Abstract:Understanding the microscopic hydrate phase transition process is of crucial importance to hydrate-based techniques. This process is nevertheless significantly limited by the insufficient enrichment of hydrophobic gas molecules in the solution. Here in this work, ultrasonic technology was applied to generate stable and large amount of nanobubbles in pure water to promote hydrate formation kinetics. The stable presence of nanobubbles was found to shorten the hydrate foramtion induction time by enhancing the mass transfer process, increasing the nucleation sites and the gas-liquid contact area. The particle size distribution of the nanobubbles was following the normal distribution, with the concentration of 10 9 ml -1 and the diameter concentrated in 100 nm-120 nm. The concentration of the nanobubbles increased with the ultrasonic duration and power. The effect of nanobubbles on the induction time of hydrate formation was further analyzed by forming from the nanobubble solution with different concentrations and particle size distributions. Consequently, the mechanism of memory effect was analyzed by comparing the behavior of formation from hydrate decomposition solution and nanobubble solution. The findings could provide a new approach to enhance the dissolution of gas into the water and thereby promote the hydrate formation kinetics.
