Abstract:In Figure 1 b and 1 c of this Communication, the structures of compounds 7 a and 7 b should be corrected. In fact, unexpected and expeditious isomerization of the conjugated triene (7 a/7 b in the original Communication) to a more stable triene (7 a′/7 b′; see below) took place under basic conditions. These trienes display similar nOe correlations before and after isomerization.1 Therefore, the reactivity experiments detailed in the original Communication were actually performed with the more stable 7 a′/7 b′ and the results reported do not reflect the reactivity of 7 a/7 b. The authors appreciate being made aware of this issue by a recent publication from Snyder and co-workers,2 and the structures have been confirmed by the authors in their recent synthetic work towards other lindenane dimers (unpublished results). Accordingly, the biosynthetic hypothesis involving a conjugated triene intermediate (7 a in the original Communication) towards lindenane [4+2] dimers, originally proposed by Kawabata and co-workers, and their structural assignment of 7 a,3 still deserves consideration. This Corrigendum does not affect the main contents and conclusions of the original Communication.
