Abstract:The 25th edition of the International Reid Bioanalytical Forum (REID) was held at the Cambridge Belfry (Cambourne, UK) between 4 and 7 September 2023 and hosted approximately 100 delegates, the majority of whom were attending the event for their first time. REID encourages early-career researchers to present their work and have a bursary program to help provide them support. At the 2023 event, REID welcomed 15 bursary winners to provide them with the opportunity to participate in their first international meeting, network with their peers and make their first oral, or poster presentation. The bursary winners also had the opportunity to interview with the Bioanalysis journal and their responses to the interview questions are transcribed below in this second part of two.

Abstract:The 25th edition of the International Reid Bioanalytical Forum was held at the Cambridge Belfry (Cambourne, UK) between 4 and 7 September 2023 attended by approximately 100 delegates, the majority of who were attending the event for the first time. The history of this event goes back to 1975, organized by the late Eric Reid, then director of the Wolfson Bioanalytical Unit at the University of Surrey (UK). It has run every two years since then, with some minor changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Now run under the auspices of the Chromatographic Society, it retains much of its original character, encouraging young bioanalytical practitioners to learn from more experienced ones and appreciating the sharing of challenges, as much as successes. The event maintained its reputation for providing an inclusive and congenial atmosphere for discussions on the latest hot topics from the world of bioanalysis. We actively encourage early career researchers to present their work and have a bursary program to help provide them support. We also enthusiastically welcome participants from the broad bioanalytical community, bringing a richness, creativity and opportunities for cross-fertilization of ideas, rarely found at other events.

Abstract:The 7th Young Scientist Symposium, a meeting again organized as a hybrid online event by young scientists for young scientists under the umbrella of the European Bioanalysis Forum and in collaboration with the Universities of Bologna and Ghent, included a variety of interesting presentations on cutting-edge bioanalytical science and processes. On the morning of day 2, the meeting hosted their traditional Science Café around the theme: 'How has COVID-19 changed our future?' in which the Young Scientist Symposium organizing committee engaged with the delegates on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the careers of young scientists working in a bioanalytical (industry or academic) laboratory, that is, things they lost, for good or for bad - things they gained, wanted or unwanted, things they learned about themselves and their industry. This manuscript provides feedback from those discussions.

Abstract:The European Bioanalysis Forum is a bioanalytical nonprofit organization comprised of European pharmaceutical companies (27 members to date) and currently expanding to include CROs as well. The European Bioanalysis Forum provides a broad European bioanalytical network for the discussion of scientific, technological and regulatory topics of bioanalytical interest. The 3rd Annual Open Symposium was again much anticipated after the two previous successful meetings. The symposium included sessions on thinking outside the 'commodity' box, bioanalytical challenges with blood, global harmonization, assay platforms, dried blood spots, immunogenicity, matrix effects, anomalous results, biomarkers and two plenary technology sessions hosted by the Platinum sponsors. Experts and key opinion leaders were invited as guest speakers. A total of 424 delegates registered from 113 companies representing a large percentage of the European bioanalytical community. In addition to 48 oral presentations, 88 posters were presented and there was a vendor exposition of 40 companies.

Abstract:As part of the European Bioanalysis Forum's continued commitment to develop young scientists beyond their scientific skills, we also focus on soft skills and a community responsibility during the Young Scientist Symposia, with the Science Café. In previous years, we have focused on topics such as sustainability (green lab) or the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on career development. At the ninth Young Scientist Symposium, the Science Café roundtables focused on the work–life balance and how caring for it can be beneficial for both the individual and the company. Feedback from a premeeting survey and from the discussions during the roundtables can be an important addition to personal and professional development. If organizations are not already focusing on the importance of a healthy work–life balance, they can be inspired to include some aspects of the outcome of the Science Café discussions when developing their staff toward future (scientific) leadership.

Over 1000 professionals representing pharma/biotech companies, CROs, and multiple regulatory agencies convened to actively discuss the most current topics of interest in bioanalysis. The 17 th WRIB included 3 Main Workshops and 7 Specialized Workshops that together spanned 1 week to allow an exhaustive and thorough coverage of all major issues in bioanalysis of biomarkers, immunogenicity, gene therapy, cell therapy and vaccines. Moreover, in-depth workshops on "EU IVDR 2017/746 Implementation and impact for the Global Biomarker Community: How to Comply with these NEW Regulations" and on "US FDA/OSIS Remote Regulatory Assessments (RRAs)" were the special features of the 17 th edition. As in previous years, WRIB continued to gather a wide diversity of international, industry opinion leaders and regulatory authority experts working on both small and large molecules as well as gene, cell therapies and vaccines to facilitate sharing and discussions focused on improving quality, increasing regulatory compliance, and achieving scientific excellence on bioanalytical issues. This 2023 White Paper encompasses recommendations emerging from the extensive discussions held during the workshop and is aimed to provide the bioanalytical community with key information and practical solutions on topics and issues addressed, in an effort to enable advances in scientific excellence, improved quality and better regulatory compliance. Due to its length, the 2023 edition of this comprehensive White Paper has been divided into three parts for editorial reasons. This publication (Part 3) covers the recommendations on Gene Therapy, Cell therapy, Vaccines and Biotherapeutics Immunogenicity. Part 1A (Mass Spectrometry Assays and Regulated Bioanalysis/BMV), P1B (Regulatory Inputs) and Part 2 (Biomarkers, IVD/CDx, LBA and Cell-Based Assays) are published in volume 16 of Bioanalysis, issues 8 and 9 (2024), respectively.

