Abstract:NiCuZn ferrites were prepared by traditional oxide ceramic method. The morphology, complex permeability spectrum, static magnetic properties and high frequency power losses were observed and tested by scanning electron microscopy, impedance analyzer, hysteresis loop analyzer, respectively. The result reveals that with Co2O3 content increasing from 0 to 0.12wt%, the average grain size of the samples slightly decreases, and the initial permeability reduces gradually, however, the resonance frequency increases gradually. In addition, in the condition of 3MHz, 10mT, and 25 to 140℃, with Co2O3 content increasing, due to increase of resonance frequency, the imaginary part of permeability at high frequency is suppressed, and residual loss decreases, leading to monotonous decrease in core losses.

Abstract:To obtain miniaturized, lightweight, and integrated power conversion devices, the core material must be suitable for operation at higher frequencies (in the megahertz range) and must exhibit excellent performance, specifically, low core losses. In this study, MnZn power ferrites, a common core material, were doped with calcium copper titanate (CCTO) using a solid-state reaction method. The effects of CCTO doping (0.0-0.5 wt%) on the structural, magnetic, and dielectric properties of the MnZn ferrites were studied. The addition of 0.2 wt% CCTO to the MnZn ferrites improved the grain uniformity and decreased the porosity; thus, the material exhibited a fine microstructure. In addition, the saturation induction, initial permeability, and resistivity of the MnZn ferrites were increased, and the high-frequency core losses were suppressed. The core losses of the 0.2 wt% CCTO sample were only 495 kW/m(3) at 3 MHz, 30 mT, and 25 degrees C. The lower core losses resulted mainly from reductions in the hysteresis loss and eddy current loss. The real permittivity of two representative MnZn ferrite samples was also investigated. The application of state-of-the-art MnZn ferrites with superior electromagnetic properties in high-frequency power conversion devices is anticipated. This study demonstrates that adding a dielectric material improves the electromagnetic properties of MnZn power ferrites.

Abstract:MnZn power ferrites for MHz and wide temperature applications were prepared by ceramic process and effects of Co2O3 and MoO3 co-doping on the microstructure and magnetic properties have been investigated, and MnZn power ferrite with ultra-high cut-off frequency of 14.2 MHz has been prepared. It has been revealed that the grain size of the MnZn ferrite can be homogenize via the co-doping of Co2O3 and MoO3, giving rise to enhanced electrical resistivity, compensated magnetocrystalline anisotropy and reduced domain wall displacement. Effective reduction of the power loss with improved temperature stability and cut-off frequency have been achieved by synergistic function of Co2O3 and MoO3 via liquid-phase sintering increasing the possibility of Co2+ cation entering into the spinel lattice.

Abstract:Due to the rapid development of electronic devices towards high frequency, miniaturization, and high efficiency, it is imperative to develop MHz-frequency power ferrites exhibiting low loss over a broad temperature range. In this work, the broad-temperature low-loss Mn-Zn power ferrites operating in the frequency range of 0.5-3 MHz have been fabricated following the traditional oxide ceramic process. Co3O4 was added and its content was optimized to achieve the broad-temperature characteristics of power loss. The optimal Co3O4 content was determined to be 0.35 wt%. The power losses of this material are less than 30, 120, and 30 kW/m3 in the broad temperature range from 0 to 120 °C under the conditions of 500kHz/50 mT, 1MHz/50 mT, and 3MHz/10 mT, respectively. This material is an ideal material for applications in power conversion electronics at high frequencies (0.5-3 MHz). The effect of Co3O4 addition on power loss is discussed based on the compensation model of magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant. Analysis of the three parts of power loss reveals that the residual loss gradually becomes to be predominant above 1.2 MHz. The addition of Co3O4 reduces the residual loss and increases the cut-off frequency. This is ascribed to the induced uniaxial anisotropy of Co2+.

