Abstract:We study elliptic curves of the form x(3) + y(3) = 2p and x(3) + y(3) = 2p(2) where p is any odd prime satisfying p equivalent to 2 mod 9 or p equivalent to 5 mod 9. We first show that the 3-part of the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture holds for these curves. Then we relate their 2-Selmer group to the 2-rank of the ideal class group of Q((3)root p) to obtain some examples of elliptic curves with rank one and non-trivial 2-part of the Tate-Shafarevich group.

Abstract:In the present paper, we prove, for a large class of elliptic curves defined over $\mathbb{Q}$, the existence of an explicit infinite family of quadratic twists with analytic rank $0$. In addition, we establish the $2$-part of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer for many of these infinite families of quadratic twists. Recently, Xin Wan has used our results to prove for the first time the full Birch--Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for some explicit infinite families of elliptic curves defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ without complex multiplication.

Abstract:We study infinite families of quadratic and cubic twists of the elliptic curve $E = X_0(27)$. For the family of quadratic twists, we establish a lower bound for the $2$-adic valuation of the algebraic part of the value of the complex $L$-series at $s=1$, and, for the family of cubic twists, we establish a lower bound for the $3$-adic valuation of the algebraic part of the same $L$-value. We show that our lower bounds are precisely those predicted by the celebrated conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer.

Abstract:In the present paper, we generalize the celebrated classical lemma of Birch and Heegner on quadratic twists of elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$. We prove the existence of explicit infinite families of quadratic twists with analytic ranks $0$ and $1$ for a large class of elliptic curves, and use Heegner points to explicitly construct rational points of infinite order on the twists of rank $1$. In addition, we show that these families of quadratic twists satisfy the $2$-part of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture when the original curve does. We also prove a new result in the direction of the Goldfeld conjecture.

Abstract:We formulate analogues of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for the $p$-adic $L$-functions of Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna attached to elliptic curves $E/\mathbf{Q}$ at primes $p$ of good ordinary reduction. Using Iwasawa theory, we then prove under mild hypotheses one of the inequalities predicted by the rank part of our conjectures, as well as the predicted leading coefficient formula up to a $p$-adic unit. Our conjectures are very closely related to conjectures of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer type formulated by Bertolini-Darmon in 1996 for certain Heegner distributions, and as application of our results we also obtain the proof of an inequality in the rank part of their conjectures.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a modular abelian surface over $Q$ which either has trivial geometric endomorphism ring, or arises as the restriction of scalars of an elliptic curve over an imaginary quadratic field which is modular and is not a $Q$-curve. In the former case, assume that there exists an odd Dirichlet character $\chi$ such that $L(A,\chi,1)\neq 0$. We prove the following implication: if $L(A, 1) \ne 0$, and the $p$-adic eigenvariety for $GSp_4$ is smooth at the point corresponding to $A$ (and some auxiliary technical hypotheses hold), then $A(Q)$ is finite, as predicted by the Birch--Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, and the $p$-part of the Tate--Shafarevich group is also finite. We also prove one inclusion of the cyclotomic Iwasawa Main Conjecture for $A$. Moreover, we also prove analogous results for cohomological automorphic representations of $GSp_4$, removing many of the restrictive hypotheses in our earlier work [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2003.05960" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.05960">2003.05960</a>]; for cohomological representations we do not need to assume smoothness of the eigenvariety, since it is automatic in this case. The main ingredient in the proof is the Euler system attached to the spin representations of genus $2$ Siegel modular forms constructed in our earlier work with Skinner.

Abstract:Let $E/F$ be an elliptic curve defined over a number field $F$ with complex multiplication by the ring of integers of an imaginary quadratic field $K$ such that the torsion points of $E$ generate over $F$ an abelian extension of $K$. In this paper we prove the $p$-part of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer formula for $E/F$ in analytic rank $1$ for primes $p>3$ split in $K$. This was previously known for $F=\mathbb{Q}$ by work of Rubin as a consequence of his proof of the Mazur--Swinnerton-Dyer ``main conjecture'' for rational CM elliptic curves, but the problem remained wide open for general $F$. The approach in this paper, based on a novel application of an idea of Bertolini--Darmon--Prasanna to consider a carefully chosen decomposable Rankin--Selberg convolution of two CM modular forms having the Hecke $L$-function of interest as one of the factors, circumvents the use of $p$-adic heights and Bertrand's $p$-adic transcendence results in previous approaches. It also yields a proof of similar results for CM abelian varieties $A/K$, and for CM modular forms of higher weight.

