Abstract:With the preparing of SO2+(X̃ 2A1(000)) by [3+1] multiphoton ionization of the neutral SO2 molecules at 380.85 nm, the photodissociation process and the symmetry of the excited states D̃ of SO2+ molecular ions has been investigated by measuring the photofragment SO+ excitation (PHOFEX) spectrum in ultraviolet (282–332 nm) and in visible (562–664 nm) wavelength ranges, respectively. The D̃(v100), D̃(0v20)←X̃ 2A1(000) transitions of SO2+ were assigned in the PHOFEX spectrum in the UV range. By comparing the discernible PHOFEX spectrum in UV range with the continuous PHOFEX spectrum in visible range, it is deduced that (i) around SO2+(D̃) there exists a repulsive state α 2A2 converging to the dissociation limit of SO+(X 2Π)+O(3Pg), (ii) the coupling between SO2+(D̃) and SO2+(α 2A2) leads to the dissociation to SO+(X 2Π)+O(3Pg), (iii) the symmetry of D̃ state is D̃ 2B1.
Multiple-scattering and DV-Xαtheoretical Determination of the Local Structure of SO2/Pd(111)

Abstract:We have calculated the sulfur Is near-edge x-ray absorption fine-structure (NEXAFS) spectra Of SO2 adsorbed on Pd(111) in terms of the multiple-scattering cluster and self-consistent field DV-X, method. The physical origin of the resonances in the NEXAFS spectra has been unveiled. By the multiple-scattering calculation we have for the first time identified two weak features appearing in S K-shell NEXAFS Of SO2/Pd(111), which locate near the pi* and sigma* resonances respectively. Meanwhile, a self-consistent DV-X-alpha cluster calculation has been performed to confirm the above conclusion. Our calculation results for the local structure Of SO2/Pd(111) are broadly in agreement with those of Fourier-transform, analysis of the surface-extended x-ray absorption fine structure.

Abstract:The nonadiabatic interactions between the C̃ state and neighboring electronic states of SO2 have attracted much attention; however, the predissociation mechanisms are not yet completely understood. In this work, the predissociation dynamics of SO2 via its C̃ state have been investigated at λ = 193–201 nm by using the time-sliced velocity map ion imaging technique. The translational energy distributions and the branching ratios of the O(3PJ=2,1,0) spin–orbit products at six photolysis wavelengths have been acquired. The SO(3Σ−) product population gradually decreases in v = 0 and increases in v = 2 as the photolysis wavelength decreases. The branching ratios of O(3P J=2,1,0) products are almost similar at most wavelengths, except at 194.8 nm. Our data suggest that the predissociation between 193 and 201 nm is via an avoided crossing between the C̃ state and the repulsive triplet 23A′ state. The state-to-state dynamical pictures shown in this work provide a rigorous test of the potential energy surfaces (PESs) of the SO2 and the nonadiabatic couplings between these PESs.

Abstract:The ion-pair dissociation dynamics of SO2 -> SO+ (X-2 Pi,nu) + O- (2P(J)) in the excitation energy range 14.87-15.15 eV has been studied using the tunable XUV laser and velocity map imaging method. The O- yield spectrum, the translational energy distributions, and the angular distributions of the photofragments have been measured. The electronic structures and selected cuts of potential energy surfaces for the ion-pair states have been calculated by employing the quantum chemistry calculation method at the CASSCF/6-311++g** level. The equilibrium structures of the six ion-pair states all have linear geometries. An orbital correlation diagram was drawn to illustrate the ion-pair dissociation mechanism. Combining the experimental and theoretical results, it is concluded that the ion-pair dissociation takes place mainly via the predissociation of Rydberg states (1)A(1) [((CB1)-B-2)4db(1)] and (1)A(1) [(D(2)A(1))4sa(1)]. The experimental results confirm the previous theoretical calculation results about the symmetry assignments for the energy sequence of SO2+ as C(B-2(1)) < D((2)A(1)),

