Abstract:Abstract Purpose: In this study, a non-invasive radiomics method was used to extract a large amount of valuable information from patient CT images (including pre-treatment and follow-up images), and the image features were effectively combined with treatment effect evaluation, aiming to solve the problem of lung adenocarcinoma in patients with EGFR mutation positive. The early efficacy evaluation of cancer EGFR-TKI targeted drugs provides a scientific basis for clinical drug selection and adjustment of treatment plans. Methods: It is planned to include 106 patients with EGFR-TKI targeted therapy for lung adenocarcinoma in Shaoxing People's Hospital (pathologically confirmed EGFR mutation positive), and randomly divide them into a training group and a validation group in a ratio of 7:3. The CT plain scan images of patients before and 2 months after treatment were collected, and the images were segmented by ITK-SNAP software. Perform feature screening and modeling, and draw nomograms, calibration curves, and decision curves. Results: After Lasso dimensionality reduction, three features with non-zero coefficients are extracted between groups, sumEntropy,LongRunLowGreyLevelEmphasis_angle0_offset1, LongRunLowGreyLevelEmphasis_angle0_offset4. The average area under the curve (AUC) of the logistic regression model in the training group and the validation group was 0.778 and 0.773, respectively; the Nomogram chart showed that after the three radiomics parameters were scored, the total score was 0-130, and the corresponding effective The risk was 0.1-0.9; the calibration curve showed that the predicted value and the actual clinical observation value approached a 45° slope, indicating that the model was well calibrated; while the decision curve radiomics model was used to evaluate EGFR-TKI in lung adenocarcinoma Targeted drugs have better clinical benefits when they have early efficacy. Conclusions: The radiomics model established based on the radiomics features of CT unenhanced images has good performance in evaluating the efficacy of EGFR-TKI targeted drugs in the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma, and the final Nomogram map can quantitatively evaluate the curative effect, providing individual patient information.

Abstract:AIM: To analyse subsolid nodules (SSNs) detected during low-dose (LD) computed tomography (CT) screening and investigated whether CT texture analysis parameters can predict the malignancy and growth trends of GGNs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, 89 SSNs were detected in 86 LDCT screening participants, including 42 pure ground-glass nodules (GGNs) and 47 part-solid GGNs. In these participants, 28 SSNs were diagnosed as lung cancer at histopathology, and 61 SSNs from participants who underwent at least two LDCT imaging studies. All nodules were divided into three groups: cancer group, growth group, and non-growth group. The nodule size, volume, attenuation, volume doubling time (VDT), and texture parameters (mean value, uniformity, entropy and energy) were assessed, respectively. RESULTS: The entropy of the cancer group was significantly higher than that of the growth and non-growth groups (pure GGNs: p=0.009, 0.001; part-solid GGNs: p=0.012, 0.004). The energy of the cancer group was significantly lower than that of the other groups (pure GGNs: p=0.043, 0.021; part-solid GGNs: p=0.001, 0.002). A good positive correlation was found between uniformity and VDT (p=0.022). CONCLUSION: Different CT texture parameters show good predictive value for SSNs detected at LDCT screening: the entropy and energy differences between malignant pulmonary nodules and others could be a helpful quantitative index to predict the malignancy of SSNs. Uniformity could be used to predict the growth probability of pure GGNs at baseline to pay more attention to these nodules. Moreover, the follow-up and treatment plan could be more targeted. Abstract:Objective:To investigate the application of low-dose chest CT(LDCT) in the screening of pulmonary subsolid nodules in population and the application value of artificial intelligence.Methods:People who received chest LDCT screening between January 2015 and December 2017 were included. A retrospective study was developed to analyze the enrolled population features , detection of pulmonary subsolid nodules and independent predictors of subsolid nodules , and to evaluate the accuracy of the artificial intelligence reading method.Results:Result of three cross-sectional studies reveals that the detection rates of pulmonary subsolid nodules were 0.42%, 0.69% and 0.92% in three rounds. 726 cases who completed the three rounds of screening were included in the cohort study. The cohort population was predominantly male(83.2%), with a median age of 43 years, and nearly half of the subjects(47.0%) had a history of smoking. GEE revealed that the patient's family history of lung cancer( OR=8.753, 95% CI: 1.877-40.816, P=0.006) was an independent predictor of the detection of subsolid nodules. In the 110 kVp tube voltage group, AUC of AI model was 0.740, and AUC of the manual reading method was 0.721, no significant differences were observed( P=0.502); when the preseted cutoff value of AI model was 0.75, the NRI was -0.15, indicating the accuracy of AI model was inferior to manual method( P=0.006). In the 130 kVp tube voltage group, AUC of the model was 0.888, and AUC of the manual reading method was 0.756, no significant differences were observed( P=0.128); and the NRI was 0.19, indicating the accuracy of AI model was not inferior to manual method( P=0.123). Conclusion:This population' s detection rates of pulmonary subsolid nodules were 0.42%-0.92%. Family history of lung cancer was an independent predictor of subsolid pulmonary nodules. The result of AI pulmonary nodule detection model could be a reference when the training set data parameters match the actual application parameters.

