Abstract:The study of the history of the Kaifeng Jewish community is first conducted by Western scholars.Those scholars started a systematic study and induced related documents.A few bibliographies on this subject are published in Western languages.However,so far there lacks in Chinese a systematic carding of historical materials relating to the history of the Kaifeng Jewish community,especially those firsthand materials,edited by Chinese scholars.Therefore,many interested Chinese scholars have no idea about what has been done in this field either because they do not have a clear idea of the current situation or because they know very little about those materials.This author believes that an essential bibli ography of the study of the history of the Kaifeng Jewish community should include the following five areas:1)existing documents handed down by the community such as stele and their texts,torah scrolls and other religious books,the Chinese_Hebres Memorial Book,vertical couplets and horizontal tablets,and letters;2)other Chinese historical materials such as official history,local chronicles,and books;3)journals of and interviews by visitors;4)contents of the Bible and Talmud and Drawings;and 5)works by Chinese and foreign scholars.
