Abstract:As asset-intensive companies, electric power companies take high attention on asset management, in which maintenance management of electric equipments is essential. Concerning this problem, this paper proposed a new technology-Risk Assessment Based Maintenance Management for Electric Equipment. Nowadays, maintenance decision-making is always based on equipment condition in the electric power companies. However, this way of decision-making is not economic optimal for the company. The Maintenance workers know the equipment condition, but they don't realize Equipment's status in the whole system. As a result, this way of decision-making may cause security hazards to power systems, or cause unnecessary economic loss to the companies. The new risk assessment based technology proposed in this paper applies risk theory in the maintenance management of electric equipment. With the help of risk assessment theory, the new technology evaluates the risk of equipment accurately and comprehensively. Then, the technology proposes a new way of decision-making for equipment maintenance, which can achieve economic optimum for electric power companies. In risk assessment, we divide equipment risk into four parts: equipment self-damage risk, personal and environmental risk, social risk and system risk. Equipment self-damage risk evaluates self-damage caused by equipment failure, which includes equipment replacement cost and repair cost. Maintenance level LM is defined to describe the severity of self-damage. Personal and environmental risk evaluates personal and environmental loss caused by equipment failure. Personal loss level LP and environmental loss level L E are defined to describe the severity of personal loss and environmental loss. Social risk evaluates loss of customers caused by power failure. A method based on the ratio of output value to unit electric energy consumption is used. To calculate social risk, we must know the lost power load, the duration of power failure and the ratio of output value to unit electric energy consumption in the region. System risk is the most difficult part to calculate. It evaluates the added severity caused by equipment failure. System risk is a kind of underlying contributor to economic loss, which makes it hard to calculate. In this paper, we analyze system risk from four aspects, which are overload, voltage out-of-limit, voltage collapse and cascading. A series of algorithms are proposed to achieve quantitative analysis of system risk. Besides risk theory, interval analysis is used to meet the uncertainty of model parameters. In maintenance decision-making, we answer two questions: whether equipment repair is needed and which equipment should be repaired first. For the first question, we proposed a method to determine the level of maintenance according to equipment condition. In this method, a few criterions of equipment failure probability are given, and we compare actual equipment failure probability with them to determine the level of maintenance. For the second question, we proposed a risk-ranking method to determine the order of maintenance. At last, we choose a regional power grid to illustrate the use of the mentioned method. Of all kinds of electric equipments, only lines and transformers are taken into account. The new technology is used for maintenance management of these equipments. From the analysis results, we find the new technology valid and effective.
