Abstract:Late marriage of the massive agricultural transfer population driven by rapid urbanization has gradually attracted academic attention. Based on push-pull theory, this paper reveals the probability of first marriage and its influencing factors concerning urbanization at micro and macro levels among agricultural transfer population by utilizing Cox proportional risk model analyzing the ‘Hundred Villages Survey’ in 2018 and the selected national economic data. The results are as follows:(1) The time of first labor out-migration has a positive impact on the first marriage possibility for both sexes, while the distance of labor out-migration away from hometown has a significant negative impact;(2) Farming has a significant positive effect, especially for women, and annual agricultural income has a positive effect on men’s first marriage possibility;(3) Value of a house in countryside and property ownership at township have significant impacts on the possibility of first marriage;(4) The longer distance from township, the lower the possibility of men’s first marriage. Geographical location, proportion of tertiary industry, per capita GDP and residential consumer price index have significant effects on the possibility of first marriage for both sexes, and the possibility of first marriage decreases with the development of local economy. Accordingly, optimizing individual working pattern, improving domestic and local urbanization level and providing appropriate housing allowance for low-income people helps increasing the first marriage possibility of agricultural transfer population.
