Abstract:The biomolecular materials offer tremendous application prospects of memristive devices for their low-cost production, environmental friendliness, and especially biocompatibility. Herein, the biocompatible memristive devices based on amyloid related materials with tunable conductivity have been investigated. The memristors exhibit great electrical performance, e.g., ultra-high Roff/Ron ratio (> 107), low switching voltage (< 0.8 V), and reliable reproducibility. Additionally, the reversible transition from threshold switching to resistive switching mode has been achieved in this work. The arrangements of peptides in amyloid fibrils endow the surface polarity and phenylalanine packing inside, which is beneficial for connection of conductive filaments in the memristors. Modulation of voltage pulse signals imitated the synaptic behavior of excitatory postsynaptic current, paired-pulse facilitation, spike-timing-dependent plasticity, and the transition from short-term plasticity to long-term plasticity. More interestingly, the Boole logic standard cells using the memristive devices have been designed and simulated. The fundamental and experimental results of this work explore the utilization of biomolecular materials in brain-inspired memristive devices.