Abstract:The rapid advancement of modern electronic technology requires MnZn ferrites capable of handling high-frequency signals, offering very low power loss and reasonably high permeability. MnZn ferrftes were developed by using the conventional ceramic processing technique and the effects of Co2O3 and SnO2 doping on high-frequency magnetic properties were investigated. Co2O3 and SnO2 co-doping resulted in a sharp decrease of eddy-current loss and residual loss of the MnZn ferrites at 3-5 MHz and improved the temperature characteristics at 20-120 degrees C. The minimum power losses at 20 degrees C, 10 mT for 3 MHz and 5 MHz were 20 kW/m(3) and 81 kW/m(3), while the power losses at 100 degrees C, 10 mT for 3 MHz and 5 MHz were 60 kW/m(3) and 205 kW/m(3) respectively. The optimal saturation magnetic flux density and initial permeability were 480 mT and 675 respectively. The cut-off frequency of the sample was 12 MHz, establishing it as an ideal material for high-frequency applications.

Abstract:While the Cu substitution in NiCuZn ferrites is known to enhance densification and increase the initial permeability (mu i), little is known about its effects in the MnZn based ferrites, which naturally possess a higher saturation magnetization (Ms) and mu i. In this study, the effects of Cu substitution for Mn on the power MnZn ferrites (Mn0.71xCuxZn0.22Fe2.07O4, x = 0.00-0.35) are investigated. With increasing Cu content, enhanced density, reduced porosity, and significant grain growth are observed. The cation distribution was determined using the Rietveld refinement, showing the strong tendency of Cu2+ ions to occupy the octahedral sites of the spinel lattice. The magnetization curves show reduced Ms with increasing Cu content. The magnetic anisotropy (|K|) was also determined from the magnetization curves using the law of approach to saturation and is seen to be increased by the increasing Cu content. The reduced Ms and increased |K| lead to the dramatic reduction of mu i from 2503 (x = 0.00) to 151 (x = 0.35) at room temperature. Despite the reduced Ms at room temperature, the Curie temperature (TC) is seen to increase with increasing Cu content from x = 0.05 to x = 0.35, indicating the relocation of cations at an elevated temperature. The cut-off frequency (fr) is increased with increasing Cu content, which corresponds to the reduced mu i. Moreover, the core loss (Pcv) of the MnCuZn ferrites was tested at 100kHz/200 mT, 200kHz/ 125 mT, and 300kHz/100 mT at room temperature, and is found to deteriorate with the increasing Cu content.

Abstract:Low-temperature-fired NiCuZn ferrites with fixed 0.25 wt% Bi2O3 doping and different Co2O3 doping contents (0-0.5 wt%) were prepared using solid-phase reaction method. In addition, phase composition, microstructure, and magnetic properties of the ferrites, especially their power loss characteristics, were investigated. Results show that the permeability decreased while the coercivity increased with increase in Co2O3 content. Sintered density and saturation flux density (B-s) first increased and then decreased. The maximum density and Bs values were obtained at Co2O3 doping contents of 0.35 and 0.25 wt%, respectively. The best power loss performance was obtained for the sample containing 0.3 wt% Co2O3 at different temperatures (25 degrees C and 100 degrees C) and different induction conditions (1-10 MHz and 5-20mT). The corresponding influence mechanisms were analyzed in detail. It was concluded that the NiCuZn ferrite doped with 0.25 wt% Bi2O3 and 0.3 wt% Co2O3 is the best choice for high-frequency and low-temperature co-fired ceramic applications as magnetic power components.

Abstract:NiMgCuZn ferrites co-doped with Ta2O5 and Co2O3 additives have been prepared by a solid-state reaction method. The influence of Ta2O5–Co2O3 (TC) additives on the microstructure, static magnetic properties and core losses (Pcv) at high frequency of NiMgCuZn ferrites has been investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), LCR meter and B–H analyzer. The results revealed that the composite additives reduce the sintering density via inhibiting the grain growth. According to Zagg’s report, the average grain sizes are smaller than 2.4μm for different TC contents, hence all the samples have single domain structures. In addition, the saturation induction and initial permeability of the samples reduce monotonously with the increase of TC contents. While the coercivity and cutoff frequency show an opposite trend. For the samples with different TC contents, the core losses at high frequency have been discussed.
Microwave Properties and Surface Topography of Soft Magnetic Films with High Resistivity

