Abstract:The Yi ethnic group in Liangshan has a special culture and marriage customs, and is sensitive to words and topics such as "sex". In this context, girls of the Liangshan Yi ethnic group lack access to scientific sexual knowledge, resulting in a lack of sexual education. Through fieldwork and interviews, this paper understands the current situation and problems of sex education for girls in the family, school and society in the Liangshan Yi region, including: women in the Liangshan Yi region equate "sex education" with talking about "sex", such as birth, pregnancy, menstruation, and other taboos that cannot be mentioned in the region; sex education in schools is only about sex physiology, emphasizing how to maintain boundaries with boys and avoid sexually transmitted diseases; influenced by traditional family culture, Yi women do not have a correct attitude toward sexual assault and choose to tolerate it. Based on this, this paper synthesizes the understanding of sex education curriculum in China and other countries, and combines the unique sex culture of the Liangshan Yi region, by designing a sex education activity curriculum as a way out of the current situation of sex education for girls in the Liangshan Yi region.

Abstract:In this article, Xin Xiang investigates what dushu, or “schooling,” means for rural senior secondary school students in a high-poverty county in southwestern China. With the persistence of China's rural-urban education inequality and alarming reports about secondary school dropout rates, rural students' and their families' attitudes toward schooling have become a topic of academic as well as public debate. Drawing from repeated interviews with and observations of twenty-seven students conducted over a year, Xiang uses portraiture methodology to illustrate the different dimensions of meaning these rural youth attach to dushu: the means to a future of comfort and dignity, a family responsibility and collective investment, and a path toward individual freedom and actualization. This portrait also reveals the deep contradictions that define these students' experiences of dushu and how it often denies the hopes they attach to it and demands painful compromises.

Abstract:“Life is education, society is school” is the fundamental proposition of Xingzhi education. Experimental teaching, situational teaching, job acquisition, and tourism cognition are the implementation paths of Xingzhi education. These educational paths of “Knowing by doing” are not only effective ways of cognition, but also popular among young students. Faced with the reality that young people nowadays do not love reading but are willing to participate in social practice, China’s education reform should start by strengthening practical teaching, allowing students to acquire knowledge as much as possible through practical activities, rather than through reading [1]. This is not only an empirical tale of educational reform in developed countries in Europe and America, but also a beautiful tale of the westward trend during China’s modernization period in the 1930s.

Abstract:Learning from thinking, thinking from doubt, People's thinking begins with problems, and they think only when they have problems. As a hot spot of educational research nowadays, the core accomplishment of mathematics leads the new direction of educational reform, puts forward higher requirements for solving mathematical problems, and pays more attention to cultivating students to solve mathematical problems with the thinking of core literacy of mathematics. Abstract:The successful narrative of educational enterprise under the "input‐output" logic has over‐ridden teachers’ subjectivity in China .T eacher subjectivity is usually reflected in teachers’ decisions and actions ,and needs to be expressed by their practical know ledge .T his article claims that the educative meaning of teacher practical knowledge is to make teacher subjectivity emerge and to evoke potential es‐sence of teacher development .T eacher practical know ledge ,as representation of teacher subjectivity ,w ith the features of intentionality ,ethicality and transcendence ,can support teachers to create educative events in their daily w ork and reveal the educative meaning of teacher practical know ledge .Based on three teach‐ers’ cases ,w e argue that teacher practical know ledge and teacher subjectivity interact w ith each other as tw o sides of one coin ,w hich transform and develop reciprocally in teachers’ educative practice .

Abstract:Schemes are already under way to address the education gap between China's urban and rural areas (see Q. Wang Nature 510, 445; 2014). These are improving education opportunities for rural students and supplying them with the best teachers. For example, over the past ten years, the popular Go West programme has supplied more than 160,000 leading graduates to support the development of poor rural areas. The 17,500 positions provided this year cover several aspects, including teaching (see go.nature.com/lrhb6p; in Chinese). The Postgraduate Group of Volunteers to Support Education recruits teachers for rural regions from China's most prestigious universities, such as the Harbin Institute of Technology, and the non-governmental initiative Project Hope is helping to educate poor students. More people from underdeveloped regions are enrolling in the country's leading universities, thanks to 185,000 government places allocated to students from these areas this year. And some non-governmental organizations are contributing to educational institutions in deprived countryside areas; these include Our Free Sky, which provides teachers. These efforts to close the education gap will be complemented by the gathering momentum of rural migration to China's cities (see X. Bai et al. Nature 509, 158–160; 2014).

Abstract:Through the investigation of lighting conditions of 18 classrooms out of 9 middle or primary schools, the article reflects the existing problems of luminous environment of classrooms in the countryside. By comparison of the different characristics of luminous environment between the middle and primary schools as well as analysis on the improvements made on the lighting situations recent years, some constructive suggestions were also proposed according to requirements for luminous environment of classrooms and the local actual situations.

Abstract:While research on teacher emotions has grown in the past decades, little is known about rural teachers' and novice teachers' emotions. Based on ecological theory, this study selected two novice EFL teachers as the research objects. The goal was to explore their emotional experiences and the factors that influenced them over 3 years while teaching in rural primary schools. The research data was collected primarily through semi-structured interviews, teaching diaries, and narrative frameworks. Three-step coding and topic analysis were used to analyze the collected data. The data analysis revealed that the two novice teachers generated 62 emotions while interacting with various ecosystems. In Microsystems, teacher-student interaction has a strong influence on participants' emotions. Two participants experienced 19 positive emotions and 9 negative emotions during their interactions with the students. In addition, novice teachers may experience negative emotions if they are burdened with too many non-teaching tasks. In this study, two participants were able to effectively manage their negative emotions. The general emotional trend was positive, which motivated them to stay and continue teaching in the rural area. The results of this study have implications for the professional development of rural teachers and novice teachers.

Abstract:Science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) education is one of the effective ways to enhance students’ science literacy, and the ability to innovate. Cultivating innovative talents is important for a country to become the world’s science and technology powerhouse. Currently, the proportion of China’s scientifically literate population is still relatively low, with an imbalance between different demographics, age groups, and economic statuses. To spot more innovative talents, solving the imbalance of STEAM resources is necessary to improve the scientific literacy of students in rural and remote areas. Through field research in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, China, the challenges of the development of STEAM education in rural primary schools were discovered. The lack of teachers, funds, awareness, and guidance in rural primary schools are the main factors that significantly add to the educational inequality between urban and rural areas. This research tries to balance STEAM educational resources, narrow the educational inequality gap between urban and rural areas, and work out some feasible solutions to improve technology and innovation education. The "Rural-urban STEAM Education Teaching Platform" takes advantage of the urban STEAM educational resources to support elementary schools in remote areas.
