Abstract:For a graph G =( V,E), the modified Schultz index of G is defined as S ∗ (G )= {u,v}⊂V (G) (dG(u) · dG(v))dG(u,v) where dG(u) (or d(u)) is the degree of the vertex u of G, and dG(u,v) is the distance between u and v. Lower bounds on modified Schultz index in trees in terms of the order and diameter are determined.

Abstract:For a graph G = (V, E), the modified Schultz index of G is defined as S*(G) = Sigma {u,v} subset of V(G) (d(G)(u).d(G)(v))d(G)(u, v) where d(G)(u) (or d(u)) is the degree of the vertex u in C, and dG (u, v) is the distance between u and v. The first Zagreb index M-1 is equal to the sum of the squares of the degrees of the vertices, and the second Zagreb index M-2 is equal to the sum of the products of the degrees of pairs of adjacent vertices. In this paper, we present a unified approach to investigate the modified Schultz index and Zagreb indices of tricyclic graphs. The tricyclic graph with n vertices having minimum modified Schultz index and maximum Zagreb indices are determined.

Abstract:The second and third geometric-arithmetic indices GA(2)(G) and GA(3)(G) of a graph G are defined, respectively, as Sigma(uv is an element of E(G)) root n(u)(e,G)n(v)(e,G)/1/2[n(u)(e,G)+n(v)(e,G)] and Sigma(uv is an element of E(G)) root m(u)(e,G)m(v)(e,G)/1/2[m(u)(e,G)+m(v)(e,G)] , where e = uv is one edge in G, n(u)(e, G) denotes the number of vertices in G lying closer to u than to v and m(u)(e,G) denotes the number of edges in G lying closer to u than to v. The Szeged and edge Szeged indices are defined, respectively, as Sz(G) = Sigma(uv is an element of E(G)) n(u)(e, G) . n(v) (e, G) and Sz(e)(G) = Sigma(uv is an element of E(G)) m(u)(e, G) . m(v)(e, G). In this paper, we provide a unified approach to characterize the tree with the minimum and maximum GA(2), GA(3), Sz and Sz(e) indices among the set of trees with given order and pendent vertices, respectively. As applications, we deduce a result of [2] concerning tree with the maximum GA(2) index and a result of [3] concerning tree with the maximum GA(3) index.

Abstract:Boesch’s theorem says that “Suppose that a connected graph G has two non-adjacent 2-degree vertices u1 and u2. Then t(G)≤t(G/{u1,u2}), where t(G) is the number of spanning trees of G.” In this paper, we generalize this theorem as follows: “Suppose that G is a connected graph of order at least 3, and that u1 and u2 are two vertices of degree m and n, respectively, in G. Then t(G)≤mn−m02m+n−2m0t(G/{u1,u2}), where m0(≥0) is the number of multiple edges between u1 and u2.”

Abstract:Let G be a connected graph with vertex set V(G) and edge set E(G). For a subset S of V(G), the Steiner distance d(S) of S is the minimum size of a connected subgraph whose vertex set contains S. For an integer k with 2≤k≤n−1, the Steiner k-Wiener index SWk(G) is ∑S⊆V(G),|S|=kd(S). In this paper, we introduce some transformations for trees that do not increase their Steiner k-Wiener index for 2≤k≤n−1. Using these transformations, we get a sharp lower bound on Steiner k-Wiener index for trees with given diameter, and obtain the corresponding extremal graph as well.

Abstract:The Wiener index W(G) of a connected graph G, introduced by Wiener in 1947, is defined as W(G) = Σ u,v∈V (G) d G (u, v) where d G (u, v) is the distance (length a shortest path) between the vertices u and v in G. For S ⊆ V (G), the Steiner distance d(S) of the vertices of S, introduced by Chartrand et al. in 1989, is the minimum size of a connected subgraph of G whose vertex set contains S. The k-th Steiner Wiener index SWk(G) of G is defined as SW k (G) = Σ S⊆V (G),|S|=k d(S). We investigate the following problem: For any positive integer n, one can find a tree T with Steiner Wiener index SW k (T)(2 ≤ k ≤ n) or linear array Steiner Wiener index a SW k1 (T)+bSW k2 (T) (a, b is a integer) such that coverage n. In this paper, we give some solutions to this problem.

Abstract:The Wiener index W(G) of a connected graph G, introduced by Wiener in 1947, is defined as W(G) = ∑u,v∈V(G) d(u, v) where dG(u, v) is the distance between vertices u and v of G. The Steiner distance in a graph, introduced by Chartrand et al. in 1989, is a natural generalization of the concept of classical graph distance. For a connected graph G of order at least 2 and S ⊆ V (G), the Steiner distance d(S) of the vertices of S is the minimum size of a connected subgraph whose vertex set is S. We now introduce the concept of the Steiner Wiener index of a graph. The Steiner k-Wiener index SWk(G) of G is defined by . Expressions for SWk for some special graphs are obtained. We also give sharp upper and lower bounds of SWk of a connected graph, and establish some of its properties in the case of trees. An application in chemistry of the Steiner Wiener index is reported in our another paper.

Abstract:Let G be a connected graph. The Kirchhoff index (or total effective resistance, effective graph resistance) of G is defined as the sum of resistance distances between all pairs of vertices. Let S(G) be the subdivision graph of G. In this note, a formula and bounds for the Kirchhoff index of S(G) are obtained. It turns out that the Kirchhoff index of S (G) could be expressed in terms of the Kirchhoff index, the multiplicative degree-Kirchhoff index, the additive degree-Kirchhoff index, the number of vertices, and the number of edges of G. Our result generalizes the previous result on the Kirchhoff index of subdivisions of regular graphs obtained by Gao et al. (2012). (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A topological index of a graph $G$ is a real number which is preserved under isomorphism. Extensive studies on certain polynomials related to these topological indices have also been done recently. In a similar way, chromatic versions of certain topological indices and the related polynomials have also been discussed in the recent literature. In this paper, the chromatic version of the Schultz polynomial is introduced and determined this polynomial for certain fundamental graph classes.
