A conventional seismic processing workflow, such as traveltime tomography, migration, and metrics computation, has been applied in the interpretation to identify the time-lapse geophysical property changes in the reservoir introduced by the steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) process. These changes are due to temperature, saturation, and pressure variations. This work included a study of the feasibility to use the frequency-domain full-waveform inversion (FWI) method to interpret the time-lapse VSP data. The geological structure of the field under study is relatively simple and the shale content of the formation is low. we chose a two-dimensional (2D) profile on which to employ the frequency-domain FWI algorithm. In the inversion, we inverted both P-wave velocity and mass density. The initial P-wave velocity model was developed from traveltime tomography. The initial mass density model was derived from this P-wave velocity model using Gardner's relation. The inversion results are validated with well logs and computed check shot data. The anomalies caused by the steam injection are identified by observing the difference in P-wave velocity inverted from baseline and repeat seismic data.
