Abstract:Conventional analysis of preterm infant general movement analysis (GMA) requires long-term observation of a subject's body movement by medical experts with domain-specific knowledge, which is labor-intensive. Yet existing video-based human pose analysis systems either focus on adult data or full-term infant data, which is not robust against the preterm infant data that can be quite different. To bridge the gap between time-consuming observation-based preterm infant GMA and cost-effective pose analysis, we propose a video-based poor repertoire detection system for preterm infant GMA. To do this, we first collect smart phone-captured videos showing full-body motion of preterm infants, which are used to build a preterm infant GMA dataset with 70 sequences of 30-second video for 30 subjects. We then adapt state-of-the-art key-point detection and pose classification networks to build our proposed poor repertoire detection system. Experimental results show that our system detects the key-points of intra-subjects with a PCK@10 at 0.97 and the poor repertoire cases of intra-subjects with a rate 87%. Our proposed cost-effective video-based poor repertoire detection system thus has potential to affectively assist medical expects for screening preterm infants with poor repertoire motion.
