Abstract:High efficiency all phosphorescent white electroluminescence was realized by double doping of blue-light-emitting bis(2-(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,C2') picolinate (Flrpic) and red iridium complex Ir(DMFPQ)(2)pbm into conjugated polymer host poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO). Effects of hole-transport layer (HTL) on the performances of white polymer light-emitting diodes (WPLEDs) were investigated. First of all, PVK as the HTL was essential, because the back energy transfer from Flrpic to PFO caused by the low-lying triplet energy level of PFO was suppressed by PVK. Furthermore, performances of the WPLEDs were enhanced by introducing CBP into PVK owing to improved balance of electron and hole current. The resulting all phosphorescent WPLEDs have a peak luminous efficiency of 15.5 cd/A and a peak power efficiency of 6 lm/W. Commisssion Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.41, 0.38) were realized at a current density of 18 mA/cm(2). The obtaining of the efficient all phosphorescent white electroluminescence with PFO as host polymer will broaden the approaches of white light generation and be a big promote for the application of phosphorescent WPLEDs. Abstract:White light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are very important energy-saving lighting devices. It is still a big challenge to fabricate pure white LEDs using low-cost, easy-to-process and environment-friendly phosphors. Herein, we report a pure white LED fabricated by combining rationally designed fluorescein-centered polymers with a blue LED chip. Pure white LEDs with Commission International de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.33), a satisfactory color rendering index (CRI) of 82 and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5230 K were achieved. Covalently embedding fluorescein into the center of the polymer chain realized molecular dispersion of fluorescein. Of significance, by varying the types of the side groups of the polymer, the fluorescence properties of the embedded fluorescein unit can be regulated. The performance parameters (i.e., emission spectra, CIE coordinates, CRI and CCT) of the as-fabricated LEDs could also be tailored by varying the working voltages, and the types and amounts of fluorescein-centered polymers.

Abstract:A new kind of carbon dots based phosphor is developed for light emitting diodes (LED) by adsorbing carbon dots to starch particles. The bonding mechanism is based on hydrogen bonding of surface functional groups of carbon dots and starch particles. Aggregation-induced quenching is avoided and the thermal stability of the carbon dots phosphor is enhanced. The carbon dots phosphor is used as color convert material for white LED devices. The white LED device fabricated has an ultra-high color rendering index of 93.9, almost pure white CIE coordinate at (0.332, 0.336) and moderate CCT at 5498 K. The photoluminescence intensity (PL) under constant temperature and alternative condition is both tested to study the thermal stability of the phosphor. The PL intensity shows no obvious change after 3 days of aging; only 4% of PL loss after 10 cycles of 25 °C /85 °C alternation. Based on its good PL properties and thermal stability, this carbon dots phosphor has great potential for white LED lighting.

Abstract:White light phosphors have many potential applications such as solid‐state lighting, full color displays, light source for plant growth, and crop improvement. However, most of these phosphors are rare‐earth‐based materials which are costly and would be facing the challenge of resource issue due to the extremely low abundance of these elements on earth. A new white color composite consisted of a graphitic‐phase nitrogen carbon (g‐C3N4) treated with nitric acid and copper‐cysteamine Cu3Cl(SR)2 is reported herein. Under a single wavelength excitation at 365 nm, these two materials show a strong blue and red luminescence, respectively. It is interesting to find that the white light emission with a quantum yield of 20% can be obtained by mixing these two self‐activated luminescent materials at the weight ratio of 1:1.67. Using a 365 nm near‐ultraviolet chip for excitation, the composite produces a white light‐emitting diode that exhibits an excellent color rendering index of 94.3. These white‐emitting materials are environment friendly, easy to synthesize, and cost‐effective. More importantly, this will potentially eliminate the challenge of rare earth resources. Furthermore, a single chip is used for excitation instead of a multichip, which can greatly reduce the cost of the devices.