Abstract:The time-resolved total emission of SO2 (B1B1→X1A1) at 354.9 nm were monitored following the direct excitation by a 266 nm laser pulse. A three-level model was proposed to deal with SO2 (X1A1, A1A2, B1B1) system. From a kinetic treatment of these measurements, the coupling coefficient, ξ, and the relaxation time, τ, relating to the high vibronic levels of A1A2 and B1B1 states were first obtained. It is found that ξ and τ values keep basically constant, reflecting the characteristics of the studied system. In addition, the quenching rate constants of SO2 (A1A2, B1B1) by some alkane and chloromethane molecules were measured at room temperature. The formation cross sections of complexes of SO2 (A1A2, B1B1) and quenchers were calculated by means of a collision complex model. It is shown that the dependence of the formation cross section of complex on the number of C(SINGLEBOND)H or C(SINGLEBOND)Cl bonds is generally in agreement with that of the measured quenching cross section. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Abstract:The dispersed fluorescence spectrum of SO2((BB1)-B-1-->X(1)A(1), 320-380 nm) excited by 266 nm laser into the first allowed absorption region (240-340 nm) where the high vibrational levels of A(1)A(2) and (BB1)-B-1 states are strongly coupled, and its preliminary assignment are presented. A three-level model is proposed to deal with the SO2-(X(1)A(1), A(1)A(2), (BB1)-B-1) system, and the coupling coefficient, xi, and the relaxation time, tau, at the high vibrational levels of A(1)A(2), and (BB1)-B-1 states have been obtained. The results show that xi and tau keep basically constant under our experimental conditions, which reflects the characteristics of the system.

Abstract:The photooxidation of CS 2 was studied with the radiation at 313nm with different conditions,including pure oxygen?dry air and wet air matrixes.With the irradiation of 313nm,carbon disulfide can get to electronic excitation state that has the potence to react with oxygen to produce suifur dioxide,carbonyl sulfide and carbon monoxide.By comparing the apparent rate constants of three different systems,it was conclude that water vapor has a significant effect on the photooxidation of CS 2.The mechanism of the reaction has been studied also based on these results.

Abstract:Photochemistry plays a significant role in shaping the chemical reaction network in the solar nebula and interstellar clouds. However, even in a simple triatomic molecule photodissociation, determination of all fragmentation processes is yet to be achieved. In this work, we present a comprehensive study of the photochemistry of H2S, derived from cutting-edge translational spectroscopy measurements of the H, S(1D) and S(1S) atom products formed by photolysis at wavelengths across the range 155-120 nm. The results provide detailed insights into the energy disposal in the SH(X), SH(A) and H2 co-fragments, and the atomisation routes leading to two H atoms along with S(3P) and S(1D) atoms. Theoretical calculations allow the dynamics of all fragmentation processes, especially the bimodal internal energy distributions in the diatomic products, to be rationalised in terms of non-adiabatic transitions between potential energy surfaces of both 1A' and 1A'' symmetry. The comprehensive picture of the wavelength-dependent (or vibronic state-dependent) photofragmentation behaviour of H2S will serve as a text-book example illustrating the importance of non-Born-Oppenheimer effects in molecular photochemistry, and the findings should be incorporated in future astrochemical modelling.

Abstract:The structure of Rydberg states can be described by a compact set of physical parameters in Quantum Defect Theory. We here present our theoretical calculations of the physical parameters for the triatomic molecule SO2. As an illustrative example, we also compare our theoretical results with the experimental spectra below the sulfer LII, III edges in SO2. They are in good agreement.

Abstract:Experimental and theoretical resonance emission spectra are obtained for a number of vibrational states of SO2((C) over tilde(1)B(2)). The experimental emission spectra are dominated by (n(1) nu(1), n(2) nu(2), 0) bands, but some weak activity in the anti-symmetric stretch (nu(3)) is observed. The calculated emission spectra based on an empirical near-equilibrium potential energy surface agree reasonably well with experiment for two lowest states investigated here, but fail to reproduce higher ones. Quantum State-Dependent Fragmentation Dynamics of D2S Molecules Following Excitation at Wavelengths ∼ 129.1 and ∼ 139.1 nm

