Abstract:The development of marine resources is intrinsically linked to the utilization of various marine equipment. Among these, marine pipelines and cables are crucial for the exploitation of deep-sea oil and gas resources. Mooring cables, marine towed cables, marine umbilical cables, submarine cables, and marine pipelines are typical slender and flexible marine components. These slender marine flexible members present various dynamic challenges during laying, installation, and in-position operation. Facing these challenges, scholars from China and around the globe have explored theoretical, numerical, and experimental solutions to these challenges. The conclusions need to be condensed to improve their practical and academic value for engineering applications. This paper summarizes the explorations and provides general design methods and concepts of marine pipelines. Additionally, this paper looks forward to the future development trend of marine pipelines in engineering applications as well as theoretical research. The aim is to provide a reference for the research of underwater pipelines and cables.

Abstract:Marine electronics technology is a special branch of electronic technique application, because of its unique problems in application environment,energy supply,long-distance communication and information security issues. Marine electronics technology can't be improved by drawing lessons from other electronics technologies. Marine electronics technology hasn't been paid enough attention in our country, and a big technology gay was generated between Chinese marine research and international advanced level. This fell behind situation of our country should be changed by treating the marine electronics technology as an independent discipline. In this paper, we expound the research significance, development direction and implementation strategy of marine electronics technology. For speeding up this technology's development and enhancing the ocean exploitation ability in our country,some proposals are put forward.

Abstract:With the escalation of global climate change and environmental pollution, the shipping industry urgently needs to undergo transformation. Electric ships, leveraging advantages such as zero emissions, low noise, and high energy efficiency, demonstrate significant potential and market prospects. This paper reviews the current research status of electric ships, discussing the latest advancements and challenges in battery technology and electric propulsion systems. While lithium-ion batteries remain mainstream, issues regarding range and charging speed persist, prompting exploration into new technologies such as solid-state batteries, fuel cells, and sodium-ion batteries. The Battery Management System (BMS) plays a crucial role in enhancing battery safety and reliability. Optimized design and intelligent control strategies have notably improved the efficiency and reliability of electric propulsion systems. The paper summarizes the technological advancements in electric ships, identifies current challenges, and outlines future development directions.

Abstract:Marine nuclear power equipment (MNPE) is crucial for the sustainable energy supply and carbon emission reduction during deep-sea resource exploitation. However, China has not achieved breakthroughs in the field of civil MNPE, although it has a good foundation in the nuclear and marine equipment industries. Based on the research of MNPE development practices in China and abroad, this study summarizes the advantages and technical sources of MNPE, analyzes future application scenarios and development trends, clarifies the strategic demand and problems of MNPE development in China, and proposes several development suggestions. Currently, MNPE is extending from military to civil use and from land to sea, and its main technical source is compact and integrated pressurized water reactors. In the near future, the equipment types of MNPE will focus on offshore floating nuclear power plants and nuclear-powered icebreakers. To promote the high-quality development of MNPE, it is necessary to clarify the major application scenarios of MNPE in China through top-level planning, formulate regulations, specifications, and supervisory systems through demonstration projects to match with practical development demands, and achieve breakthroughs regarding key technologies such as the construction of marine reactor systems and nuclear power platform assemblies.

Abstract:Over the past few decades, marine current energy utilization has transitioned from conceptual demonstrations to industrial-scale prototypes. This progression now approaches a crucial phase emphasizing the need for industrialization and commercialization. This paper provides an in-depth examination of the developmental status of large-scale marine current turbines and arrays, underscoring the promising prospects for marine current energy systems. Despite the significant advancements, the deployment of these systems has revealed several challenges, including blade design optimization, transmission system selection, and the establishment of appropriate test sites. Addressing these issues is essential for technological maturity and economic feasibility, which will foster the next wave of innovation in marine energy systems. Furthermore, the paper offers various perspectives for future applications.

Abstract:Marine transportation equipment is the basic support to build a strong marine country. To promote the marine, manufacturing, and transportation sectors, China needs to accelerate the technological innovation and high-quality industrial development of marine transportation equipment. This study aims at the future development of China’s marine transportation equipment technology and industry. First, the demands of marine transportation equipment were proposed for future markets, marine scientific research, marine resource development, and green intelligent technology. Then the technology and industry status of the world’s marine transportation equipment were analyzed from the aspects of higher education, scientific research, general design and assembly, information and communication equipment, as well as power and electromechanical equipment. Meanwhile, the world’s advanced technologies of marine transportation equipment were summarized. Next, the technological capabilities and industrial status of China’s marine transportation equipment were investigated, and the main problems were analyzed. Based on the above research, five key technical suggestions were put forward, such as polar navigation ship technology, ship intelligent manufacturing technology, and ship optimization and energy saving technology. And advices of setting up major projects were put forward, including intelligent ship engineering project, project of super eco-environment protection ships, and project for ship lifecycle operation and maintenance. At last, countermeasures and suggestions for the future development of China’s marine transportation equipment were proposed, in terms of top-level design, policy guidance, capital investment, collaborative innovation, talent construction, and international cooperation. The research results of this study can provide a reference for the future technical research of China’s shipbuilding authorities and relevant institutions.

