Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) possess the advantages of high safety, low cost, and environmental friendliness, but the lack of cathode material candidates is restricting the development of high-performance AZIBs. Transition metal disulfides (TMDs) have been deemed promising cathode materials for AZIBs recently, yet TMD-based cathodes are troubled by unstable structures and sluggish ion/electron transport, which calls for the collaboration of reliable, elaborate material structure designs and subtle chemical modification techniques. In this work, we develop a simulation-assisted modularized material design protocol consisting of a structure design module based on finite element method (FEM) simulation and a subsequent chemical modification module through alien atom doping. We employ MoS2 as a case to investigate the validity of this protocol, and the obtained phosphorus-doped MoS2 nanotubes (PMSTs) exhibit improved cycling stability and rate capability than that of pure MoS2 nanotubes and self-aggregated MoS2. We also employ ex situ measures to investigate the Zn-storage mechanism of P-MST and prove its application potential via quasi-solid-state zinc-ion battery tests. This work provides a new perspective for the rational design of advanced TMD-based AZIB cathodes.