Abstract:The first high-resolution translational spectroscopy studies of D atom photoproducts following excitation to the Rydberg states of D2S are reported. Excitation at wavelengths λ ∼ 139.1 nm reveals an unusual 'inverse' isotope effect; the 1B1(3da1←2b1) Rydberg state of D2S predissociates much faster than its counterpart in H2S. This is attributed to accidental near resonance with a vibrationally excited level of a lower-lying, more heavily predissociated Rydberg state of D2S that boosts the probability of nonadiabatic coupling to the dissociation continuum with 1A″ symmetry. Excitation at λ ∼ 129.1 nm populates the 1B1(4da1←2b1) Rydberg state, which predissociates more slowly and allows the study of ways in which the branching into different quantum states of the SD products varies with the choice of parent excited (JKaKc) level. All excited parent levels yield both ground (X) and electronically excited (A) state SD fragments. The former are distributed over a wide range of rovibrational (v″, N″) levels, while the population of levels with low v' and high N' is favored in the latter. These trends reflect the topographies of the dissociative 1A″ (1A') potential energy surfaces that correlate with the respective dissociation limits. Rotational motion about the b-inertial axis in the excited state molecule increases the relative yield of SD(A) products, consistent with dissociation by rotationally (Coriolis-) induced coupling from the photoexcited Rydberg level to the 1A' continuum. Molecules excited to the rotationless (JKaKc = 000) level also yield some SD(A) products, however, confirming the operation of a rival fragmentation pathway wherein photoexcited molecules decay by initial vibronic coupling to the 1A″ continuum, with subsequent nonadiabatic coupling between the 1A″ and 1A' continua enabling access to the D + SD(A) limit.

Abstract:In our last study [J. Phys. B At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 54, 125,102 (2021).], we reported the ab initio calculation of the full-dimensional potential energy surfaces of water molecule including 9 A' and 9 A" states in Cs symmetry. In this study, we performed additional non-adiabatic semi-classical studies based on the potential energy surfaces. Our simulation successfully repeated the near picosecond lifetime of the F∼1A′ state measured by time resolved photo-electron spectra experiment [Chinese J. Chem. Phys. 32 , 53 (2019)]. We also determined the dissociation branching ratio including H + OH(X, A), H + H + O and H 2 +O channels. In addition, the reaction path corresponding to H 2 +O ( 1 S) channel is clearly marked out, which is found in recent free-electron laser experiment [Nat. Commun. 12 , 6,303 (2021)].

Abstract:The authors report a detailed quantum mechanical study of the state-to-state dynamics of the O+OH(v(i)=0, j(i)=0)-->H+O(2)(v(f),j(f)) reaction on an accurate HO(2)(X(2)A") potential energy surface. The scattering dynamics was treated using a reactant coordinate based Chebyshev real wavepacket method with full Coriolis coupling. A total of 84 partial waves were calculated in order to achieve convergence up to the collision energy of 0.17 eV. The differential cross section is near forward-backward symmetric, consistent with the complex-forming mechanism. The O(2) product was found to have a monotonically decaying vibrational distribution and highly excited and inverted rotational distributions, also consistent with the formation of the HO(2) intermediate. These quantum mechanical results were compared with those obtained in earlier quasiclassical trajectory and statistical studies and it is shown that the statistical theory gives a reasonably good description of the product state distributions despite its inability to predict the total reaction cross section.

Abstract:In this paper, accurate determinations of electronic structures and spectroscopic features for the Λ−S and Ω low-lying electronic states of SbO are investigated by highly correlated ab initio calculations. Energies of twenty-four Λ−S states corresponding to the first two dissociation asymptotes, as well as the lowest twelve Ω states, are obtained and then used to construct their potential energy curves. Spectroscopic constants and vibrational states for all bound states are determined and are consistent with experimental data. The spin-orbit coupling effect has introduced a minor impact on the electronic states of SbO. Additional calculations for the low-lying electronic states of PO, AsO and BiO are also carried out to further verify the computational accuracy of SbO. Our derived results for these VA group oxides are in reasonable agreement with available experimental data. In addition, emission spectra of the excited Ω states to the ground one are simulated. The predictive results are anticipated to serve as guidelines for further research such as assisting laboratorial detections and analyzing the observed spectrum of SbO.Graphical abstractDownload : Download high-res image (161KB)Download : Download full-size image

Abstract:Using time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence(LIF) spectroscopy, the fluorescence quantum beat decay was observed in (C) over tilde(B-1(2)) <-- (X) over tilde((1)A(1)) transition of SO2 molecule. The experimental results show that only the v(3) mode and its combination band v(1) + v(2) + v(3) excitation exist the beat decay. Analyzing the result, we attribute the quantum beat states to the coupling of the v(3) vibration mode of (C) over tilde state with the high vibrational levels of the electronic ground state.

