Abstract:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C14H11NO3, isolated from the reaction of 2-bromo-1-phenylethanone and pyridine-4-carboxylic acid using triethylamine as a base to deprotonate the organic acid, the molecular packing is stabilized by C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions involving the phenyl and pyridine rings. The C-C-O-C torsion angle for the linkage between the two carbonyl groups is -80.8(2)degrees, and the planes of the phenyl and pyridyl rings form a dihedral angle of 65.8 (1)degrees.

Abstract:In the title compound, C21H19N3O2S2, there are intramolecular hydrogen bonds and steric strain. Hydrogen bonds involving the amide groups and the pyridine N atoms force the two carboxamide groups and the central pyridine ring into the same plane (r. m. s. deviation = 0.054 Angstrom). Steric strain between the two methylsulfanyl substituents results in the benzene rings of the two arms of the ligand being inclined to one another by 45.23 (9) degrees. In the crystal structure, intermolecular C-H...O interactions are present and lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network.

Abstract:In the title compound, C24H17N2O4+·NO3−·0.25H2O, the central pyridine ring of the 2′,6′-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4′-bipyridin-1-ium cation is almost coplanar with one benzene ring [dihedral angle = 1.03 (5)°], while it makes dihedral angles of 9.59 (5)° with the other benzene ring and 13.66 (6)° with the pyridinium ring.
