Abstract:Objective To investigate the early and mid term clinical outcomes of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for the treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis. Methods The 68 patients(70 knee joints) with medial knee osteoarthritis were randomly divided into UKA group and TKA group. The curative effects were evaluated by operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, hospitalization days,KSS,range of motion (ROM) and forgotten joint score (FJS).Results The patients were followed up for 25~36 months.Compared with TKA group, there were less operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, hospitalization days in UKA group, the differences were significant(P<0.01).Compared with TKA group, the KSS and ROM of UKA were higher at 6 weeks postoperation, the difference was significative(P<0.05).At 6,12,24 months after operation, the FJS was significantly higher in the UKA group, compared with the TKA group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusions UKA is a good treatment method. In contrast to TKA,UKA has some advantages in clinical outcomes.
