Abstract:Group consensus problems in networks of dynamic agents are addressed. We consider the case that communication topologies in a network are switching and the switching occurs among finite topologies. By using double-tree-form transformations, the group consensus is proved to be equivalent to the asymptotical stability of a class of switched linear systems under arbitrary switching signal. Moreover, we study the group consensus problem for the networks of dynamic agents with both switching topologies and transmission delays, some analysis results are derived by the similar technique. Simulation results are worked out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper studies both continuous and discrete time consensus problems for multi-agent systems with linear time-invariant agent dynamics over randomly switching topologies. The switching is governed by a time-homogeneous Markov process, whose state corresponds to a possible interaction topology among agents. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for achieving consensus under a common control protocol, respectively. It is shown that the effect of switching topologies on consensus is determined by the union of topologies associated with the positive recurrent states of the Markov process. Moreover, the effect of random link failures on discrete time consensus is investigated. The implications and relationships with the existing results are discussed. Finally, the theoretical results are validated via simulations.

Abstract:The consensus problem is addressed in this paper for a class of heterogeneous multi-agent systems under directed and switching topologies. A mild connectivity assumption on the switching topologies is imposed, which allows them to be directed and uniformly quasi-strongly δ-connected. The orders of all agents need not to be the same. We develop a node-duplication based technique to address the difficulty caused by the heterogeneous dynamics and switching topologies. By the node-duplication based technique, we design a distributed controller which only requires the output information to be exchanged through the communication networks. It is further proved that the proposed scheme enables the outputs of all agents to reach consensus, and the other states of all agents converge to zero. An example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:In this paper, the finite time consensus problem of distributed nonlinear systems is studied under the general setting of directed and switching topologies. Specifically, a contraction mapping argument is used to investigate performance of networked control systems, two classes of varying topologies are considered, and distributive control designs are presented to guarantee finite time consensus. The proposed control scheme employs a distributed observer to estimate the first left eigenvector of graph Laplacian and, by exploiting this knowledge of network connectivity, it can handle switching topologies. The proposed methodology ensures finite time convergence to consensus under varying topologies of either having a globally reachable node or being jointly strongly connected, and the topological requirements are less restrictive than those in the existing results. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:This study addresses the consensus problem for a class of any order multi-agent systems under switching topologies which could include kinds of unconsensusable topologies. The consensus problem, depending on structure properties and the corresponding topology, is researched with fixed structure properties under directed switching topologies. By the properties of Laplacian matrix, the consensus problem for multi-agent systems is converted into the stability problem of the corresponding switched systems with a Laplacian-like matrix. Some sufficient conditions for consensus are presented by using the dwell time approach. Finally, numerical examples and the results of computer simulation are given to verify the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a linear consensus protocol for networked multiagents. Different from the other protocols proposed before, it uses a state space form which can take the dynamics of the agents into account in a natural way. To deal with switching communication topology, the whole group dynamics is regarded as a time-varying system. Directed networks and undirected networks are both covered by this protocol with only a mild requirement that the whole multiagents group is connectivity. For the convenient we give out a general design routine of the decentralized controller of each vehicle to achieve the consensus. Simulations are carried out at the end to demonstrate the effectiveness of this protocol.

