Abstract:The temporal and spatial change of sound velocity has a significant impact on underwater positioning accuracy. Firstly, an observation equation containing sound velocity perturbation is constructed based on the theory of acoustic ray tracking, and the space-time structure of sound velocity is modeled using cubic B-spline curves. After that, an approach built around minimal norm is used to select the optimal hyper-parameter, and we get the joint estimation of transponder coordinates and the spatial-temporal variation of sound velocity. This method was applied to analyze the acoustic ranging data collected at a depth over 3000 m in July 2019. The results show that the greatest discrepancy between the three data sets in E/N/U components is 0. 391, 0. 035, and 0.120 m, respectively, and the square root of variance of the coordinate was better than 10 cm. The temporal variation of sound velocity is less than 1 m center dot s (1), demonstrating clear diurnal variation and short-period fluctuation induced by internal waves. The sound velocity spatial fluctuation is less than 0. 1 m center dot s (1), and the spatial gradient is less than 0. 04 m center dot s (1) center dot km (1). The inconsistencies in positioning results for different data sets may be caused by the periodic change of sound velocity.