Abstract:State-to-state photodissociation dynamics of D2O in the B band has been investigated using the recently developed diabatic potential energy surfaces. Quantum dynamical calculations including the electronic X and B states were carried out using a Chebyshev real wave packet method. The nonadiabatic channel via the DOD conical intersection is facile, direct, and fast, which produces rotationally hot and vibrationally cold OD(X) product. On the other hand, the adiabatic channel on the excited state, leading to the OD(Ã) product, is dominated by long-lived resonances, which depend sensitively on the potential energy surface. The calculated absorption spectra, product state distributions, branching ratios, and angular distributions are in reasonably good agreement with the latest experimental results.

Abstract:The state-to-state photodissociation dynamics for the vibrationally excited H2O in its second absorption band has been investigated on the recent three-dimensional potential energy surfaces based on a large number of high-level ab initio points. The photodissociassion dynamics from three fundamental vibrational states of H2O were explored from quantum dynamical calculations including the electronic X̃ and B̃ states on the basis of a Chebyshev real wave packet method. Because of the different shapes of various initial vibrational wave functions, the photoexcited wavepackets access different portions of the upper-state potential energy surface, which yields different absorption spectra, ro-vibrational distributions, and branching ratios. The bending excited vibrational state (0,1,0) generates two lobes with a shallow minimum on the absorption spectrum, a dominant vibrational inverted population OH(X̃, ν = 1) fragment at higher energy, and a nearly single rotational product propensity. The bond-stretching vibrational states (0,0,1) and (1,0,0) show a high OH(Ã)/OH(X̃) ratio at short photon wavelength, which indicates that dissociation proceeds mainly via the adiabatic channel.

Abstract:State-to-state photodissociation dynamics of D2S in its first absorption band were explored by utilizing recently developed diabatic potential energy surfaces (PESs). Quantum dynamics calculations, involving the first two strongly coupled 1A″ states, were executed employing a Chebyshev real wavepacket method. The nonadiabatic channel via the conical intersection (CI) is facile, direct, and fast, leading to the production of rotationally and vibrationally cold SD(X̃2Π). The calculated absorption spectrum, product state distributions, and angular distributions are in reasonable agreement with the experimental results, although some discrepancies exist at 193.3 nm. Compared with H2S, there are obvious isotope effects on rotational state distributions for D2S photodissociation in its first absorption band. Moreover, we scrutinize the variation of product state distributions as a function of photon energy and the vibrational mediated photodissociation of the parent molecule. Due to the diverse shapes of the three fundamental vibrational wave functions, photoexcited wavepackets access distinct segments of the upper-state PES, resulting in a disparate absorption spectrum and ro-vibrational distributions via the nonadiabatic transition. This study provides a comprehensive figure of the isotopic effect and wavelength dependence on the photofragmentation behaviors from D2S photodissociation, which should attract more experimental and theoretical attention to this prototypical system.

Abstract:Photodissociation is one of the key issues in chemistry. Quantum state resolved photodissociation dynamics provides us the remarkable understanding for the photodissociation reaction mechanism at the atomic and molecular level. Our knowledge about the nature of the photodissociation process is largely enriched with the combination of experimental and theoretical studies and great advances have been achieved for the state-to-state photodissociation dynamics in the last 40 years. This article reviews the progress in theoretical studies for state-to-state photodissociation dynamics of small molecules and summarizes the photodissociation dynamics for H2O and CH3I. Finally, the open questions and challenges in this field are also addressed.

Abstract:In this paper,the heterogeneous photochemical reaction of CS2 on the surface of semiconductor particle TiO2 was investigated by using in situ diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(DRIFTS),GC,XPS and other means.The results showed that under the simulated sunlight irradiation,the heterogeneous photochemical reaction of low concentration CS2(8.1 mg·m-3) occurred on the surface of TiO2 particles.The gaseous products were COS,H2S,SO2,and the surface product was sulfate.Under 21% oxygen volume concentration and xenon lamp irradiation,the process of CS2 photocatalytic oxidation on TiO2 particles fit apparent first order dynamics reaction.The BET adsorption coefficient was 5.36×10-8.