Abstract:The 15th Japan Bioanalysis Forum (JBF) Symposium was held in Kyoto, Japan, between 5 and 7 February 2024. The conference theme, 'Toward the new world - Science as a universal endeavor' indicated that universal discussion based on science is making a basis of regulatory and analytical sciences, now internationally harmonized. The symposium discussed a wide range of topics, including ICH M10, quantitative PCR, immunogenicity, peptide LC-MS, e-notebooks, artificial intelligence, reliability standards, carrier development, inviting domestic and overseas experts. Approximately 360 attendees from various fields, including pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations, academia and regulators, gathered in person or online.

Abstract:The 2016 10th Workshop on Recent Issues in Bioanalysis (10th WRIB) took place in Orlando, Florida with participation of close to 700 professionals from pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, contract research organizations, and regulatory agencies worldwide. WRIB was once again a 5-day, weeklong event - A Full Immersion Week of Bioanalysis including Biomarkers and Immunogenicity. As usual, it was specifically designed to facilitate sharing, reviewing, discussing and agreeing on approaches to address the most current issues of interest including both small and large molecule analysis involving LCMS, hybrid LBA/LCMS, and LBA approaches, with the focus on biomarkers and immunogenicity. This 2016 White Paper encompasses recommendations emerging from the extensive discussions held during the workshop, and is aimed to provide the bioanalytical community with key information and practical solutions on topics and issues addressed, in an effort to enable advances in scientific excellence, improved quality and better regulatory compliance. This white paper is published in 3 parts due to length. This part (Part 1) discusses the recommendations for small molecules, peptides and small molecule biomarkers by LCMS. Part 2 (Hybrid LBA/LCMS and regulatory inputs from major global health authorities) and Part 3 (large molecule bioanalysis using LBA, biomarkers and immunogenicity) will be published in the Bioanalysis journal, issue 23.

Abstract:STEM Fellowship’s Inter-University Big Data Challenge offers a distinctive opportunity for university students globally to engage in a hands-on learning experience that combines computational thinking and Big Data exploration to seek solutions to health-related challenges at the national, regional, community, and individual levels. It serves as an innovative platform for identifying and nurturing research and development talent through the application of computational science and effective scholarly communication. Within this program, participants gain access to a diverse range of workshops focused on data analytics, programming, and science communication. Through these workshops, students acquire valuable skills in Python, R, machine learning, LaTeX, and Overleaf, enabling them to tackle complex data-driven problems. By providing these tools and fostering experiential learning, the program equips students with the necessary knowledge and expertise to contribute meaningfully to the field of Data Science and its applications in various domains, including healthcare. This year, the program participants explored the theme of “Leveraging Open Data Analytics and Machine Learning to Improve Diagnosis of Diseases, Patients’ Care and Support” and suggested a whole spectrum of original Open Data and Machine Learning based ideas and solutions. The research topics presented encompass a wide range of areas, spanning from repurposing drugs for the treatment of rare diseases and employing machine learning techniques to detect the progression of Parkinson's disease, to developing an ESG-focused governance framework aimed at enhancing patient care. Overall, we received submissions from student teams from practically all leading Canadian universities, mixed teams of students from Canada and the US, and Asian universities. On behalf of the STEM Fellowship, we extend our sincere congratulations to all students who participated in the program and wish them the best for their future academic and professional endeavors. We want to express our appreciation to all the mentors and volunteers. Abstract:Introduction The British Cardiovascular Society (BCS)/British Heart Foundation (BHF)/British Atherosclerosis Society (BAS)/British Society for Cardiovascular Research (BSCR) Young Investigator Award (YIA) was established in 2001. The competition is open to both clinicians (who are not consultants) and basic scientists, who are no more than 5 years post-PhD. This year, five finalists were selected from 49 applicants. The finalists presented their work and answered questions from a panel of independent judges at the BCS Annual Conference 2024 in Manchester on 4 June 2024. This year's finalists conducted research on a variety of topics within the domains of coronary disease and cardiomyopathy, with entries highlighting the diverse experimental methods that are used in cardiovascular research. Abstract:The Biocatalysis Faraday Discussion was held from May 22 to 24, 2024, at the Royal Society of Chemistry in Burlington House, London. This meeting brought together established and early-career scientists, PhD students, and industrial researchers from around the world to engage in rigorous scientific dialogue on the latest advancements in biocatalysis. The conference featured a unique format, where speakers submitted full papers in advance and presented concise summaries, sparking in-depth discussions among participants. This report summarises the event, the presented results, and the concluding remarks, underscoring the collaborative and intellectually stimulating atmosphere of the Faraday Discussions.

Abstract:The International Society of Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) Annual Meeting (https://www.isber.org/page/2024Annual) is recognized as the premier event in the field of biobanking. Delegates from around the world meet to network, learn, share their expertise, experience, and progress—contributing to the advancement of biospecimen science. This year, the global biobanking community will convene in Melbourne, Australia, April 8–12. Themed "Dreaming Beyond Barriers: The Future of Biobanking," this meeting will reflect upon and celebrate the impact of the biobanking community, its innovation and resilience in overcoming barriers, and shared dreams for the future. This annual meeting will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of ISBER, honoring its pioneers and impact, with a look toward the pivotal role that ISBER will play in building the future.