Abstract:Background: Estimating the growth of pulmonary sub-solid nodules (SSNs) is crucial to the successful management of them during follow-up periods. The purpose of this study is to (1) investigate the measurement sensitivity of diameter, volume, and mass of SSNs for identifying growth and (2) seek to establish a deep learning-based model to predict the growth of SSNs. Methods: A total of 2,523 patients underwent at least 2-year examination records retrospectively collected with sub-solid nodules. A total of 2,358 patients with 3,120 SSNs from the NLST dataset were randomly divided into training and validation sets. Patients from the Yibicom Health Management Center and Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital were collected as an external test set (165 patients with 213 SSN). Trained models based on LUNA16 and Lndb19 datasets were employed to automatically obtain the diameter, volume, and mass of SSNs. Then, the increase rate in measurements between cancer and non-cancer groups was studied to evaluate the most appropriate way to identify growth-associated lung cancer. Further, according to the selected measurement, all SSNs were classified into two groups: growth and non-growth. Based on the data, the deep learning-based model (SiamModel) and radiomics model were developed and verified. Results: The double time of diameter, volume, and mass were 711 vs. 963 days (P = 0.20), 552 vs. 621 days (P = 0.04) and 488 vs. 623 days (P< 0.001) in the cancer and non-cancer groups, respectively. Our proposed SiamModel performed better than the radiomics model in both the NLST validation set and external test set, with an AUC of 0.858 (95% CI 0.786–0.921) and 0.760 (95% CI 0.646–0.857) in the validation set and 0.862 (95% CI 0.789–0.927) and 0.681 (95% CI 0.506–0.841) in the external test set, respectively. Furthermore, our SiamModel could use the data from first-time CT to predict the growth of SSNs, with an AUC of 0.855 (95% CI 0.793–0.908) in the NLST validation set and 0.821 (95% CI 0.725–0.904) in the external test set. Conclusion: Mass increase rate can reflect more sensitively the growth of SSNs associated with lung cancer than diameter and volume increase rates. A deep learning-based model has a great potential to predict the growth of SSNs.

Abstract:Because of the increasing frequency and the high malignancy rate of pulmonary ground-glass nodules (GGN),it is crucial to further study and evaluate the CT signs of GGN.Recent advances in imaging techniques and data anal-ysis have enabled novel imaging biomarkers,such as volume,texture features,mass,and CT perfusion parameters,that can be used to evaluate GGN more comprehensively and objectively,and provide more imaging evidence for its benign or malignant diagnosis.In this paper we reviewed the CT features of GGN including nodule size,density,growth pattern,and tumor vessels,in order to improve our recognition of GGNs and diagnosis,and guide clinical follow-up and treatment strategies.
An Effective Malignancy Prediction Model for Incidentally Detected Pulmonary Subsolid Nodules Based on Current and Prior CT Scans.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION:It is challenging to diagnose and manage incidentally detected pulmonary subsolid nodules due to their indolent nature and heterogeneity. The objective of this study is to construct a decision tree-based model to predict malignancy of a subsolid nodule based on radiomics features and evolution over time.MATERIALS AND METHODS:We derived a training set (2947 subsolid nodules), a test set (280 subsolid nodules) from a cohort of outpatient CT scans, and a second test set (5171 subsolid nodules) from the National Lung Cancer Screening Trial (NLST). A Computer-Aided Diagnosis system (CADs) automatically extracted 28 preselected radiomics features, and we calculated the feature change rates as the change of the quantitative measure per time unit between the prior and current CT scans. We built classification models based on XGBoost and employed 5-fold cross validation to optimize the parameters.RESULTS:The model that combined radiomics features with their change rates performed the best. The Areas Under Curve (AUCs) on the outpatient test set and on the NLST test set were 0.977 (95% CI, 0.958-0.996) and 0.955 (95% CI, 0.930-0.980), respectively. The model performed consistently well on subgroups stratified by nodule diameters, solid components, and CT scan intervals.CONCLUSION:This decision tree-based model trained with the outpatient dataset gives promising predictive performance on the malignancy of pulmonary subsolid nodules. Additionally, it can assist clinicians to deliver more accurate diagnoses and formulate more in-depth follow-up strategies.