Abstract:A single layer of CoFeB and a multilayer of CoFeB-MgO films are prepared by means of DC/RF magnetron sputter deposition. The excellent microwave properties and high electrical resistivity are simultaneously achieved in the discontinuous multilayer structure of [Co44Fe44B12(0.7 nm)/MgO(0.4 nm)](40) film. This film has a high permeability (mu') (larger than 100 below 2.1 GIIz), a high magnetic loss (mu '') (larger than 100 in a range from 1.5 to 3.3 GIIz), a resistivity of 3.3 x 10(3) mu Omega.cm, a saturation magnetization of 1.2 T, and an in-plane uniaxial anisotropy field of 5.5 kA/m. The microstructure and the surface topography of the film are also analysed. The relatively large surface roughness for the discontinuous film is responsible for the wide frequency band of magnetic loss. The magnetic loss and the high resistivity indicate that the discontinuous CoFeB-MgO multilayer film has potential applications in microwave absorbers and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials in a GHz frequency range.

Abstract:Co(2)Z type planar hexaferrite doping of Sr2+ 2CoO center dot 3Ba(1-x)Sr(x)O center dot 10.8Fe(2)O(3) is made with common production process of cermet. The paper studied the influence of Sr2+ doping quantity on microstructure and magnetic performance of Co(2)Z type planar hexaferrite. The result indicates that when the doping quantity x=0.4, the magnetic performance in ultrahigh frequency will get improved, the initial permeability can grow to 14, and the cut-off frequency will also relatively increase to 2.45GHz.

Abstract:The MnZn power ferrites were prepared by the conventional oxide ceramic process.The influence of ZrO2 addition on the temperature dependence of the initial permeability(μi) and losses(Pcv) of MnZn power ferrites were investigated by means of characterizing the microstructure and electrical and magnetic properties.The results indicated that at room temperature,both the initial permeability(μi) and electrical resistivity of MnZn power ferrites increased initially and then decreased with the increase of ZrO2 additive,while the losses changed conversely.When the mass fraction of the ZrO2 was w(ZrO2)=0.02%,the MnZn power ferrites showed the highest initial permeability and electrical resistivity,while the power losses was lowest.Meanwhile,both the temperature of secondary maximum peak of μi-T curve and the corresponding temperature of the minimum loss moved to the lower temperature with the ZrO2 additive increasing.Finally,when w(ZrO2) was 0.02%,the MnZn power ferrites had lower power losses within wide temperature from 25 ℃ to 120 ℃.
Dielectric and Magnetic Properties of Co O Modified 0.4PZT 0.6NiCuZn-Ferrite Composites

Abstract:In order to improve the electromagnetic properties of 0.4PZT+0.6NiCuZn-ferrite composites for suppressing electromagnetic interference (EMI), Co2O3 was introduced. The effects of Co2O3 content on the electromagnetic properties of the composite materials were investigated. It was confirmed the existence of local induced anisotropy caused by ordering of Co2+ ions. Permeability spectra of the composites with different Co2O3 content had been resolved into contributions of domain wall resonance and spin rotation relaxation. The fitting results of permeability dispersion revealed the relationships among domain wall resonance, spin rotation relaxation mechanisms, and local induced anisotropy. This increase in local inducted anisotropy results in a decrease of initial permeability and an increase of Q-factor. Meanwhile, Co2O3 additive can improve the dielectric constant and the loss tangent (tandeltae) by increasing the oxygen vacancy concentration.

Abstract:Mn-doped NiCuZn ferrites with compositions of (Ni0.25−xMnxCu0.25Zn0.5)O(Fe2O3)0.98 (where x=0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.10) were prepared by usual ceramic method. Initial permeability (μi′ and μi″), DC resistivity (ρDC), dielectric constant (ε′) and dielectric loss tangent (tanδ) were measured as a function of frequency and temperature. With increasing MnO2 content, the resonant frequency and the Curie temperature decrease, whereas the μi′ increases first and decreases after it takes a maximum at MnO2 content of 0.06. The ε′ and tanδ show a decrease with the increase of frequency for all the samples and the dielectric dispersion is enhanced with increasing MnO2 content. On increasing temperature, the ε′ and tanδ are increased significantly, especially for samples with higher MnO2 content. The ρDC and conduction activation energy decrease with the increase of MnO2 content. The possible mechanism for the influence of MnO2 on the electromagnetic properties was discussed.