Abstract:Benefiting from the large Stokes shift between fluorescence and phosphorescence, fluorescence/phosphorescence dual-emitting carbon dots (CDs) have gradually entered at the stage of single-phase white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) as 'green material'. However, most of the developed dual-emitting CDs have weak phosphorescence, short emission wavelength and narrow emission band, resulting in relatively bluish white light emission and low color rendering index (CRI). Herein, an ultrabroad-band fluorescence/phosphorescence dual-emitting CD-based material () is prepared by thermal treatment of boric acid (BA) and CDs with large conjugated structure. The stable covalent bonding between CDs and BA, as well as three-dimensional spatial restriction effect of self-polymerization BA molecules around CDs during long-term heating efficiently rigidified the single/triplet excited states of CDs from non-radiative deactivation, thus producing strong dual emissive materials with the high phosphorescence quantum yield of 21%. Remarkable, the prepared powders exhibit bright pure white light emission with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.32, 0.33) and the highest reported full width at half maximum of 250 nm. Based on the unique characteristics of , it was used as a color conversion layer to prepare a WLED with CIE coordinates of (0.35, 0.33) and the CRI value of 87.

Abstract:Single-phased, high-color-rendering index (CRI) white-light phosphors are emerging as potential phosphor-converted white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) and as an alternative to blends of tricolor phosphors. However, it is a challenge to create a high CRI white light from a single-doped activator. Here, we present a high CRI (Ra = 91) white-light phosphor, Sr5(PO4)3-x(BO3)xCl:Eu2+, composed of Sr5(PO4)3Cl as the beginning member and Sr5(BO3)3Cl as the end member. This work utilized the solid-solution method, and tunable Eu2+ emission was achieved. Color-tunable Eu2+ emissions in response to structural variation were observed in Sr5(PO4)3-x(BO3)xCl solid solutions. This was further confirmed using X-ray Rietveld refinement, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, and in the photoluminescence spectra. The color-tunable emissions included the white light that originated from the combination of the blue emission of Sr5(PO4)3Cl:Eu2+ and an induced Eu2+ yellow emission at approximately 550 nm in the solid solution. Importantly, the white-light phosphors showed a greater R9 = 90.2 under excitation at 365 nm. This result has rarely been reported in the literature and is greater than that of (R9 = 14.3) commercial Y3Al5O12:Ce3+-based WLEDs. These findings demonstrate the great potential of Sr5(PO4)3-x(BO3)xCl:0.04Eu2+ as a white-light phosphor for near-UV phosphor-converted WLEDs. These results also provide a shortcut for developing a high CRI white-light phosphor from a single Eu2+-doped compound.

Abstract:Broadband white‐light emissions from low‐dimensional organic metal halides have received great attention for applications in energy‐efficient lighting and displays. However, the simultaneous realization of excellent color rendering indexes (CRIs) and high photoluminescence quantum efficiencies (PLQEs) in single‐component white‐light emitters remains a great challenge. Here, a unique 0D organic copper iodide (TPA)CuI2 (TPA = tetrapropylammonium) is developed, in which the edge‐sharing double trigonal planar [Cu2I4]2− dimers are surrounded by the organic cations TPA+, forming core/shell structures at the molecular level. These organic copper iodide single crystals exhibit a dual‐band white‐light emission covering the entire visible spectrum with a high PLQE of 84.4% and an excellent CRI of 91.3. In addition, (TPA)CuI2 nanocrystals are successfully synthesized and exhibit optical properties similar to those of the single‐crystal counterparts. Detailed photophysical studies reveal that the dual‐band emission originates from two self‐trapped emitting states in [Cu2I4]2− dimers, whose populations are strongly dependent on the temperature. The promising applications of (TPA)CuI2 as efficient and high CRI phosphors are demonstrated by a white‐light light‐emitting diode with a Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage coordinate of (0.31, 0.33). High photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQE) and color rendering index (CRI) are two essential requirements for phosphors to achieve efficient lighting. However, the simultaneous realization of high PLQE and CRI in single‐component white‐light emitters remains great challenge. Here, a single‐component white‐light emitter based on organic copper iodide is developed, which exhibits dual‐band emission with high PLQE of 84.4% and CRI of 91.3.

