Research on the Historical Materials of the First Advanced Course for Medical History Lecturers in China

Abstract:In 1956,the first advanced course for senior lecturers of medical history was held in Beijing. Thirty-one students from colleges and universities of western medicine all over the country participated in the professional training for a period of 6 months. The scale of the advanced course was unprecedented,both the curriculum and the teaching staff were very considerable. The teaching content covered the history of Chinese medicine,the history of world medicine,the history of Chinese science and technology, the history of Chinese philosophy, the policy of traditional Chinese medicine,the theory of traditional Chinese medicine,the history of the discipline of traditional Chinese medicine and related topics. Teaching forms were rich and diverse,and in addition to classroom lectures,there were literature reading,classroom discussions,expert answers,students ’trial lectures,experience exchanges,field visits and investigations,and so on. On the basis of firsthand historical data,this article reviews the first advanced course for senior lecturers of medical history,analyzes the course’s influence on the development of the discipline of medical history,the teaching and scientific research of medical history and personnel training,and shows the attitude and spirit of rigorous diligence, concentration and persistence, unity and harmony, peace and contentment,dedication and dedication of the older generation of medical historians. The curriculum and teaching form of the course provide a good reference sample for the teaching and training of medical history in the future. The attitude and spirit of the older generation of medical historians can become a lively case of course for the teaching of medical history.