Abstract:To improve the performance of Ni-Zn ferrites for power field use, the influence of MnO2 additive on the properties of Ni-Zn ferrites was investigated by the conventional powder metallurgy. The results show that MnO2 does not form a visible second phase in the doping mass fraction range of (0-2.0%). The average grain size, sintering density and real permeability gradually decrease with the increase of the MnO2 content. And the DC resistivity continuously increases with the increase of MnO2 content. The saturation magnetization (magnetic moment in unit mass) first increases slightly when mass fraction of MnO2 is less than 0.4% MnO2, and then gradually decreases with increasing the MnO2 mass fraction due to the exchange interaction of the cations. When the excitation frequency is less than 1 MHz, the power loss (Pcv) continuously increases with increasing the MnO2 content due to the decrease of average grain size. However, when the excitation frequency exceeds 1 MHz, eddy current loss gradually becomes the predominant contribution to Pcv. And the sample with a higher resistivity favors a lower Pcv, except for the sample with 2.0% MnO2. The sample without additive has the best Pcv when worked at frequencies less than 1 MHz; and the sample with 1.6% MnO2 additive has the best Pcv when worked at frequencies higher than 1 MHz.
Magnetic Properties of ZnO-doped Cobalt Ferrite

Abstract:The cobalt ferrites with chemical composition Co1+x Zn x Fe2−2x O4 (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4) were obtained with conventional solid reaction. The ZnO-doped samples have lower lattice constant than CoFe2O4 by adjusting Co ions to the octahedral sites. The results show that doping ZnO could extremely improve the magnetic properties. In comparison with pure CoFe2O4, the little ZnO-doped sample has higher permeability and much lower coercivity at the condition of a little decrease of magnetization saturation. Sample with x = 0.1 shows evident magnetostrictive effect at the magnetic field of 30–60 mT while pure cobalt ferrite sample does not, though the saturation magnetostriction decreases. These indicate that ZnO-doping improves the magnetostrictive sensitivity of the cobalt ferrites and have potential applications in magnetoelectric devices and magnetic detector.

Abstract:MnZn power ferrites used for 2-4MHz high frequency switch power supply were prepared by conventional oxide ceramic process.The influence of Fe2O3 content on the core losses of MnZn power ferrites was investigated by means of characterizing the fracture surface micrograph,density and magnetic properties.The results indicated that the average grain size decreases,while the core losses(Pcv) of MnZn power ferrites increase first and decrease subsequently with increasing Fe2O3 content at 3MHz,10mT and room temperature,and especially from 58mol% to 59mol% of Fe2O3 content,the core losses decrease obviously.At high temperature of 100℃,the core losses of MnZn power ferrites gradually decrease with increasing Fe2O3 content.The ratio of residual loss(Pr) and hysteresis loss(Ph) to the total core loss gradually increases and decreases,respectively,and Pr gradually becomes the main part of the core losses,while the ratio of eddy current loss(Pe) to the total core losses changes little with the increase of frequency.

Abstract:MnZn power ferrites were prepared by conventional oxide ceramic technique.Then the influence of ZnO stoichiometry on the temperature dependence of magnetic properties in MnZn power ferrites was investigated at different temperature.The results showed that the initial permeability and saturation magnetic flux density at room temperature initial increased and then decreased with the increase of ZnO content,which reach the maximum when the ZnO content is 12%.Meanwhile,the temperature of secondary maximum peak of μi-T curve and the Curie temperature decrease with the increase of ZnO content. At room temperature,the power loss initially increased and then decreased with the increase of ZnO content,and the temperature of lowest power loss decreased,corresponding with the temperature of secondary maximum peak of μi-T curve at 100 kHz,200 mT.

Toroidal cores were sintered at 1350°C for 4h in N2/O2 atmosphere with 4% oxygen. Then the influence of Co-substitution on the temperature dependence of electromagnetic properties in MnZn ferrites were investigated by measuring the magnetic properties and DC resistivity over a wide temperature ranging from 25 to 120°C. The results show that Co-substitution in MnZn ferrites results in the temperature of secondary maximum peak in the curve of initial permeability versus temperature and the lowest power loss shift to lower temperature. The Curie temperature, resonance frequency, DC resistivity and the activation energy of electron hopping increase with the increase of Co-substitution. Moreover, the drift mobility decreases with the increase of Co-substitution. However, there is little influence of Co-substitution on the microstructure with the increase of Co-substitution.
