Abstract:Based on first-principles, BP/Cu(1 1 1) with big cohesion can be widely used in micro/nano electromechanical systems. However, the oxidation and wear of Cu substrate are inevitable, which may result in the coexistence of BP/Cu(111) (BP/CuxOy (y = 0)), BP/CuxOy (y &NOTEQUexpressionL;0), and BP/CuxOy (y&NOTEQUexpressionL; 0) interface. Although BP/Cu(111) with ultra-low friction is presented, its friction property is degraded about 12.5 times when BP/CuxOy (y &NOTEQUexpressionL; 0) interface is formed by oxidation. However, the friction property above is restored about 2.5 times when BP/ CuxOy (y&NOTEQUexpressionL;/ 0) interface is formed by wear. Interestingly, the critical load of BP/CuxOy (y = 0 and y =/ 0) is observed in the positive/negative load regions, which leads to the interface superlubricity behavior theoreti-cally. Ordinarily, the interface superlubricity behavior results mainly from the flat PES at the critical load, which is mainly controlled by the electrostatic action. Importantly, there is a competition mechanism between the critical load of superlubricity and of wear for BP/CuxOy (y &NOTEQUexpressionL; 0), where superlubricity can be realized only when the load of former is smaller than one of latter. And, BP/Cu(111) with ultra-low friction will be presented gradually once the interface wear of BP/CuxOy (y&NOTEQUexpressionL;0) starts. In conclusion, BP/CuxOy (y&NOTEQUexpressionL; 0) with superlubricity and anti-wear property may be applied to a variety of harsh environments and serves as an important reference for the oriented design of materials.
