Abstract:Objective: To explore the relationship between peripheral blood neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR) and procalcitonin(PCT) and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIBD) in preterm infants. Methods: A total of 50 HIBD premature infants were included in this study, while 100 premature infants without brain damage in the same period were chosen as control group. All the patients were hospitalized in the neonatal unit of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from Mar. 1 to Dec. 30 of 2019. The differences in perinatal clinical data, NLR and PCT levels on the 1st day and 3rd day after birth between the two groups were compared. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the risk factors for HIBD in premature neonates. ROC curve was used to analyze the predictive value of NLR and PCT levels. Results: Premature rupture of membrane, vaginal delivery, elevated NLR and PCT levels on the 3rd day after birth were risk factors for HIBD in preterm infants(P<0. 05, OR>1).NLR and PCT played a predictive role for HIBD in preterm infants, and the combined assay could increase area under the curve(AUC) and improve sensitivity. Conclusion: Premature rupture of membrane, vaginal delivery, elevated NLR and PCT levels on the 3rd day after birth are risk factors for HIBD in preterm infants. NLR and PCT levels can serve as reference indicators for early diagnosis of HIBD in premature infants to provide some clinical value.
