Abstract:In the context of China's dual goals of achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality, it is important to explore the net carbon sink of conservation tillage in China to mitigate global warming and achieve these goals. Starting with an exploration of carbon seques?tration and emissions of agricultural conservation tillage technology, this study measured the net carbon sink of conservation tillage in each province of China from 2000 to 2019 at three levels:soil carbon sequestration, biological carbon sequestration, and greenhouse gas emissions. Exploratory spatial data analysis was applied to reveal the characteristics of its spatial and temporal pattern evolution . The geographic probe method was used to explore the driving forces affecting the spatial divergence of the net carbon sink of conservation tillage in three dimensions:agricultural resources, socio-economics, and the natural environment. The results showed that:① The net carbon sink of conservation tillage in China was increasing year by year, but there were differences in the net carbon sink and increase in different regions and different measures. The net carbon sink was the largest in the central region, followed by the western and east?ern regions, and that of the northeastern region was the least. The net carbon sink and the increase of straw return were larger than those of no-tillage farming measures.②The spatial distribution pattern was high in the north and low in the south, high in the west and low in the east, and showed the evolutionary characteristics of 'narrowing the difference between east and west and widening the difference be?tween north and south.' At the same time, there was a positive spatial correlation and the hot and cold spots were clearly partitioned, i.e., the spatial differentiation was significant.③The spatial variation of the net carbon sink of conservation tillage was strongly driven by the agricultural machinery level, the economic development level, the conservation tillage promotion intensity, and sunshine. The re?sults of interaction detection showed that the two-factor interaction was stronger than the single-factor interaction. The interaction of‘conservation tillage promotion intensity+other factors ' was prominent in the early stage of technology promotion, while the interaction of 'economic development level+other factors ' and 'education+other factors ' gradually appeared in the later stage. It is hoped that the findings of the study can provide a reference for optimizing the promotion policies of conservation tillage technology and achieving the dual goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
