Abstract:As one of the important photocatalysts for solving the energy crisis and environmental pollution, semiconductor titanium dioxide (TiO2) has attracted widespread attention and been widely studied due to its advantages, including pollution-free nature, nontoxicity, and high photoelectric conversion efficiency. It has essential applications in the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes and clean production of hydrogen. However, due to the wide bandgap of TiO2 and rapid photoinduced electron-hole recombination, the light utilization rate is under expectation. It was demonstrated that molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and TiO2 nanocomposites with excellent photocatalytic performance showed pronounced catalytic synergistic effects. This endows TiO2/MoS2-based nanocomposites with much better performance, expanding their application prospects in the fields of photocatalysis and rechargeable lithium/sodium-ion batteries. In this work, several typical preparation methods of TiO2/MoS2 hybrid materials are introduced in detail, including hydrothermal methods, atomic layer deposition methods and mechanochemical synthesis methods. The enhancement mechanisms of photocatalysts are also discussed. In addition, this work summarizes the new design schemes developed in recent years and provides various comprehensive construction strategies. Finally, the applications of TiO2/MoS2 composites in solar fuels, ion batteries, degradation of organic molecules, reduction of CO2 and multifunctional optical sensors are presented.
Hydrothermal synthesis of MoS2 nanosheet loaded TiO2 nanoarrays for enhanced visible light photocatalytic applications.

Abstract:A molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheet-decorated titanium dioxide (TiO2) NRA heterojunction composite was fabricated successfully through a two-step hydrothermal approach. Microstructures and optical properties of specimens were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The gaps of the TiO2 nanorods have been filled with tiny MoS2 nanosheets, which can increase the surface area of MoS2/TiO2 NRA composite thin films. In addition, the photocatalytic activity of the thin films were measured and discussed in greater detail. The appropriate hydrothermal reaction temperature of MoS2 is important for the growth of perfect MoS2/TiO2 NRA composites with significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance. The photodegradation rate and k value of MoS2-220/TiO2 are 86% and 0.0105 min-1, respectively, which are much larger than those of blank TiO2. The enhanced photocatalytic performance could be attributed to the higher visible light absorption and the reduced recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.

Abstract:The novel few-layers MoS 2 sensitized Ag–TiO 2 were prepared through hydrothermal method, photoreduction method and spin-coating method, respectively. The microstructure, surface morphology, chemical composition and ultraviolet–visible absorbance of the samples were investigated systematically. The results indicated that the Ag nanoparticles and few-layers MoS 2 were deposited successfully on the surface of TiO 2 NRAs. The visible photocatalytic activity was estimated by degradation of methylene blue solution. The results indicated that the photocatalytic properties of MoS 2 /Ag–TiO 2 was larger than pure TiO 2 NRAs and Ag–TiO 2 . The significantly increased photocatalytic properties was attributed to the stronger visible light capture capability and the enhanced electron–hole pairs separation.

Abstract:Formation of heterostructure and nanostructure is promising approach to improving the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 based photocatalysts. In this work, MoS2@TiO2@poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was prepared by freeze drying of hydrothermally treated electrospun PMMA nanofibers containing titanium n-butoxide and MoS2 nanosheets. As-prepared nanocomposite revealed a 3D nanofiber network structure with high specific surface (83.6 m2/g), in which MoS2 nanosheets loaded with TiO2 nanoparticles were distributed on the surface of PMMA fibers. MoS2@TiO2@PMMA showed better photocatalytic performance than MoS2@PMMA, TiO2@PMMA, MoS2@TiO2 and MoS2@P25@PMMA towards the photodegradation of methyl orange (MO) under UV illumination. Typically, MoS2@TiO2@PMMA (100 mg) could degrade MO (10 mg/L, 100 mL) completely in 40 min under UV irradiation, revealing good photocatalytic activity. Moreover, the nanocomposite could be facilely recovered by filtration, and maintain almost the same photocatalytic activity after cycling tests for ten times, indicating excellent stability and recyclability. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposite might relate to the heterostructure between MoS2 and TiO2 to suppress the recombination of photo-induced charge, and the 3D hierarchical nanoweb structure to afford large specific surface area and high density of active sites.

Abstract:We report one dimensional (1D) MoS2 nanosheet/porous TiO2 nanowire hybrid nanostructures synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, leading to an enhanced specific surface area (66 m(2) g(-1)). These 1D hybrid nanostructures as co-catalysts exhibit high activity in visible light photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with an enhanced hydrogen generation rate of 16.7 mmol h(-1) g(-1).

Abstract:Titanium (Ti)‐based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted intensive attention due to the low toxicity, high earth's crust abundance, and unique photocatalytic properties of Ti elements. Great efforts have been devoted to the synthesis of novel architectures and their potential applications involving photocatalysis. However, Ti‐MOFs are still very scarce owing to their challenges in controlling the Ti chemistry in the reaction system. Until now, some significant results have been achieved, which may shed new insight into the future investigation of Ti‐MOFs. Herein, some representative researches in Ti‐MOFs are summarized and reviewed from the following four aspects: first, various synthetic strategies for preparing Ti‐MOFs are introduced; second, diverse structures containing multi‐connected ligands are presented in detail; third, the potential photocatalytic applications of Ti‐based MOFs involving H2 production, CO2 reduction, H2O2 production, N2 fixation, remediation of organic and inorganic pollutants, as well as organic transformation reaction and photocatalytic sensors are discussed; finally, perspectives on current challenges and emerging opportunities in this research field are discussed. Through summarizing this specific type of MOF, this review is expected to stimulate researchers' interest for in‐depth investigation of novel structures synthesis, as well as new applications and concepts in these intriguing fields.

