Abstract:Awavelet-collocationscheme,constructedfromthediscretesingularconvolution(DSC)is introduced for computational electromagnetics. The basic philosophy behind the DSCalgorithmisstudied. Fourtestproblems,includingwaveguideanalysisinbothregularandirregulardomains,electromagneticwavescattering,electrostaticfleldestimationviapoten-tialfunctions, andelectromagneticwavepropagationinthreespatialdimensions, areem-ployedtoillustratetheusefulness,testtheaccuracyandexplorethelimitationofthewaveletalgorithm. Computationalaccuracyofthewaveletalgorithmisshowntobecontrollableandiscomparedwithastandardapproach. Numericalexperimentsindicatethattheproposedwaveletalgorithmisapromisingapproachforsolvingproblemsinelectromagnetics. Asanaturalextensiontotheanalyticalapproach,theCEMisbasedonnumericallysolvingthegoverningequationseitherinthepartialdifierentialformorintheintegralequationform.ThecomplexitiesofphysicsandofthefleldgeometryarenolongerthelimitingfactorstoCEMastheyaretotheanalyticalapproach. Withtheadventofhigh-performancedigitalcomputers,CEMisemergingasapowerfulapproachforsolvingpracticalproblemsinelectromagnetics[1,2].Asacomputationaldiscipline,thesuccessoftheCEMisvitallydependentonthevirtuesofcomputationalalgorithms,suchasnumericalaccuracy,stabilityande–ciency.TheseinturndependongridmethodsandnumericalschemesforthesolutionoftheMaxwell’sequations.Typically,gridmethodsusedinCEMareeitherlocal,suchasflnitedifierence(FD)methods[2],orglobal,suchasFourierpseudospectralmethods[3]. Globalmethodsarehighlyaccuratebutarecumbersometoimplementincomplexgeometriesandnon-conventionalboundarycondi-tions.Incontrast,localmethodsareeasytoimplementforcomplexgeometriesanddiscontinuousboundaryconditions.