Abstract:Let E be an elliptic curve defined over Q with complex multiplication. For a prime p, some formulas for a(p) = p + 1 - #E(F-p) are given in terms of the binomial coefficients. We show that the equality a(p) = r holds for some fixed integer r if and only if a certain quadratic polynomial represents the prime p. In particular, for E : y(2) = x(3) + x, a(p) = 2 holding for an odd prime p if and only if p is of the form n(2) + 1 and for E : y(2) = x(3) - 11x + 14, a(p) = 2 holding for an odd prime p if and only if p is of the form (4n)(2) + 1; a(p) = -2 holding for an odd prime p if and only if p is of the form (4n + 2)(2) + 1. In some CM cases the Lang-Trotter conjecture and the Hardy-Littlewood conjecture are equivalent.
On the prime Selmer ranks of cyclic prime twist families of elliptic curves over global function fields

Abstract:Fix a prime number $p$. Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be a finite field of characteristic coprime to 2, 3, and $p$, which also contains the primitive $p$-th root of unity $\mu_p$. Based on the works by Swinnerton-Dyer and Klagsbrun, Mazur, and Rubin, we prove that the probability distribution of the sizes of prime Selmer groups over a family of cyclic prime twists of non-isotrivial elliptic curves over $\mathbb{F}_q(t)$ satisfying a number of mild constraints conforms to the distribution conjectured by Bhargava, Kane, Lenstra, Poonen, and Rains with explicit error bounds. The key tools used in proving these results are the Riemann hypothesis over global function fields, the Erdös-Kac theorem, and the geometric ergodicity of Markov chains.

Abstract:Let $E/\mathbf{Q}$ be an elliptic curve and $p\geq 3$ be a prime. We prove the $p$-converse theorems for elliptic curves of potentially good ordinary reduction at Eisenstein primes (i.e., such that the residual representation $E[p]$ is reducible) when the $p$-Selmer rank is $0$ or $1$. The key step is to obtain the anticyclotomic Iwasawa Main Conjectures for an auxiliary imaginary quadratic field $K$ where $E$ does not have CM similar to those in [CGLS22] and descent to $\mathbf{Q}$. As an application we get improved proportions for the number of elliptic curves in quadratic twist families having rank $0$ or $1$.

Abstract:The proof of the Main Conjecture in Iwasawa theory by Mazur and Wiles implies that the Birch-Tate conjecture #K2(OF) = w2(F)|ζF(−1)| is true up to 2-torsion for real abelian number fields. In the present paper the even part of the Birch-Tate conjecture is verified for cyclic number fields F with odd prime degree p if the order of 2 mod p is even, 2 is inertial in F and the class number h(F) of F is odd.

Abstract:We prove several results on torsion points and Galois representations for complex multiplication (CM) elliptic curves over a number field containing the CM field. One result computes the degree in which such an elliptic curve has a rational point of order $N$, refining results of Silverberg. Another result bounds the size of the torsion subgroup of an elliptic curve with CM by a nonmaximal order in terms of the torsion subgroup of an elliptic curve with CM by the maximal order. Our techniques also yield a complete classification of both the possible torsion subgroups and the rational cyclic isogenies of a $K$-CM elliptic curve $E$ defined over $K(j(E))$.

Abstract:We define the notion of special automorphisms on Shimura curves. Using this notion, for a wild class of elliptic curves defined over Q, we get rank one quadratic twists by discriminants having any prescribed number of prime factors. Finally, as an application, we obtain some new results on Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) conjecture for the rank one quadratic twists of the elliptic curve X 0(49).

Abstract:Consider elliptic curves $ E:\ y^{2} = x^{3} + D^{3} $ defined over the quadratic field $\ \Q(\sqrt{-3}) $. Hecke $ L-$series attached to $ E $ are studied, formulae for their values at $ s=1, $ and bound of 3-adic valuations of these values are given. These results are complementary to those in [Q] and [QZ], and are consistent with the predictions of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer.

Abstract:Given an elliptic curve E and a prime p of (good) supersingular reduction, we formulate p-adic analogues of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture using a pair of Iwasawa functions L^\sharp(E,T) and L^\flat(E,T). They are equivalent to the conjectures of Perrin-Riou and Bernardi. We also generalize work of Kurihara and Pollack to give a criterion for positive rank in terms of the value of the quotient between these functions, and derive a result towards a non-vanishing conjecture. We also generalize a conjecture of Kurihara and Pollack concerning the greatest common divisor of the two functions to the general supersingular case.

Abstract:In this paper we refine recent work due to A. Shankar, A. N. Shankar, and X. Wang on counting elliptic curves by conductor to the case of elliptic curves with a rational 2-torsion point. This family is a small family, as opposed to the large families considered by the aforementioned authors. We prove the analogous counting theorem for elliptic curves with so-called square-free index as well as for curves with suitably bounded Szpiro ratios. We note that our assumptions on the size of the Szpiro ratios is less stringent than would be expected by the naive generalization of their approach.
