Abstract:Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the image quality of solid tumors of liver by organ effective modulation (OEM) in an abdominopelvic CT scan.Method: 37 patients (group 1) received a CT scan with automatic exposure control (AEC), and another 37 patients (group 2) received a CT scan with organ effective modulation (OEM). The images were reconstructed by Iterative Reconstruction (AIDR 3D) separately. Various subjective image quality criteria were rated on a 5-point scale by two radiologists. Objective image quality was assessed quantitatively by using image noise and signal-to-noise (SNR).Results: The volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and the dose length product (DLP) were 11.4% and 12.2% lower in the OEM group, p<0.05. There were no significant differences in subjective or objective image quality (p>0.05), except for the objective image noise of the left liver and right liver in the portal phase increased by 5.1% and 3.2% respectively in the OEM group (p<0.05).Conclusion: OEM technology can effectively reduce the radiation dose of abdominopelvic-enhanced CT without affecting the diagnostic accuracy of solid liver tumors.
