Advances in the Pharmacological Treatment of Diabetic Foot

Abstract:Diabetic foot is a common complication in diabetic patients, which can seriously affect the quality of life of diabetic patients. The diabetic foot is associated with diabetic neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease, which may lead to amputation if not managed correctly. Neuropathy, nerve ischemia and infection all play a role in determining whether the lesion heals or worsens, and most diabetic patients have foot ulcers that deteriorate into severe gangrene or infection before amputation. Undertaking scientific pharmacological treatment can improve the ongoing deterioration of the diabetic foot and thus reduce the probability of amputation. This article summarizes the progress of pharmacological treatment about diabetic foot in recent years, including western medicine treatment and Chinese medicine treatment, from three aspects of improving diabetic peripedal neuropathy, microcirculatory disorders, and ulcer healing, to provide pharmacological reference for clinical treatment of diabetic foot.