Abstract:This article studies a consensus problem for a group of high-order dynamic agents with fixed and switching topologies. Two linear consensus protocols, which only depend on the agent's own information and its neighbours' partial information, are proposed, respectively, for the group with and without communication time-delays. For the case of fixed topology and zero communication time-delay, a necessary and sufficient condition for the consensus is established. The parameter design of the protocol is also discussed. Under switching topology, the consensus is investigated for two cases: the case of zero communication time-delay and the case of nonuniform communication time-delays. For each case, a sufficient condition for the consensus is provided. Moreover, for a group of double/triple-integrator agents with fixed topology and uniform constant time-delay, some necessary and sufficient conditions for the consensus are given. Finally, numerical simulations are worked out to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the consensus problem of switched multi-agent system composed of continuous-time and discrete-time subsystems. By combining the classical consensus protocols of continuous-time and discrete-time multi-agent systems, we propose a linear consensus protocol for switched multi-agent system. Based on the graph theory and Lyapunov theory, we prove that the consensus of switched multi-agent system is solvable under arbitrary switching with undirected connected graph, directed graph and switching topologies, respectively. Simulation examples are also provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, the leader-following consensus problem of multi-agent is studied. A decentralized adaptive design method is presented for multi-agent systems with non-identical unknown nonlinear dynamics, and for a leader to be followed that is also nonlinear and unknown. By parameterizations of unknown nonlinear dynamics of all agents, a decentralized adaptive consensus algorithm is proposed for networks with switching topologies by using only relative position feedback of neighboring agents. Analysis of stability and parameter convergence of the proposed algorithm are conducted based on algebraic graph theory, Lyapunov theory and PE (Persistent Excitation) condition. Finally, an example is given to validate the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the consensus problem of second-order multi-agent systems with switching topologies by designing a time-delayed impulsive consensus control scheme. All the agents are governed by the same nonlinear intrinsic dynamics. In this study, agents can cooperate or compete with each other, i.e., the elements in the weight matrix of the coupling graph can be either positive or negative. By establishing a comparison system, a new comparison principle method is successfully applied to study such consensus problem. Then, several effective sufficient conditions are attained without assuming that the interaction topology is strongly connected or contains a directed spanning tree. Meanwhile, the exponential consensus rate is also obtained. Finally, simulation results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:This article, based on dissipativity theory, aims to tackle the consensus tracking issue for Lipschitz nonlinear singular multiagent systems (MASs) with switching topologies and communication delays. Rooted at the leader node, a directed spanning tree is assumed to be contained in the union of all possible interaction graphs. Within the framework of topology switching controlled by a Markov chain, communication delays encountered in the data transmission process are reasonably considered to be time-varying and dependent on Markovian jump modes. By using tools from the stochastic Lyapunov functional technique, algebraic graph theory, and strict (Q, S, R) - (alpha) over bar dissipativity analysis, the consensus controller collecting delayed in-neighboring agents' information is designed to ensure stochastic admissibility and strict dissipativity of the resulting consensus error system. The theoretical analysis is validated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:The consensus problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems under directed topologies is investigated. For continuous-time systems, a novel consensus algorithm is proposed. Based on a system transformation method, the consensus problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems is converted into a consensus problem for homogeneous multi-agent systems. Necessary and sufficient conditions are presented to guarantee that the designed consensus algorithm asymptotically solves the consensus for heterogeneous multi-agent systems under a fixed topology. The final convergence states are shown explicitly for this case. Sufficient conditions are given to guarantee that heterogeneous multi-agent systems reach consensus asymptotically under switching topologies. The obtained results are superior obviously to the existing ones in the literature. The counterparts about discrete-time systems are also investigated. Both periodic sampling and nonperiodic sampling are considered. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, the chi-consensus problems for multiple high-order dynamical agents within fixed and switching topologies are investigated. A linear protocol is established to globally asymptotically solve chi-consensus problem for such systems. Moreover, the decision value may be determined by the feedback gains and the initial states of agents. Based on spectral analysis of system's coefficient matrix some conditions are presented for solving the consensus problem with fixed topologies. In the switching topologies case solving the consensus problem is proved by the asymptotical stability analysis regarding to the origin of its disagreement dynamics through Lyapunov approach.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the consensus problem in networks of multiagents with stochastically switching topologies. The switch of graph topology is modeled as an adapted stochastic process, which in principle can include any stochastic processes such as independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) processes and Markov chains. We derive the sufficient conditions for consensus in both discrete-time and continuous-time networks in terms of conditional expectations of the underlying graph topology. We prove that if there exist $T>0$ and $\delta>0$ such that the conditional expectation of the union of the $\delta$-graph topologies across each $T$-length time interval has spanning trees, then the multiagent system reaches consensus. For comparison, we show that some previous results on this topic can be derived from our main theorem as corollaries. This includes important results when the switching topology can be modeled as the special and important stochastic models—the i.i.d. process and the Markov process—which implies that we generalize the previous results to some extent. As applications, we also give some corollaries concerning stochastic processes other than the i.i.d. process and Markov processes, such as independent but not necessarily identically distributed processes, hidden Markov models, and $\phi$-mixing processes.

Abstract:A consistency consensus control method for continuous multi-agent systems with second-order dynamic and switching topology is proposed. Two time-variant functions are introduced to represent the dynamic property of the multi-agent system. A time-variant function is introduced to trigger the topology switching action. The stability of the proposed approach is proved by using the Lyapunov theory. The simulation results tested the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a multi-agent consensus problem under undirected switching topologies. The dynamics of agents are expressed in the double integrator form. To achieve consensus, a neighbor-based control protocol is proposed for each second-order agent. By using a parameter-dependent common Lyapunov method, a sufficient consensus condition is established, which guarantees that all agents can achieve consensus and move with a given desired velocity. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our obtained result.

Abstract:In this contribution, we aim to examine the scaled consensus problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems, which comprise two kinds of agents: the agents with first-order dynamics and the agents with second-order dynamics. The scaled consensus here means that the ratios between the states of the agents asymptotically approach specified constants instead of the same value. Firstly, appropriate distributed control protocols are designed for first-order and second-order networked agents, respectively. Particularly, the effects of switching communication networks and time-varying delays on model performance are investigated in this paper. Secondly, an augmented system approach based on algebraic graph theory and non-negative matrix theory is adopted to solve the proposed scaled consensus problem. Finally, a sufficient criterion is established to certify the scaled consensus performance of mixed agents. The correctness of the theoretical result is demonstrated through several simulation examples.
