Abstract:Carbon foams (CFs) reveal superior properties such as high conductivity, low density, and chemical/thermal inertness and have been applied in various fields. However, it remains a critical challenge to construct CFs with desired structures and lattice integrity of the skeleton in industrially available and environmentally friendly manners. Based on capillary forces, here we demonstrated a liquid-phase sewing strategy to construct CFs directly from flake graphite under ambient conditions through chemical expansion. The crystalline integrity of the building block graphene is well inherited from the defect-free flake graphite, leading to a highly conductive pathway in CFs. Consequently, CFs display a high-performance electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of 112 dB at a very low areal density of 2.0 mg cm(-2). Our method features economic efficiency and scalability and is promising for real industrial applications of CFs.
