Abstract:Objective: To explore the significance of headup tilt table test (HUTT) in the diagnosis of patients with unexplained syncope (UPS) in different age and genders. Methods: One hundred and fortynine vasovagal syncope(VVS) patients (male 57, female 92) aged from 4 to 70 years old 〔mean(26.78±16.34)years〕 were made HUTT in 70 degree with electric power tilt table. A multifunctional monitor was used for the measurement of changes of blood pressure and electrocardiogram automatically every 5 minutes. The results of HUTT were evaluated. SPSS11.0 software was used for the statistic analysis of these data. Results: The positive rate of HUTT was 38.26% (57/149 cases) in patients of UPS, and in the female patients it was 82.46% (47/57 cases). The syncope episodes occurred after standing for 245 minutes 〔mean (22.74±14.07 ) minutes〕, and there was no difference in ≤18 years and 18 years subgroups 〔(20.07±14.10)minutes vs.(25.31±13.10)minutes, P0.05〕. The blood vessel inhibited type of reaction occurred in 66.67% (38/57 cases) , heart inhibited type in 22.81%(13/57 cases) and mixed type in 10.52% (6/57 cases). The occurrence was not related to ages(P0.05). The blood vessel inhibited type was common in female (57.9%, P0.005). When HUTT was ended, the end heart rate, end systolic pressure and end diastolic pressure were decreased obviously in the positive than in negative patients(P0.05 or P0.01). The end heart rate, end systolic pressure and end diastolic pressure in male were lower than those in female in positive group(all P0.05). The beginning systolic pressure and beginning diastolic pressure were decreased (both P0.05), the end systolic pressure and end diastolic pressure were more lightly decreased(both P0.05) and the heart rate more increased a little bit in ≤18 years subgroup than in 18 years subgroup in positive group (both P0.05). The beginning and end diastolic pressures as well as systolic pressure were slightly raised in both ≤18 years and 18 years subgroups in negative group (all P0.01). Conclusion: HUTT is an effectively diagnostic method in VVS. There is no difference in different age groups in Chinese. The positive rate in female is higher, and it mainly shows blood vessel inhibited type. The heart rate and blood pressure are decreased more obviously in male than in female.
