Abstract:To study the characteristics and sources of carbon components in PM2.5 in Qian'an, Tangshan, indoor and outdoor PM2.5 samples in coal-fired (coal heating) and noncoal-fired areas (central heating) were collected in January, 2016. The mass concentration of secondary organic carbon (SOC) was estimated using the OC/EC minimum ratio method, and the sources of carbon components were analyzed through factor analysis. The results revealed that the average indoor concentrations of OC and EC were respectively 38.59 and 9.58 mu g/m(3) in coal-fired areas and 20.22 and 4.26 mu g/m(3) in noncoal-fired areas. The average outdoor concentrations of OC and EC were respectively 13.95 and 3.05 mu g/m(3) in coal-fired areas and 8.75 and 1.83 mu g/m(3) in noncoal-fired areas. The indoor ratio of OC and EC (4.16) in coal-fired areas was lower than that in other sites, which suggested that EC was primarily the result of incomplete indoor coal combustion in coal-fired areas. SOC and OC levels in indoor coal-fired areas were higher than those in outdoor coal-fired areas, which suggested that SOC was more easily produced in indoor environments. The main sources of indoor and outdoor carbon aerosols were gasoline fuel emission, coal combustion, and diesel vehicle emission; however, their rate of contribution varied.
