Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between central obesity and cardiovascular disease risk factors and aggregation in middle-aged and elderly people with normal body mass index(BMI)in China,so as to provide scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Methods A total of 5 817 middle-aged and elderly people who were aged 45 years and over with normal BMI from the China health and retirement longitudinal study(CHARLS)done in 2015. They were divided into two groups, normal weight central obesity(NWCO)group and normal weight no central obesity(NWNO)group. The differences between the two groups were analyzed. Logistic regression was used to do the multivariate analysis on the influence of central obesity on hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and aggregation. Results The prevalence of NWCO with middle-aged and elderly people was 40.2% in China. The prevalence rates of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and clustering of risk factors in NWCO group were higher than those in NWNO group(P all<0.01). After adjusting for gender, age, marital status, residential area, degree of education, smoking and drinking status, the risk of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and clustering of cardiovascular risk factors in the NWCO group was 1.651times higher than that in the NWNO group(OR=1.651,95%CI:1.461-1.865),1.585 times(OR=1.585,95%CI:1.357-1.851),1.900 times(OR=1.900,95%CI:1.686-2.143)and 2.088 times(OR=2.088,95%CI:1.810-2.407),respectively. Conclusion The prevalence of NWCO is high in middle-aged and elderly people in China.NWCO is risk factor of cardiovascular disease risk factors and aggregation. It is important to control the level of waist circumference in middle-aged and elderly people with normal BMI to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
