Abstract:Heterogeneous cobalt-activated peracetic acid(PAA) is a promising technology for the removal of heterocyclic drugs. However, cobalt-based catalysts reported at present are usually powders, which are difficult to be recycled. Therefore, it is of great significance to construct a recyclable heterogeneous cobalt-based catalyst and its activated PAA system. In this study, the cobalt-loaded ceramic granule catalyst was prepared by impregnation calcination method and the degradation performance of typical heterocyclic drugs in water(sulfamethoxazole(SMX), sulfadiazine(SDZ), carbamazepine(CBZ) and trimethoprim(TMP)) by the ceramic granule-activated PAA system with different influencing factors was systematically investigated. The optimal reaction conditions were 1∶20(V/V) for the volume ratio of cobalt-loaded ceramic granules to reaction solution and PAA concentration of 150 mg·L -1 . When the initial concentration of the heterocyclic drugs was 20 mg·L -1 , the degradation rates of SMX, SDZ, CBZ and TMP were 96.42%, 99.63%, 96.74% and 89.93%, respectively, after 30 minutes of reaction. The coexisting ions in the solution inhibited the degradation of heterocyclic drugs, with the effect as follows: HCO3->NO3-≈SO42-≈Cl-. The concentration of cobalt ion in all solutions was lower than 1mg·L -1 after the reaction, which was in line with the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water of China, but the acute toxicity of the solution by bacterial luminescence assay all increased. The removal rate of heterocyclic drugs except TMP by cobalt-loaded ceramic granules activated PAA system was around 85% after five cycles of use. The results of the radical quenching experiments showed that RO· free radical was the main active species in the process of PAA activation.