Abstract:In recent years, the incidence of lung cancer has been increasing. Lung cancer detection is based on computed tomography (CT) imaging of the lung area to determine whether there are pulmonary nodules. And then judge what's good and what's bad. However, due to the traditional way of manual reading and lack of experience and other problems. This leads to visual fatigue and misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. In order to detect pulmonary nodules early and accurately, a new assistant diagnosis method for pulmonary nodules is proposed. Firstly, the image is preprocessed and denoised by median filter, the lung parenchyma is segmented by random walk algorithm and the region of interest is extracted, and then, according to the continuity of the CT slices, the texture feature extraction method of pulmonary nodules based on volume local direction ternary pattern is used to extract the features. Finally, the pulmonary nodules are identified and classified by the assistant diagnosis model of pulmonary nodules based on Stacking algorithm. In order to illustrate the validity of the diagnosis model, the experiments are carried out by cross-validation of ten folds. Experiments using data from LIDC database show that the accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of the proposed method are 82.2%, 85.7%, and 78.8%, respectively. Texture Recognition method based on volume vocal direction ternary pattern is feasible for the identification of pulmonary nodules and provides a reference value for doctor-assisted diagnosis.

Prediction of future imagery of lung nodule as growth modeling with follow-up computed tomography scans using deep learning: a retrospective cohort study

Abstract:Background: Risk prediction models of lung nodules have been built to alleviate the heavy interpretative burden on clinicians. However, the malignancy scores output by those models can be difficult to interpret in a clinically meaningful manner. In contrast, the modeling of lung nodule growth may be more readily useful. This study developed a CT-based visual forecasting system that can visualize and quantify a nodule in three dimensions (3D) in any future time point using follow-up CT scans. Methods: We retrospectively included 246 patients with 313 lung nodules with at least 1 follow-up CT scan. For the manually segmented nodules, we calculated geometric properties including CT value, diameter, volume, and mass, as well as growth properties including volume doubling time (VDT), and consolidation-to-tumor ratio (CTR) at follow-ups. These nodules were divided into growth and non-growth groups by thresholding their VDTs. We then developed a convolutional neural network (CNN) to model the imagery change of the nodules from baseline CT image (combined with the nodule mask) to follow-up CT image with a particular time interval. The model was evaluated on the geometric and radiological properties using either logistic regression or receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: The lung nodules consisted of 115 ground glass nodules (GGN) and 198 solid nodules and were followed up for an average of 354 days with 2 to 11 scans. The 2 groups differed significantly in most properties. The prediction of our forecasting system was highly correlated with the ground truth with small relative errors regarding the four geometric properties. The prediction-derived VDTs had an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.857 and 0.843 in differentiating growth and non-growth nodules for GGN and solid nodules, respectively. The prediction-derived CTRs had an AUC of 0.892 in classifying high- and low-risk nodules. Conclusions: This proof-of-concept study demonstrated that the deep learning-based model can accurately forecast the imagery of a nodule in a given future for both GGNs and solid nodules and is worthy of further investigation. With a larger dataset and more validation, such a system has the potential to become a prognostication tool for assessing lung nodules.
Initial Application of Digital Tomosynthesis for Detection of Pulmonary Nodules

