Abstract:The subject of fractional calculus (that is, the calculus of integrals and derivatives of any arbitrary real or complex order) has gained considerable popularity and importance during the past over four decades, due mainly to its demonstrated applications in numerous seemingly diverse and widespread fields of mathematical, physical, engineering and statistical sciences. Various operators of fractional-order derivatives as well as fractional-order integrals do indeed provide several potentially useful tools for solving differential and integral equations, and various other problems involving special functions of mathematical physics as well as their extensions and generalizations in one and more variables. The main object of this survey-cum-expository article is to present a brief elementary and introductory overview of the theory of the integral and derivative operators of fractional calculus and their applications especially in developing solutions of certain interesting families of ordinary and partial fractional "differintegral" equations. This general talk will be presented as simply as possible keeping the likelihood of non-specialist audience in mind.

Abstract:During the past four decades or so, various operators of fractional calculus, such as those named after Riemann–Liouville, Weyl, Hadamard, Grunwald–Letnikov, Riesz, Erdelyi–Kober, Liouville–Caputo, and so on, have been found to be remarkably popular and important due mainly to their demonstrated applications in numerous diverse and widespread fields of the mathematical, physical, chemical, engineering, and statistical sciences. Many of these fractional calculus operators provide several potentially useful tools for solving differential, integral, differintegral, and integro-differential equations, together with the fractional-calculus analogues and extensions of each of these equations, and various other problems involving special functions of mathematical physics, as well as their extensions and generalizations in one and more variables. In this Special Issue, we invite and welcome review, expository, and original research articles dealing with the recent advances in the theory of fractional calculus and its multidisciplinary applications.

Abstract:In a fairly large number of recent works, one can indeed find remarkable and convincing demonstrations of the usefulness of certain fractional differintegral operators in the derivation of (explicit) particular solutions of various classes of linear ordinary and partial differential equations of the second and higher orders. The main purpose of the present sequel to these earlier works is to investigate, systematically and in a unified manner, some general families of fractional differintegral equations. Relevant connections of members of these families with the linear ordinary and partial differential equations, which were considered in some of the aforementioned earlier works, are also indicated.

Abstract:This survey-cum-expository review article is motivated essentially by the widespread usages of the operators of fractional calculus (that is, fractional-order integrals and fractional-order derivatives) in the modeling and analysis of a remarkably large variety of applied scientific and real-world problems in mathematical, physical, biological, engineering and statistical sciences, and in other scientific disciplines. On new types of fractional operators and applications

Abstract:We introduce two kinds of fractional integral operators; the one is defined via the exponential-integral function $$ E_1(x)=\int_x^\infty \frac{e^{-t}}{t}\,dt,\quad x>0, $$ and the other is defined via the special function $$ \mathcal{S}(x)=e^{-x} \int_0^\infty \frac{x^{s-1}}{\Gamma(s)}\,ds,\quad x>0. $$ We establish different properties of these operators, and we study the relationship between the fractional integrals of first kind and the fractional integrals of second kind. Next, we introduce a new concept of fractional derivative of order $\alpha>0$, which is defined via the fractional integral of first kind. Using an approximate identity argument, we show that the introduced fractional derivative converges to the standard derivative in $L^1$ space, as $\alpha\to 0^+$. Several other properties are studied, like fractional integration by parts, the relationship between this fractional derivative and the fractional integral of second kind, etc. As an application, we consider a new fractional model of the relaxation equation, we establish an existence and uniqueness result for this model, and provide an iterative algorithm that converges to the solution.

Abstract:This article provides a brief review of recent developments on two nonlocal operators: fractional Laplacian and fractional time derivative. We start by accounting for several applications of these operators in imaging science, geophysics, harmonic maps and deep (machine) learning. Various notions of solutions to linear fractional elliptic equations are provided and numerical schemes for fractional Laplacian and fractional time derivative are discussed. Special emphasis is given to exterior optimal control problems with a linear elliptic equation as constraints. In addition, optimal control problems with interior control and state constraints are considered. We also provide a discussion on fractional deep neural networks, which is shown to be a minimization problem with fractional in time ordinary differential equation as constraint. The paper concludes with a discussion on several open problems.

