Abstract:We consider a shrinking flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with speed fu^{alpha}{sigma}_n^{beta}, where u is the support function of the hypersurface, alpha, beta are two constants, and beta>0, sigma_n is the n-th symmetric polynomial of the principle curvature radii of the hypersurface. We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of an elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta belong to a suitable range, provided the initial hypersuface is origin-symmetric and f is a smooth positive even function on S^n. For the case alpha>= 1+n*beta, beta>0, we prove that the flow converges smoothly after normalisation to a unique smooth solution of an elliptic equation without any constraint on the initial hypersuface and smooth positive function f. When beta=1, our argument provides a uniform proof to the existence of the solutions to the equation of L_p Minkowski problem for p belongs to (-n-1,+infty).

Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:Let M n be a smooth, compact manifold without boundary, and F 0: M n → R n+1 a smooth immersion which is convex. The one-parameter families F(·, t): M n × [0, T) → R n+1 of hypersurfaces M t n = F(·, t)(M n ) satisfy an initial value problem dt/dF(·, t) = −H k (·, t)ν(·, t), F(·, 0) = F 0(·), where H is the mean curvature and ν(·, t) is the outer unit normal at F(·, t), such that −H ν = $\overrightarrow H $ is the mean curvature vector, and k > 0 is a constant. This problem is called H k -flow. Such flow will develop singularities after finite time. According to the blow-up rate of the square norm of the second fundamental forms, the authors analyze the structure of the rescaled limit by classifying the singularities as two types, i.e., Type I and Type II. It is proved that for Type I singularity, the limiting hypersurface satisfies an elliptic equation; for Type II singularity, the limiting hypersurface must be a translating soliton.

Abstract:We study m-dimensional SDE Xt=x0+∑i=1∞∫0tσi(Xs)dWsi+∫0tb(Xs)ds, where {Wi}i⩾1 is an infinite sequence of independent standard d-dimensional Brownian motions. The existence and pathwise uniqueness of strong solutions to the SDE was established recently in [Z. Liang, Stochastic differential equations driven by countably many Brownian motions with non-Lipschitzian coefficients, Preprint, 2004]. We will show that the unique strong solution produces a stochastic flow of homeomorphisms if the modulus of continuity of coefficients is less than |x−y|(log1|x−y|)ϑ, ϑ∈[0,1) with (−1)ϑ=1, and the coefficients are compactly supported.
The Ricci flow and isoperimetric inequalities on surfaces

Abstract:We revisit the connection between the Ricci flow and isoperimetric inequalities on surfaces which are diffeomorphic to the $2$-sphere. We prove that the Cheeger isoperimetric constant is non-decreasing under Ricci flow on topological $2$-spheres. A topological $2$-sphere with non-trivial curvature is exhibited which is a counterexample to the hypothesis that the Cheeger constant is a strictly increasing function of the Ricci flow.

Abstract:We construct an analogue of Dyson Brownian motion in the Siegel half-space H that we term Siegel Brownian motion. Given \beta in (0,\infty], a stochastic flow for Z_t in H is introduced so that the law of the eigenvalues \lambda_t of the cross ratio matrix R(Z_t,iI_n) is determined by the Ito differential equation corresponds to stochastic gradient ascent of a function S. S turns out to be the log volume of isospectral orbit in H and can be understood as a Boltzmann entropy. In the limit \beta=\infty, the group orbits evolve by motion by minus a half times mean curvature.

Abstract:In this article, we consider the Schrodinger flow of maps from two dimensional hyperbolic space H-2 to sphere S-2. First, we prove the local existence and uniqueness of Schrodinger flow for initial data u(0) is an element of H-3 using an approximation scheme and parallel transport introduced by McGahagan [32]. Second, using the Coulomb gauge, we reduce the study of the equivariant Schrodinger flow to that of a system of coupled Schrodinger equations with potentials. Then we prove the global existence of equivariant Schrodinger flow for small initial data u(0) is an element of H-1 by Strichartz estimates and perturbation method.

