅰ, stage Ⅱ, and stage Ⅲ) and tumor locations (glottic type and non-glottic type).Results·The operation time, postoperative laryngeal mucosa edema time and length of stay of the minimally invasive group were shorter than those of the open surgery group (P<0.05). Comparison of the 5-year survival rates of patients with the same clinical stage and glottic type between the two groups showed no statistically significant difference (both P>0.05); while comparison of the 5-year survival rates of patients with non-glottic type between the two groups (62.5% in the open surgery group vs 0 in the minimally invasive group) showed a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). In the minimally invasive group, there were 3 cases of complications, including 1 case of fever and 2 cases of lung infection; in the open surgery group, there were 14 cases of complications, including 5 cases of fever, 7 cases of lung infection and 2 cases of pharyngeal fistula. The complication rate of patients in the minimally invasive group (6.82%, 3/44) was lower than that in the open surgery group (24.60%, 14/57), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); the complication rate of patients with stage Ⅱ and glottic type in the minimally invasive group was significantly lower than that in the open surgery group (P<0.05). Comparing the recurrence rate of patients in the two groups (10.53% in the open surgery group vs 2.27% in the minimally invasive group), the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusion·Compared with open partial laryngectomy, carbon dioxide laser laryngectomy has faster postoperative recovery and lower complication rate in the treatment of early and middle laryngeal malignant tumors, so it is worth promoting.
Efficacy of low-temperature plasma ablation combined with low-dose cisplatin chemotherapy in laryngeal carcinoma patients and its influence on tumor markers

Abstract:Purpose: We aimed to explore the efficacy of low-temperature plasma ablation (LTPA) combined with low-dose cisplatin chemotherapy in laryngeal carcinoma patients and its influence on tumor markers. Methods: A total of 86 patients with laryngeal carcinoma were selected and divided into control group (n=43, treated with routine chemotherapy) and observation group (n=43, treated with LTPA combined with low-dose cisplatin chemotherapy) according to different treatment methods. The efficacy, immune function, adverse reactions and tumor marker levels were assessed in both groups, and the survival rate of patients was compared between the two groups. Results: The objective response rate and disease control rate in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (p<0.05). After treatment, the observation group had higher levels of cluster of differentiation (CD)3+, CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ than the control group, and a lower level of CD8+ than the control group (p<0.05). At 4, 8 and 16 weeks after treatment, the levels of serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 19.9 (CA19.9) and CA125 declined significantly in both groups compared with those before treatment, more obviously in the observation group (p<0.05). Moreover, the incidence rate of postoperative complications in the observation group was evidently lower than that in the control group (p<0.05). According to the 5-year follow-up, the 5-year survival rate in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: LTPA combined with low-dose cisplatin chemotherapy has better efficacy in laryngeal carcinoma patients, and it can improve the patient's immune function with less toxic and side effects, which is worthy of clinical popularization and application.

Abstract:Background and purpose:Surgical operation is the main method in the treatment of laryngeal carcinoma, but different patients have different impacts on the survival time and the quality of life with different type of operation. This study was to analyze the methods of surgical treatment and its long-term effect of laryngeal carcinoma, to increase survival rates, laryngeal function reservation and reconstruction and improve life quality.Methods:A total mumber of 424 patients of laryngeal carcinoma treated with surgical treatment during between Jan. 2002 and Dec. 2012 were researched by clinical follow-up and data analysis. Surgical method: CO2 laser-assisted laryngeal microsurgery for laryngeal tumors for 50 cases, frontal partial laryngectomy or modiifed thyroid cartilage window partial laryngectomy without tracheostomy for 42 cases, vertical frontolateral partial laryngectomy for 119 cases, horizontal partial laryngectomy and extended subtotal laryngectomy for 22cases, anastomosis of pharynx and trachea for 4 cases, supra cricoid partial laryngectomy for 129 cases (CHEP of them for 103 cases, CHP for 26 cases), total laryngectomy for 58 cases, cervical lymph node dissection at the same term for 121 cases.Results:Partial laryngectomy without tracheostomy for 92 cases (21.7%), total laryngectomy for 58 cases (13.7%); decannulation rate was 86.5%, vertical frontolateral partial laryngectomy of them for 93.2%, horizontal partial laryngectomy of them for 90.9%,supra cricoid partial laryngeal of them for 82.2%; laryngeal function reservation rate for 86.3%; all patients did outpatient review and telephone follow-up, 9 cases loss to follow-up, a total of tumor recurrence, cervical lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis were 41 cases, mostly occurred in 1 year after surgery; death for 57 cases, relapse of them for 8 cases, cervical metastasis for 13 cases, pulmonary metastasis for 5 cases, hepatic metastases for 2 cases, brain metastases for 1 case, esophagus metastases for 1 case, pulmonary infection for 6 cases, acute renal failure for 2 cases, unknown reason for 19 cases, according to Kaplan-Meier to count survival rate, 3-year and 5-year survival rate were 90.7% and 84.1%, relapse and metastasis were the main causes of death.Conclusion:Surgical treatment is the main therapy mode of laryngeal carcinoma. We choose individualized surgical methods for patients according to tumor staging, invasion site, age, occupation and education background of patient, health condition and so on. On the premise that tumor is completely cut off, we always advocate function surgery and minimally invasive surgery, and adopt comprehensive treatment at the same time, in order to increase survival rates, lesson suffering and improve life quality as far as possible.