Abstract:In recent years, various operators of fractional calculus (that is, calculus of integrals and derivatives of arbitrary real or complex orders) have been investigated and applied in many remarkably diverse fields. The main object of this paper is to consider some miscellaneous properties and applications which are associated with several fractional differintegral operators. We first investigate, in a systematic and unified manner, various families of series identities which emerged in connection with some of these fractional differintegral formulas. By using such operators of fractional calculus, a number of integral formulas as well as fractional differintegral formulas involving inverse hyperbolic functions are also evaluated.

Abstract:One of the main objects of this paper is to show that, in recent years, there is an on-going trend toward extensions and generalizations of known and readily accessible definitions and results by introducing some obviously redundant and seemingly inconsequential parameters or by changing the variable of integration in an integral definition. In particular, we investigate and closely examine the so-called k-gamma function and the corresponding k-Pochhammer symbol and k-Laplace transform, the pathway integral version and the conformable or non-conformable version as well as the so-called (k, 0 -extension of the operators of the traditional Riemanu-Liouville fractional calculus and such other familiar operators of fractional calculus as the Liouville-Caputo fractional derivative operator, the Sumudu transform and the P-delta-version of the classical Laplace transform, the so-called post-quantum or, briefly, the (p, q)-version of the familiar basic or quantum (or q-) analysis, the parametric variation of the Bessel and related functions, and so on. We also look into the current literature which is full of repeated or translational usages of the classical Laplace transform operator L in order to successfully solve initial-value problems involving ordinary and partial differential equations. Finally, in the concluding section, we present some recent developments and potential directions for further researches which can be based upon a certain general non-trivial family of the Riemann-Liouville type fractional integrals and fractional derivatives.

Abstract:Fractional calculus is at this stage an arena where many models are still to be introduced, discussed and applied to real world applications in many branches of science and engineering where nonlocality plays a crucial role. Although researchers have already reported many excellent results in several seminal monographs and review articles, there are still a large number of non-local phenomena unexplored and waiting to be discovered. Therefore, year by year, we can discover new aspects of the fractional modeling and applications. This review article aims to present some short summaries written by distinguished researchers in the field of fractional calculus. We believe this incomplete, but important, information will guide young researchers and help newcomers to see some of the main real-world applications and gain an understanding of this powerful mathematical tool. We expect this collection will also benefit our community.

Abstract:Fractals, Ahead of Print. This research paper introduces a novel formulation of the modified Atangana–Baleanu (AB) Fractional Operators (FrOs). The paper begins by discussing the boundedness of the novel fractional derivative operator. Some fractional differential equations corresponding to different choices of functions as well as comparative graphical representations of a function and its derivative are provided. Furthermore, the paper investigates the generalized Laplace transform for this newly introduced operator. By employing the generalized Laplace transform, a wide range of fractional differential equations can be effectively solved. Additionally, the paper establishes the corresponding form of the AB Caputo fractional integral operator, examines its boundedness and obtains its Laplace transform. It is worth noting that the FrOs previously documented in the existing literature can be derived as special cases of these recently explored FrOs.

Abstract:An ancient topic as this paper focuses on, some innovative insightful interesting observations are surely provided. On one hand, by expanding the range of integration order in Riemann-Liouville derivative and Caputo derivative, a new type of definitions are given for fractional order derivatives. On the other hand, a novel representation based on Taylor series is formulated, which is helpful to unravel some uncanny feature and handle some hard issues. The advantage of the proposed results lies in that a deeper understanding of fractional order calculus is achieved and it facilitates the relevant application. Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the generalized left-side and right-side fractional integral operators with a certain modified ML kernel. We investigate the Chebyshev inequality via this general family of fractional integral operators. Moreover, we derive new results of this type of inequalities for finite products of functions. In addition, we establish an estimate for the Chebyshev functional by using the new fractional integral operators. From our above-mentioned results, we find similar inequalities for some specialized fractional integrals keeping some of the earlier results in view. Furthermore, two important results and some interesting consequences for convex functions in the framework of the defined class of generalized fractional integral operators are established. Finally, two basic examples demonstrated the significance of our results.