Abstract:In this paper, by using new auxiliary functions, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, star-shaped hypersurfaces in Rn+1 with speed rαβσk1β, where σk is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, α, β are positive constants and r is the distance from points on the hypersurface to the origin. We obtain convergence results under some assumptions of k, α, β. When k≥2, 0<β≤1, α≥β+k, we prove that the k-convex solution to the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a sphere after normalization, in particular, we generalize Li-Sheng-Wang's result from uniformly convex to k-convex. When k≥2, β=k, α≥2k, we prove that the k-convex solution to the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a sphere after normalization, in particular, we generalize Ling Xiao's result from k=2 to k≥2.

Abstract:Let $\DD$ be a simply connected, smooth enough domain of $\bbR^2$. For $L>0$ consider the continuous time, zero-temperature heat bath dynamics for the nearest-neighbor Ising model on $\mathbb Z^2$ with initial condition such that $\sigma_x=-1$ if $x\in L\DD$ and $\sigma_x=+1$ otherwise. It is conjectured \cite{cf:Spohn} that, in the diffusive limit where space is rescaled by $L$, time by $L^2$ and $L\to\infty$, the boundary of the droplet of "$-$" spins follows a \emph{deterministic} anisotropic curve-shortening flow, where the normal velocity at a point of its boundary is given by the local curvature times an explicit function of the local slope. The behavior should be similar at finite temperature $T<T_c$, with a different temperature-dependent anisotropy function. We prove this conjecture (at zero temperature) when $\DD$ is convex. Existence and regularity of the solution of the deterministic curve-shortening flow is not obvious \textit{a priori} and is part of our result. To our knowledge, this is the first proof of mean curvature-type droplet shrinking for a model with genuine microscopic dynamics.

Abstract:In this paper we characterized isotropic random tangential vector fields on d -spheres for d≥1 by the cross-covariance, and derived their Karhunen–Loève expansion. The tangential vector field can be decomposed into a curl-free part and a divergence-free part by the Helmholtz–Hodge decomposition. We proved that the two parts can be correlated on a 2-sphere, while they must be uncorrelated on a d -sphere for d≥3 . On a 3-sphere, the divergence-free part can be further decomposed into two isotropic flows.

Abstract:More recently, the local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem of the Schrödinger flow of maps from R2 to H2, the hyperbolic 2-space, was proved in [28]. In this paper, we display a blow-up result of solutions to such a Schrödinger flow. This shows a widely believed assertion that solutions to Schrödinger flows may blow up in finite time in general when the dimensions of starting manifolds are greater than 2 ([14]).

Abstract:Suppose that a closed $1$-rectifiable set $\Gamma_0\subset \mathbb R^2$ of finite $1$-dimensional Hausdorff measure and a vector field $u$ in a dimensionally critical Sobolev space are given. It is proved that, starting from $\Gamma_0$, there exists a non-trivial flow of curves with the velocity given by the sum of the curvature and the given vector field $u$. The motion law is satisfied in the sense of Brakke and the flow exists through singularities.

Abstract:We consider closed immersed hypersurfaces evolving by surface diffusion flow, and perform an analysis based on local and global integral estimates. First we show that a properly immersed stationary (\Delta H \equiv 0) hypersurface in \R^3 or \R^4 with restricted growth of the curvature at infinity and small total tracefree curvature must be an embedded union of umbilic hypersurfaces. Then we prove for surfaces that if the L^2 norm of the tracefree curvature is globally initially small it is monotonic nonincreasing along the flow. We also derive pointwise estimates for all derivatives of the curvature assuming that its L^2 norm is locally small. Using these results we show that if a singularity develops the curvature must concentrate in a definite manner, and prove that a blowup under suitable conditions converges to a nonumbilic embedded stationary surface. We obtain our main result as a consequence: the surface diffusion flow of a surface initially close to a sphere in L^2 is a family of embeddings, exists for all time, and exponentially converges to a round sphere.
