Abstract:Palladium catalysis under blue (LED) light irradiation allows conversion of NH-sulfoximines into products with long lipophilic side chains attached to the S=N moiety. The three-component reactions involve both radicals and organo-metallic intermediates stemming from alkyl bromides and butadienes. Abstract:Sulfoximines, the isoelectronic with sulfones, represent a class of alternative and intriguing motifs in both discovery program and agrochemistry. N‐Alkylation on imines could significantly improve their bioactivities, but the lack of general method has hindered their further uptake by medicinal chemistry and drug development. Herein, we present a mild photocatalytic anti‐Markovnikov hydroamination of alkenes to construct N‐alkylated sulfoximines with broad substrate tolerance on primary, secondary and tertiary alkyl substituents as well as a diverse range of sulfoximines. The mechanistic studies support the photocatalytic pathway, and demonstrate that the alkene radical cation rather than the iminium radical serves as the key intermediate in the transformation.

Abstract:Herein, we report a visible-light-induced, copper-catalyzed regiodivergent sulfonylation of oxime esters with sodium sulfinates under mild conditions. The aliphatic C(sp3)-H bond in α-aryl-α-alkyl oxime esters reacted via a 1,3-hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) process and affording β-ketosulfones. Meanwhile, γ,δ-unsaturated oxime esters resulted in sulfonyl-functionalized pyrroline via an intramolecular olefin aminosulfonylation and 5-exo-trig cyclization procedure. Notably, this redox-neutral, regiovergent alkyl-SO2R coupling reaction features mild conditions, free from external reducing and oxidizing agents, low catalyst loading, broad substrate compatibility, and good functional group tolerance. Also, the reaction can be scaled up and trifluorobenzoic acid can be recovered. Mechanistic studies combined with computational analysis provide insight into the mechanism and the origins of the substitute-controlled regioselectivity.

Abstract:A rhodium(III)-catalyzed direct C-H alkynylation of a wide range of N-methylsulfoximines with (bromoethynyl)triisopropylsilane has been developed. This protocol is compatible with both (S,S)-diaryl sulfoximines and (S,S)-alkyl aryl sulfoximines, and shows mild conditions, and good functional group tolerance. Abstract:Sulfilimines are valuable compounds in both organic synthesis and pharmaceuticals. In this study, we present a copper-catalyzed sulfur alkylation of sulfenamides with N-sulfonylhydrazones. In contrast to prior findings, hydrazones derived from aldehydes act as donor-type carbene precursors, effectively engaging in coupling with sulfenamides via a copper catalyst, demonstrating exclusive S selectivity. The utility of the protocol was highlighted in the rapid access to a wide range of sulfoximine derivatives.

Abstract:A synthetic method to prepare 1,2‐diamines efficiently that relies on the 4CzPN‐catalysed α ‐aminoalkylation of azomethine imines by secondary and tertiary α ‐silylamines under blue light emitting diode (LED) light (456 nm) is described. Achieved under metal‐ and additive‐free reaction conditions at room temperature, the synthetic protocol was shown to afford product yields up to 99% and applicable to the late‐stage functionalisation of three drug molecules and the gramme‐scale preparation of one example.

Abstract:A novel strategy for the N-arylation of NH-sulfoximines has been developed by merging nickel catalysis and electrochemistry (in an undivided cell), thereby providing a practical method for the construction of sulfoximine derivatives. Paired electrolysis is employed in this protocol, so a sacrificial anode is not required. Owing to the mild reaction conditions, excellent functional group tolerance and yield are achieved. A preliminary mechanistic study indicates that the anodic oxidation of a Ni-II species is crucial to promote the reductive elimination of a C-N bond from the resulting Ni-III species at room temperature.

Abstract:The efficient remote sulfonylation of N-(quinolin-8-yl)benzamide derivatives at the C5 position has been well developed. The reaction generates environmentally benign byproducts by utilizing stable and safe sodium sulfinates as sulfide sources. A series of N-(5-(phenylsulfonyl) quinolin-8-yl) benzamide derivatives were successfully obtained in moderate to high yields. In particular, they are less unpleasantly odorous and more environmentally friendly than previous means.

Abstract:A direct selenylation of N‐arylsulfonamides and anilides using environmentally friendly and readily available copper promoted assisted by amide is presented. This method provided convenient access for various selenylation reactions, demonstrating a wide range of substrates and strong tolerance to various functional groups. According to the selection of reaction substrates, products can be isolated to obtain a regioselectivity ortho‐, para‐, or unprecedented ortho, para‐diselenylation products. Such transformation was elucidated by a proposed copper‐promoted amide‐assisted radical mechanism.

Abstract:An efficient visible-light photocatalytic protocol for the vicinal heteroarylsulfonylation and oximinosulfonylation of unactivated olefins is described. The addition of sulfonyl radicals to alkenes triggers the intramolecular migration of remote heteroaryl and oximino groups via CC bond cleavage. The transformation features a good functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope. A variety of valuable heteroaryl- and oximino-substituted alkyl sulfones are obtained under mild conditions in synthetically useful yields.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced one-pot three-component reaction of cycloketone oxime esters, NH-sulfoximines, and alkenes was developed for the difunctionalization of alkenes. As a result, a series of versatile sulfoximido-cyanoalkylative products were synthesized under mild and sustainable reaction conditions (up to 98% yield). The significance of this protocol was highlighted by excellent regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and excellent synthetic applications.

Abstract:Herein, we developed a direct and effective strategy for the synthesis of sulfur-containing carboxylic acid derivatives through copper/visible light catalyzed ring-opening carbonylation of sulfonium salts. The protocol employs photoredox to promote the selective cleavage of sulfonium salts C( sp 3 )-S bond, while performing sequential functionalization to form vicinal C-C and C-X (X = O or N) bonds in the presence of carbon monoxide and nucleophiles. A variety of substrates were successfully transformed into the desired carbonylated products in moderate to good yields with good functional group tolerance and excellent chemoselectivity. Importantly, this approach can be easily extended to late-stage modification of bioactive molecules.

Abstract:N- Arylation of NH -sulfoximines represents an appealing approach to access N- aryl sulfoximines, but has not been successfully applied to NH -diaryl sulfoximines. Herein, a copper-catalyzed photoredox dehydrogenative Chan-Lam coupling of free diaryl sulfoximines and arylboronic acids is described. This neutral and ligand-free coupling is initiated by ambient light-induced copper-catalyzed single-electron reduction of NH -sulfoximines. This electron transfer route circumvents the sacrificial oxidant employed in traditional Chan-Lam coupling reactions, increasing the environmental friendliness of this process. Instead, dihydrogen gas forms as a byproduct of this reaction. Mechanistic investigations also reveal a unique autocatalysis process. The C–N coupling products, N- arylated sulfoximines, serve as ligands along with NH -sulfoximine to bind to the copper species, generating the photocatalyst. DFT calculations reveal that both the NH -sulfoximine substrate and the N -aryl product can ligate the copper accounting for the observed autocatalysis. Two energetically viable stepwise pathways were located wherein the copper facilitates hydrogen atom abstraction from the NH -sulfoximine and the ethanol solvent to produce dihydrogen. The protocol described herein represents an appealing alternative strategy to the classic oxidative Chan-Lam reaction, allowing greater substrate generality as well as the elimination of byproduct formation from oxidants.