Abstract:Objective To discuss the value of digital tomosynthesis for detection of pulmonary nodules. Methods Thirty patients suspected of having pulmonary nodules underwent chest radiography, digital tomosynthesis and CT examination. Above image data were transferred to postprocessing work station and were reviewed by 2 radiologists with 3 years of chest-radiology diagnosis experience in a double-blind method. The number, location and size of nodules were recorded. Then, 2 radiologists reviewed the all images once more, and discuss in consensus. The sensitivities of chest radiography and digital tomosynthesis for detection of pulmonary nodules were respectively calculated according to the CT results. Chi-square test was used for radiography, digital tomosynthesis and CT examination. Results Of 30 patients, 21 were detected having pulmonary nodules by X-ray radiography and 9 were negative, the total number of 40 nodules was detected, while 89 nodules in 26 patients were detected by digital tomosynthesis, and only 4 patients were negative. CT demonstrated 102 nodules in 27 patients, and 3 patients were negative. Taking CT as "gold standard", the sensitivities of X-ray radiography and digital tomosynthesis were 27.4%(28/102)and 87.2%(89/102), X~2=4.35, P<0.05, respectively. Conclusion Digital tomosynthesis has a high sensitivity for detection of pulmonary nodules compared with X-ray radiography, and could be an excellent and necessary supplementary technique of X-ray radiography.

Abstract:Abstract Lung cancer screening based on low-dose CT (LDCT) has now been widely applied because of its effectiveness and ease of performance. Radiologists who evaluate a large LDCT screening images face enormous challenges, including mechanical repetition and boring work, the easy omission of small nodules, lack of consistent criteria, etc. It requires an efficient method for helping radiologists improve nodule detection accuracy with efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Many novel deep neural network-based systems have demonstrated the potential for use in the proposed technique to detect lung nodules. However, the effectiveness of clinical practice has not been fully recognized or proven. Therefore, the aim of this study to develop and assess a deep learning (DL) algorithm in identifying pulmonary nodules (PNs) on LDCT and investigate the prevalence of the PNs in China. Radiologists and algorithm performance were assessed using the FROC score, ROC-AUC, and average time consumption. Agreement between the reference standard and the DL algorithm in detecting positive nodules was assessed per-study by Bland–Altman analysis. The Lung Nodule Analysis (LUNA) public database was used as the external test. The prevalence of NCPNs was investigated as well as other detailed information regarding the number of pulmonary nodules, their location, and characteristics, as interpreted by two radiologists.

Abstract:Background: Pulmonary nodule growth rate assessment is critical in the management of subsolid pulmonary nodules (SSNs) during clinical follow-up. The present study aimed to develop a model to predict the growth rate of SSNs. Methods: A total of 273 growing SSNs with clinical information and 857 computed tomography (CT) scans were retrospectively analyzed. The images were randomly divided into training and validation sets. All images were categorized into fast-growth (volume doubling time (VDT) ≤ 400 days) and slow-growth (VDT > 400 days) groups. Models for predicting the growth rate of SSNs were developed using radiomics and clinical features. The models' performance was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC) values for the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The fast- and slow-growth groups included 108 and 749 scans, respectively, and 10 radiomics features and three radiographic features (nodule density, presence of spiculation, and presence of vascular changes) were selected to predict the growth rate of SSNs. The nomogram integrating radiomics and radiographic features (AUC = 0.928 and AUC = 0.905, respectively) performed better than the radiographic (AUC = 0.668 and AUC = 0.689, respectively) and radiomics (AUC = 0.888 and AUC = 0.816, respectively) models alone in both the training and validation sets. Conclusion: The nomogram model developed by combining radiomics with radiographic features can predict the growth rate of SSNs more accurately than traditional radiographic models. It can also optimize clinical treatment decisions for patients with SSNs and improve their long-term management.
A study on CT radiomics approach to predict outcomes of simultaneously pulmonary nodules in breast cancer patients after treatment

