Abstract:An environmentally friendly method of dealing with crumb rubber to asphalt pavement and the excellent rheological performance of reclaimed rubber modified asphalt (RRMA) are introduced in this work. The results showed that the Mooney viscosity of reclaimed rubber (RR) decreased as the reclamation temperature increased. At the same time, the molecular weight of the sol fraction was reduced with the reclaiming degrees of rubber increased, over 50% reduction happened between ordinary crumb rubber(CR) and RR with 20 ML1+10@100?degrees C (ML20), which led the gel particles sizes in RRs to reach the micro-nano level and enhanced the interaction between rubber and asphalt. This also promoted the dissolution and dispersion of the rubber particles in RRMA, which indicated by microstructure of all rubber-modified asphalt. An improvement in the storage stability and a significant reduction of viscosity of rubber-modified asphalt were achieved through rubber reclamation. It would facilitate the implementation of higher blends of rubber-modified asphalt in engineering. Furthermore, the rheological properties were investigated using rotational viscosity, multi-stress creep recovery test, and linear amplitude sweep test and bending beam rheological test. Results showed as the reclaiming degrees of rubber increased, the rheological performance of RRMA was improved around the full-service temperature. With advantages of excellent road performance and distinguished environmental friendliness, RRMA has potential prospects in tire applications in the future.