Abstract:A 60 kW horizontal-axis marine current power system is designed, built and tested to provide potentially cost-competitive electrical power for residents in remote islands. This power system mainly consists of a three-bladed marine current turbine, a drive-train system, power electronics and a control console. The turbine blade parameters are reasonably calculated and optimized based on the blade element momentum theory. The hydrodynamic performances of this turbine are predicted over a wide range of operating conditions. An adequate drive-train system is carefully designed to make the marine power system work smoothly and quietly even under harsh marine current conditions. The control console is also developed to facilitate the condition monitoring and generator power and speed regulations for this power system by adequately controlling the onshore power electronics. This power system has been tested under real marine current conditions to thoroughly evaluate its dynamic characteristics and effectiveness. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Based on a general review of marine renewable energy in China, an assessment of the development status and amount of various marine renewable energy resources, including tidal energy, tidal current energy, wave energy, ocean thermal energy, and salinity gradient energy in China’s coastal seas, such as the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, and the South China Sea, is presented. We have found that these kinds of marine renewable energy resources will play an important role in meeting China’s future energy needs. Additionally, considering the uneven distribution of China’s marine renewable energy and the influences of its exploitation on the environment, we have suggested several sites with great potential for each kind of marine energy. Furthermore, perspectives on and challenges related with marine renewable energy in China are addressed.

Abstract:Electrification of Non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) is more and more urgent due to the demand of pollution reduction and energy conservation. In electrified NRMMs, electrohydraulic control system is still irreplaceable in many working conditions owing to its high power density and shock resistance performance. Meanwhile, electrohydraulic control systems are facing many opportunities to improve its energy efficiency by novel component and circuit design if the internal combustion engines (ICEs) and fossil fuel are replaced by electric motors (EMs) and energy storage devices. However, there are also a lot of challenges about controllability, compactness, lifetime and so on, due to the frequent variable load characteristic and wide speed regulation range of NRMMs. In this study, the technical opportunities and challenges of electrohydraulic control systems are reviewed and summarized in the electrification era of NRMM. Finally, the future directions are considered to improve the energy efficiency and electrification level of NRMMs.

Abstract:Marine renewable energy (MRE) has the advantages of being green, clean, and renewable, and plays an important role in reducing carbon emissions in the marine sector. MRE equipment and technologies are crucial for the efficient development and utilization of MRE. This study introduces the development status of MRE equipment and technologies in China and abroad, analyzes the international development trend of MRE equipment and technologies, and examines the problems existing in the development of MRE equipment and technologies in China. Specifically, the development levels of different types of MRE equipment and technologies are uneven, the comprehensive utilization of multiple energy resources is inadequate, and China still lags behind the advanced international level regarding the reliability, operation, and maintenance of the MRE equipment and technologies. To improve equipment reliability, reduce power generation costs, and ensure safety and environmental protection, we suggest that China should formulate a medium- and long-term plan that supports the sustainable and innovative development of MRE equipment and technologies, develop core technologies of MRE equipment, explore application scenarios for the integrated development of multiple energy resources, and attract more investment to accelerate industrial development.

Abstract:The issues of energy shortage and environmental pollution have accelerated the electrification of construction machinery (CM) industry globally. In China, the amount of electric construction machinery (ECM) has been growing across the industry. The sales of ECM are estimated to reach 600 000 vehicles by the end of 2025, while the total demand for battery power will reach 60 GWh. However, the development of ECM still faces critical challenges including reliable power supply and energy distribution among various components. In this review, we primarily focus on important technological breakthroughs and the difficulties faced by the CM industry in China. An overview of ECM including classification and characteristics is given at the beginning. Next, the selection of key components such as the electric motor and the energy storage units, and the control strategy in the pure electric drive system are discussed. The characteristics of the hybrid electric drive system such as structure design and power matching are analyzed in detail. The battery management system (BMS) is critical to ensure appropriate battery health for reliable power supply. Here, we extensively review technical developments in various BMSs. In addition, we roughly estimate the national total of CM emissions and the potential environmental benefits of employing ECMs in China. Finally, we set out future research directions and industrial development of ECM.

Abstract:Owing to its high resource predictability and power density, tidal current energy has garnered extensive attention worldwide, from both academia and industry, in the past decade. Currently, China is also accelerating the development of tidal current energy because of the abundant tidal current resources along the country's highly populated southeast coasts. The objective of this development is to meet the increasing power demands for coastal cities, islands, and various maritime applications. The tidal current energy conversion systems in China have undergone rapid technological advancements in the past ten years, particularly after the deployment of several large-sized tidal current turbines. Although several review papers have covered the evolution of tidal current energy converters (TCECs) in China since the 1980s, a comprehensive update of the past decade has not been systematically reported, which might be of significant interest to researchers, developers, and investors worldwide. In this paper, we present the state-of-the-art TCEC technological developments in China in terms of scale, efficiency, reliability, and other innovations. Their technology readiness level and problems are also discussed. It is found that TCEC development in China has been diverging toward two different directions: large-sized turbines for grid connection and small-scale turbines for diverse applications in marine environments. Finally, we present the current challenges and future trends of TCEC advancement in China.