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the feasibility of CT radiomics method in predicting outcomes of simultaneous pulmonary nodules in breast cancer patients after treatment.Methods:Patients with breast cancer confirmed by pathology and with simultaneous pulmonary nodules (diameter>5 mm, number≤5) detected by preoperative CT were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Eighty female patients were included (median age: 52, quartile range: 45, 61). The pulmonary nodules (median size: 6.0 mm, quartile range: 5.5, 7.2 mm) were classified into stable group (without change over 2 years) and change group according to follow-up CT findings. The change group was further divided into improved group and progressive group. Eventually, 54 cases were in the stable group, 26 cases were in the change group. One hundred and five texture features were extracted using the python-based pyradiomics package based on preoperative CT images. Stepwise regression was used to exclude features without significant difference in predicting changes of pulmonary nodules. Classifiers model and 5 fold cross validation method were used to obtain the highest performance in predicting outcomes of pulmonary nodules. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the model.Results:After features exclusion and selection, three radiomics features were used to establish classifiers between stable group and change group. It was showed that the linear discriminate analysis was the optimal model with the specificity, sensitivity, accuracy and area under the ROC curve (AUC) as 0.980, 0.460, 0.813 and 0.770 respectively. One radiomics feature was chosen to establish classifiers between improved group and progressive group. The coarse gaussian support vector machine (CGSVM) was the optimal model, with the specificity, sensitivity, accuracy and AUC as 0.540, 0.920, 0.713 and 0.880 respectively.Conclusions:CT radiomics analysis has the potential to predict the outcomes of simultaneous indeterminate pulmonary nodules in breast cancer patients after treatment, and it may contribute to preoperative treatment and postoperative follow-up planning.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the image quality and diagnostic performance of pulmonary subsolid nodules on conventional iterative algorithms, virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs), and electron density mapping (EDM) using a dual-layer detector spectral CT (DLSCT). Methods: This retrospective study recruited 270 patients who underwent DLSCT scan for lung nodule screening or follow-up. All CT examinations with subsolid nodules (pure ground-glass nodules [GGNs] or part-solid nodules) were reconstructed with hybrid and model-based iterative reconstruction, VMI at 40, 70, 100, and 130 keV levels, and EDM. The CT number, objective image noise, signal-to-noise ratio, contrast-to-noise ratio, diameter, and volume of subsolid nodules were measured for quantitative analysis. The overall image quality, image noise, visualization of nodules, artifact, and sharpness were subjectively rated by 2 thoracic radiologists on a 5-point scale (1 = unacceptable, 5 = excellent) in consensus. The objective image quality measurements, diameter, and volume were compared among the 7 groups with a repeated 1-way analysis of variance. The subjective scores were compared with Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: A total of 198 subsolid nodules, including 179 pure GGNs, and 19 part-solid nodules were identified. Based on the objective analysis, EDM had the highest signal-to-noise ratio (164.71 ± 133.60; P < 0.001) and contrast-to-noise ratio (227.97 ± 161.96; P < 0.001) among all image sets. Furthermore, EDM had a superior mean subjective rating score (4.80 ± 0.42) for visualization of GGNs compared to other reconstructed images (all P < 0.001), although the model-based iterative reconstruction had superior subjective scores of overall image quality. For pure GGNs, the measured diameter and volume did not significantly differ among different reconstructions (both P > 0.05). Conclusions: EDM derived from DLSCT enabled improved image quality and lesion conspicuity for the evaluation of lung subsolid nodules compared to conventional iterative reconstruction algorithms and VMIs.
The Natural Growth of Subsolid Nodules Predicted by Quantitative Initial CT Features: A Systematic Review

Abstract:Background: The detection rate for pulmonary nodules, particularly subsolid nodules (SSNs), has been significantly improved. The purpose of this review is to summarize the relationship between quantitative features of initial CT imaging and the subsequent natural growth of SSNs to explore potential reasons for these findings. Methods: Relevant studies were collected from a literature search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane. Data extraction was performed on the patients' basic information, CT methods, and acquisition methods, including quantitative CT features, and statistical methods. Results: A total of 10 relevant articles were included in our review, which included 850 patients with 1,026 SSNs. Overall, the results were variable, and the key findings were as follows. Seven studies looked at the relationship between the diameter and growth of SSNs, showing that SSNs with larger diameters were associated with increased growth. An additional three studies which focused on the relationship between CT attenuation and the growth of SSNs showed that SSNs with a high CT attenuation were associated with increased growth. Conclusion: CT attenuation may be useful in predicting the natural growth of SSNs, and mean CT attenuation may be more useful in predicting the natural growth of pure ground glass nodules (GGNs) than part-solid GGNs. While evaluation by diameter did have some limitations, it demonstrates value in predicting the growth of SSNs.