Abstract:In order to achieve a high color-rendering index (CRI) and low correlated color temperature (CCT) indoor lighting, single-component phosphors with broad-band dual emission are in high demand for white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). However, phosphors with such fluorescent properties are rare at present. Herein, we report a facile solid-state chemical method for the synthesis of single-component phosphor with broad-band emission and a large Stokes shift that can meet the requirements of future white-light sources. These new tetrabutylammonium copper halides phosphors have excellent warm white emission characteristics, and their luminescence peaks are located at 494 and 654 nm. The optimized photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield can reach 93.7 %. The typical CIE coordinate of the as-fabricated WLED is at (0.3620, 0.3731) with a CRI of 89 and low CCT of 4516 K.

Abstract:The development of phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with high quantum yield, high color-rendering index (CRI), and moderate correlated color temperature is highly desirable and remains a challenging task. Herein, a new yellow phosphor is designed and synthesized via the simultaneous encapsulation of three highly luminescent dyes, Cou-6, R6G, and R101 into microporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) ZJU-28. Due to the matched spectral overlap and efficient energy transfer processes among these dyes within MOFs, the single-phase phosphor ZJU-28 superset of Cou-6/R6G/R101 (0.016 wt% Cou-6, 0.010 wt% R6G, and 0.014 wt% R101) emits bright and warm white light with high quantum yield of 82.9%, under the excitation of 460 nm blue light. In addition, by integrating the MOF phosphor on commercially available 460 nm blue LED chips, a high performance WLED lamp with a luminous efficiency value of 126 lm W-1, moderate correlated color temperature of 4446 K, and high CRI of 88 is obtained, opening a new perspective for the development of white-light-emitting diodes.

Abstract:Rare‐earth containing phosphors have been widely applied in lighting and display fields in the past century. Lower cost rare‐earth free phosphors with high performance are highly desired driven by the exhaustion of rare earth resources and the requirement of cheaper production. Herein, Cu+ ions doped tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) yellow emitting phosphors with quantum yield of 21% are exploited. Particularly, ultra‐broad band emission with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) about 200 nm throughout almost entire visible light region is observed for TTCP: Cu+ phosphors, evidencing its promising application in high color rendering index (CRI) lighting source. White light emission with CRI value about 94.3 is generated by combining this TTCP: Cu+ phosphor with commercial BaMgAl10O17: Eu2+ blue phosphor, exhibiting superiority over the traditional trichromatic phosphors. Therefore, we predict great potential application for this cheaper rare‐earth free TTCP: Cu+ phosphor in high CRI lighting sources.

Abstract:A single-phased warm white phosphor of α-Sr2V1.98P0.02O7: 0.5 % Eu3+ with low correlated color temperature (CCT) and high color rendering index (CRI) was synthesized by high temperature solid phase method. By changing the ratio of PO4 3−/VO4 3−, the emission intensity of VO4 3− and the energy transfer efficiency of VO4 3−→Eu3+ can be effectively tuned, and the full-spectrum warm white light emission of phosphors in the range of 400−700 nm can be realized. Moreover, the temperature-dependent emission spectra and thermal quenching properties were investigated in detail. On this basis, the WLED prototype devices were packaged with the synthesized phosphors α-Sr2V1.98P0.02O7: 0.5 % Eu3+ and 365 nm near-ultraviolet (NUV) chips and high-quality warm white light emission with CCT = 3188 K and CRI Ra = 93.5 were achieved. These findings provide new insights into exploring single-phased white phosphors for NUV-pumped warm w-LEDs with high CRI property and low CCT value.