Novel Tio2-Pt@Sio2 Nanocomposites With High Photocatalytic Activity

Abstract:This article reports a facile and controllable two-step method to construct TiO2-Pt@SiO2 nanocomposites. TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs), with small size and high surface energy, were synthesized by a solvothermal reaction process. The TiO2-Pt@SiO2 nanocomposites were fabricated by a reverse micro-emulsion method. SiO2 shell coated NPs were adopted for further photocatalytic reaction. Because of their small size and high surface energy, TiO2@SiO2 and TiO2-Pt@SiO2 nanocomposites show higher photocatalytic activity than commercial Degussa P25. Compared with TiO2@SiO2, TiO2-Pt@SiO(2)nanocomposites have improved photocatalytic activity due to the Pt induced spatial separation of electrons and holes. The silica shells not only maintain the structure of the nanocomposites but also prevent their aggregation during the photocatalytic reactions, which is highly important for the good durability of the photocatalyst. This strategy is simple, albeit efficient, and can be extended to the synthesis of other composites of noble metals. It has opened a new window for the construction of hetero-nanocomposites with high activity and durability, which would serve as excellent models in catalytic systems of both theoretical and practical interest.

Abstract:Hollow Nanosphere Heterojunctions In article number 1900337, Chaorong Li and co-workers synthesize MoS2 quantum dots (QDs) modified black Ti3+-TiO2/g-C3N4 hollow nanosphere heterojunctions via chemical template deposition and sculpture-reduction processes. The Ti3+/Ov can reduce the H2 activation barrier and increase the light response, the MoS2 QDs can increase the activity sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction, and the hollow nanosphere structure can increase specific surface areas and stability.

Abstract:Two-dimensional MoS2 nanosheets were in situ grown on TiO2 nanosheets to form two-dimensional (2D) hybrid nanojunctions, with which MoS2 nanosheets compactly contact with TiO2 to increase the interfacial area. MoS2 was identified as a promising cost-effective substitute for noble metal cocatalysts such as Pt, Au, and Ag, and shows superior activity and selectivity for reducing CO2 to CH3OH in aqueous solution to these metal cocatalysts under UV-vis light irradiation. The photo-luminescence (PL) spectra and transient time-resolved PL decay measurements reveal that the fast electron transfer from TiO2 to MoS2 can minimize charge recombination losses to improve the conversion efficiency of photoreduction. It reveals that Mo-terminated edges of MoS2 nanosheets possess the metallic character and a high d-electron density, and the Mo cation sites may benefit the stabilization of CHxOy intermediates via electrostatic attraction to enhance the CH3OH formation from the reduction of CO2 in aqueous solution.

Abstract:MoS2 quantum dots (QDs) that are 5 nm in size were deposited on the surface of ultrathin TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) with 5 nm wall thickness by using an improved hydrothermal method to form a MoS2 QDs@TNT visible-light photocatalyst. The ultrathin TNTs with high percentage of photocatalytic reactive facets were fabricated by the commercially available TiO2 nanoparticles (P25) through an improved hydrothermal method, and the MoS2 QDs were acquired by using a surfactant-assisted technique. The novel MoS2 QDs@ TNT photocatalysts showed excellent photocatalytic activity with a decolorization rate of 92% or approximately 3.5 times more than that of pure TNTs for the high initial concentration of methylene blue solution (20 mg l(-1)) within 40 min under visible-light irradiation. MoS2 as the co-catalysts favored the broadening of TNTs into the visible-light absorption scope. The quantum confinement and edge effects of the MoS2 QDs and the heterojunction formed between the MoS2 QDs and TNTs efficiently extended the lifetime of photoinduced charges, impeded the recombination of photoexcited electron-hole pairs, and improved the visible-light-driven high-efficiency photocatalysis.
2D/2D/2D heterojunction of Ti3C2 MXene/MoS2 nanosheets/TiO2 nanosheets with exposed (001) facets toward enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production activity

Abstract:Exposing the highly active facets and hybridizing the photocatalyst with appropriate cocatalysts with right placement have been regarded as a powerful approach to high performance photocatalysts. Herein, TiO2 nanosheets (NSs) are in situ grown on highly conductive Ti3C2 MXene and then MoS2 NSs are deposited on the (101) facets of TiO2 NSs with mainly exposed high-active (001) facets through a two-step hydrothermal method. And a unique 2D-2D-2D structure of Ti3C2@TiO2@MoS2 composite is achieved. With an optimized MoS2 loading amounts (15 wt%), the Ti3C2@TiO2@MoS2 composite shows a remarkable enhancement in the photocatalytic H2 evolution reaction compared with Ti3C2@TiO2 composite and TiO2 NS. It also shows good stability under the reaction condition. This arises from: (i) the in situ growth of TiO2 NSs construct strong interfacial contact with excellent electronic conductivity of Ti3C2, which facilitates the separation of carriers; (ii) the coexposed (101) and (001) facets can form a surface heterojunction within single TiO2 NS, which is beneficial for the transfer and separation of charge carriers; and (iii) the MoS2 NSs are deposited on the electrons-rich (101) facets of TiO2 NSs, which not only effectively reduces the charge carriers recombination rate by capturing photoelectrons, but also makes TiO2 NSs expose more highly active (001) facets to afford high-efficiency photogeneration of electron-hole pairs.