Abstract:Objective By comparing three reading methods of CT screening for lung nodules: CAD, double reading and the radiologist combined with CAD. To evaluation the application of computer aided testing system (CAD) in CT screening for lung nodules.Methods 60subjects diagnosed with lung nodules undergoing the rountine-dose screening CT examination were random selected. Three methods were used, Method A: using CAD system to identify the image automatically. Methods B: two radiologists reading all images , record the results and with 2 agreement as the final diagnosis; Method C: by another radiologist as the same work experience with CAD system, recorded the detection as the final diagnosis. The reference standard was determined by three raiologists. χ2 test was performed to test whether there is significant difference between sensitivities of three reading modes, and statistical significances were defined as P<0.05. Results CAD system, double reading, the radiologist with CAD method of pulmonary nodules detection sensitivity was 75.1%,73.8% and 87.3% respectively. The sensitivities of pulmonary nodule detection of the radiologist combined with CAD was significantly higher than CAD and double reading methods (P=0.001,P=0.0003).There were no significant sensitivity diffrernce between CAD and double reading method (P=0.74). Conclusion The CAD system can improve the ability of detection pulmonary nodules of the radiologist, and radiologists in combination with CAD diagnosis method is better than double reading method with same work experience.
Predicting Malignancy and Invasiveness of Pulmonary Subsolid Nodules on CT Images Using Deep Learning.

Abstract:BackgroundTo develop and validate a deep learning–based model on CT images for the malignancy and invasiveness prediction of pulmonary subsolid nodules (SSNs).Materials and MethodsThis study retrospectively collected patients with pulmonary SSNs treated by surgery in our hospital from 2012 to 2018. Postoperative pathology was used as the diagnostic reference standard. Three-dimensional convolutional neural network (3D CNN) models were constructed using preoperative CT images to predict the malignancy and invasiveness of SSNs. Then, an observer reader study conducted by two thoracic radiologists was used to compare with the CNN model. The diagnostic power of the models was evaluated with receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis.ResultsA total of 2,614 patients were finally included and randomly divided for training (60.9%), validation (19.1%), and testing (20%). For the benign and malignant classification, the best 3D CNN model achieved a satisfactory AUC of 0.913 (95% CI: 0.885–0.940), sensitivity of 86.1%, and specificity of 83.8% at the optimal decision point, which outperformed all observer readers’ performance (AUC: 0.846±0.031). For pre-invasive and invasive classification of malignant SSNs, the 3D CNN also achieved satisfactory AUC of 0.908 (95% CI: 0.877–0.939), sensitivity of 87.4%, and specificity of 80.8%.ConclusionThe deep-learning model showed its potential to accurately identify the malignancy and invasiveness of SSNs and thus can help surgeons make treatment decisions.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Background</h3><p>The aim of the study was to investigate 3D texture analysis (3D‐TA) in noncontrast enhanced computed tomography (CT) (NCECT) to differentiate squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) from adenocarcinoma (AC), and the correlation with immunohistochemical markers.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>A total of 70 patients confirmed with SCC (<i>n</i> = 29) and AC (<i>n</i> = 41) were enrolled in this retrospective study. 3D‐TA was utilized to calculate TA parameters of all the tumor lesions based on NCECT images, and all the patients were divided into the training and the test groups. The TA parameters were selected by dimensionality reduction, and the model was established to differentiate SCC from AC according to the training group. The ROC curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of the model in both the training and the test groups. Spearman correlation were used to assess the correlation between the selected feature parameters and immunohistochemical markers (P63, P40, and TTF‐1). </p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>Five TA parameters, including volume count, relative deviation, Haralick correlation, gray‐level nonuniformity and run length nonuniformity, were obtained to differentiate SCC from AC by multistep dimensionality reduction. The new model combined with all five TA parameters yielded a high diagnostic performance to differentiate SCC from AC (AUC 0.803) in test group, with a specificity of 89% and a sensitivity of 77%. There was weak correlation between the five texture feature parameters and P63 as well as P40 in all patients (<i>P</i> < 0.05), respectively. </p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusions</h3><p>The model including five TA parameters on NECT has a good diagnostic performance in differentiating SCC from AC.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Key points</h3><p><b>• Significant findings of the study</b></p><p>The model created by five selected textural feature parameters can differentiate solid SCC from AC without contrast media.