High-Efficiency All Fluorescence White OLEDs with High Color Rendering Index by Manipulating Excitons in Co-host Recombination Layer

Abstract:All fluorescence white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) based on thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters are an attractive route to realize highly efficient and high color quality white light sources. However, harvesting triplet excitons in these devices remains a formidable challenge, particularly for WOLEDs involving conventional fluorescent emitters. Herein, we report a universal design strategy based on a co-host system and a cascaded exciton transfer configuration. The co-host system furnishes a broad and charge-balanced exciton generation zone, which simultaneously endows the devices with low efficiency roll-off and good color stability. A yellow TADF layer is put forward as an intermediate sensitizer layer between blue TADF EML and red fluorescent EML, which not only constructs an efficient cascaded Förster energy transfer route but also blocks triplet exciton loss channel through Dexter energy transfer. With the proposed design strategy, three-color all fluorescence WOLEDs reach a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 22.4% with a remarkable color rendering index (CRI) of 92 and CIE coordinates of (0.37, 0.40). Detailed optical simulation confirms the high exciton utilization efficiency. Finally, by introducing an efficient blue emitter 5Cz-TRZ, a maximum EQE of 30.1% is achieved with CIE coordinates of (0.42, 0.42) and a CRI of 84 at 1000 cd m-2. These outstanding results demonstrate the great potential of all fluorescence WOLEDs in solid-state lighting and display panels.

Realizing White LEDs with High Luminous Efficiency and High Color Rendering Index by Using Double Green Phosphors

Abstract:The luminous efficiency of radiation (LER) and color rendering index (CRIs) are two key technological parameters of white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), But there is always a trade-off between them, especially between LER and R9 (the 9th CRI of red color). Therefore, it is necessary to solve this problem by selecting suitable phosphors, mixing and coating it on the LED chip. In this work, two green phosphors and one red phosphor with less resorption of the two phosphors were selected by measuring the excitation spectra of seven red phosphors and emission spectra of two green phosphors. Then, different mass ratios of the phosphors were mixed with the AB glue and coated on the blue LED chips. After optimizing the ratio by measuring the luminescence spectra of the LED chips coated with different mass ratios of phosphors, high-quality white LEDs with LER = 142.74 lm/w, Ra = 97, R9 = 98.53, and the correlated color temperature of 3666 K were obtained. These LEDs have both high LER and high CRIs, further reducing the trade-off between luminous efficiency and color rendering index, which makes it can widely used for high quality solid state lighting.

The resultant MOF ⊃ dye composite exhibits a broadband white emission with ideal CIE coordinates of (0.34, 0.32), high CRI value of 91, and moderate CCT value of 5327 K.
Single-Phase White-Light Phosphors Based on a Bicarbazole-Based Metal–Organic Framework with Encapsulated Dyes

Abstract:Single-phase phosphors are promising materials for the production of new white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), whereas efficient white-light-emitting phosphors with high color rendering index (CRI) values still remain rare. Herein, we report a new metal–organic framework (MOF) [Zn4O(BCTA)1.5] (BUT-119) with high porosity and intense blue photoluminescence emission, which is constructed from a bicarbazole-based ligand, 4,4′,4″,4‴-(9,9′-bicarbazole-3,3′,6,6′-tetrayl)tetrabenzolate (BCTA4–), and Zn4O cluster. The simultaneous encapsulation of a red-emitting dye, Rhodamine B (RhB) or Basic Red 2 (BR), and a green-emitting dye, Acriflavine (AF), into the pores of BUT-119 results in two single-phase white phosphors, AF/RhB@BUT-119 and AF/BR@BUT-119, showing bright and warm white light emission with high quantum yields (22% and 19%) due to efficient energy transfer among the MOF host and the guest dye molecules. Noteworthily, the CRI values of AF/RhB@BUT-119 and AF/BR@BUT-119 are high up to 94, higher than those of previously reported white-light-emitting MOF-based materials, suggesting their high potential in the fabrication of WLEDs.