Abstract:Photocatalysis driven by functionalized metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is a promising direction for the development of renewable energy conversion and environmental pollution rehabilitation by direct utilization of solar energy. Among various MOFs, titanium (Ti)-based MOFs (Ti-MOFs) are an appealing set of MOFs for practical applications due to their relation to the commonly used TiO2, their unique structural features, relatively low toxicity and excellent optical properties. This review summarizes recent research progress on Ti-MOFs and their composites as well as the porous materials derived from them in photocatalytic applications. The selection of appropriate central metal ions and organic ligands has significant influence on the fabrication of Ti-MOFs with good photocatalytic properties. To regulate the photoresponse and photocatalytic activity, controllable integration of a Ti-MOF system with photo-sensitive materials, resulting in the formation of new multifunctional hybrids, is required. In addition, the calcination of Ti-MOF precursors provides a useful method for preparing promising photocatalysts with novel structures, close contact interfaces, and easy regulation. Finally, the opportunities and challenges for future exploration of Ti-MOFs are discussed from a critical perspective along with those of their composites and derived porous materials.

Hierarchical MoS2 Nanosheet@TiO2 Nanotube Array Composites with Enhanced Photocatalytic and Photocurrent Performances

[ 4,9,10 ] However, as an n-type wide band gap semiconductor, TiO 2 can solely absorb the UV light, which accounts for less than 5% over the full solar resource, thus signifi cantly limiting its widespread applications. In addition, the rapid recombination rate of photogenerated electronhole pairs of TiO 2 leads to a low quantum effi ciency and poor photocatalytic activity. In order to address these obstacles, a plethora of strategies have been explored to improve the photoresponse of 1D TiO 2 NTAs. For example, metal/ nonmetal impurity doping was shown to introduce mid-gap energy levels, which were expected to control the band gap response of the TiO 2 NTAs and enhance their visible spectrum properties. [ 11–15 ] In particular, the growth of TiO 2 -based composites (core-shell geometry or nanoparticle decoration) is considered to be one of the most promising routes due to the improvement of charge carrier separation. [ 16–19 ] It is of paramount importance to design effi cient semiconductorbased composites with desirable architectural structure/ morphology enabling synergistic impacts on the overall performance of photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical applications. Molybdenum disulfi de (MoS 2 ), a member of the layered transition metal dichalcogenides family, has been a focus of study for wide applications due to its high activity, excellent morphologies, good electronic and optical properties, such DOI: 10.1002/smll.201503441 A novel type of hierarchical nanocomposites consisted of MoS 2 nanosheet coating on the self-ordered TiO 2 nanotube arrays is successfully prepared by a facile combination of anodization and hydrothermal methods. The MoS 2 nanosheets are uniformly decorated on the tube top surface and the intertubular voids with fi lm appearance changing from brown to black color. Anatase TiO 2 nanotube arrays (NTAs) with clean top surfaces and the appropriate amount of MoS 2 precursors are key to the growth of perfect compositing TiO 2 @MoS 2 hybrids with signifi cantly enhanced photocatalytic activity and photocurrent response. These results reveal that the strategy provides a fl exible and straightforward route for design and preparation nanocomposites based on functional semiconducting nanostructures with 1D self-ordered TiO 2 NTAs, promising for new opportunities in energy/environment applications, including photocatalysts and other photovoltaic devices. Abstract:Organic–inorganic nanocomposite fibers can avoid the agglomeration of single nanoparticles and reduce the cost (nanoparticles assembled on the surface of nanofibers), but also can produce new chemical, electrical, optical, and other properties, with a composite synergistic effect. Aromatic polyimide (PI) is a high-performance polymer with a rigid heterocyclic imide ring and an aromatic benzene ring in its macromolecular framework. Due to its excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability, and easy-to-adjust molecular structure, PI has been widely used in electronics, aerospace, automotive, and other industries related to many applications. Here, we report that TiO2 nanorods were grown on polyimide nanofibers by hydrothermal reaction, and MoS2 nanosheets were grown on TiO2 nanorods the same way. Based on theoretical analysis and experimental findings, the possible growth mechanism was determined in detail. Further experiments showed that MoS2 nanosheets were uniformly coated on the surface of TiO2 nanorods. The TiO2 nanorods have photocatalytic activity in the ultraviolet region, but the bandgap of organic/inorganic layered nanocomposites can redshift to visible light and improve their photocatalytic performance.