Abstract:Surgical operation is the main method for the treatment of laryngeal carcinoma, but different patients have different impacts on the survival time and the quality of life with different type of operation. This study was to analyze the methods of surgical treatment and its long-term effect of laryngeal carcinoma, to increase survival rates, laryngeal function reservation and reconstruction and improve life quality. A total number of 424 patients of laryngeal carcinoma treated with surgical treatment between Jan. 2002 and Dec. 2012 were researched by clinical follow-up and data analysis. Abstract:Objective To explore high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) characteristics of arytenoid cartilage in patients with laryngeal contact granuloma (LCG). Setting Tertiary hospitals. Study Design Individual case-control study. Methods HRCT scans were obtained before treatment from 42 patients with LCG. Similar scans were obtained from 50 patients with glottic laryngeal cancer or vocal cord leukoplakia without vocal process involvement. Results Forty-two male patients with LCG were enrolled in the study. There were 41 patients with unilateral vocal cord lesions, and 1 patient had bilateral lesions. All 50 eligible patients in the laryngeal lesion group were men. There were 39 patients with unilateral lesions, and 11 had bilateral lesions. The rate of arytenoid cartilage sclerosis in the LCG group was 79.07% (34/43) on the lesion side and 7.32% (3/41) on the healthy side. In the laryngeal lesion group, the rate of arytenoid cartilage sclerosis was 13.11% (8/61) on the lesion side and 2.56% (1/39) on the healthy side. The rate of arytenoid cartilage sclerosis on the lesion side of patients with LCG was significantly higher than on the healthy side of patients with LCG and significantly higher than both the healthy and lesion sides of patients with laryngeal lesions ( P < .001). Conclusions Arytenoid cartilage sclerosis was observed on the lesion side in most patients with LCG, and the presence of sclerosis may support the diagnosis of LCG.

Abstract:Objective To analysis the effects of Qiyeling Granule combined with chemotherapy in treating patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods 150 stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ NSCLC patients were randomly divived into treated group and control group with 75 patients in each group.Treated group was treated by chemotherapy combined with Qiyeling Granule,while control group was treated with chemotherapy only.The effects of chemotherapy,life quality,survival time and changes of clinical symptoms and signs were observed before and after treatment.Results The effects of chemotherapy between 2 groups had no significant differences(P>0.05).The life quality in treatment group was higher than that in control group(P<0.01).The median survival time was 21.6 months in treatment group,which was higher than that in control group(13.7 months);the difference had statistic significance(P<0.05).The clinical symptoms and signs in treatment group were improved than those in control group(P <0.05).Conclusion Qiyeling Granule combined with chemotherapy has favorable effects in improving life quality,extending survival time and alleviating symptoms and signs on patients with advanced NSCLC,therefore it is ideal for long-term maintenance treatment.

Abstract:Objective To explore the operating procedares of coblation radiofrequency for surgical excision of vocal process granuloma and the therapeatic effect of it on the lesion.Methods One patient with vocal process granuloma was treated surgically by coblation radiofrequency under general anesthesia and her cliniced data was studied retrospectively.Results Complete resection was obtained in the patient with satisfied rehebiation. There was no recurrence in one year follow-up period.Conclusion The coblation radiofrequency approach is an ideal way for resection of vocal process granuloma, with less painful feeling and more preserved pharynx geal function.
[Comparison the therapeutic effects of the comprehensive treatment of surgery combined with radiotherapy and radiotherapy treatment only in laryngopharyngeal carcinoma cases]

Abstract:Objective: Comparing the difference between the effect of comprehensive treatment and that of radiotherapy only in laryngopharyngeal carcinoma cases. Method: Analyzing clinical data of 68 cases of laryngopharyngeal carcinoma treated in our department from June 2003 to December 2009. Among them, 40 cases were treated by comprehensive treatment of surgery combined with radiotherapy (group A), 28 cases by radiotherapy only (group B). Result: The three-year survival rate of group A and B were 75.6% (31/41) and 26.7% (4/15), respectively, and the five-year survival rate of the two groups were 56.1% (23/41) and 13.3% (2/15), respectively. Conclusion: For laryngopharyngeal carcinoma cases, the therapeutic effect of comprehensive treatment was much better than that of the radiotherapy only, not only could improve the survival rate, but also could make the life quality after treatment better.
