Abstract:It has become possible to link anything and everything to the Internet in recent decades due to the expanding Internet of Things (IoT). As a result, our usage of technology has changed a lot, causing digital disruption in the real world. IoT allows drones, sensors, digital set‐top boxes, surveillance cameras, wearable technology, and medical equipment to be connected to the internet. Healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, transportation, and housing are among the various sectors that has become intelligent. Recently, we have seen a surge in cybersecurity challenges and opportunities for the improvement of various IoT applications. Although cybersecurity and the IoT are extensively researched, there is a dearth of studies that exclusively focus on the evolution of cybersecurity challenges in the area of AI and machine learning, blockchain and zero trust, lightweight security, integration of IoT with 5G networks, and many more in the IoT world. The availability of environment‐capturing sensors and internet‐connected tracking devices allows for private life surveillance and cloud data transmission. Therefore, a significant problem for researchers and developers is to ensure the CIA (Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability) security triangle for people. This paper presents a comprehensive study of cybersecurity applications, challenges, and opportunities in the IoT world. The IoT architectural layer, attacks against the IoT layer, and related issues are highlighted. Furthermore, cybersecurity issues and challenges in IoT along with the strength and weaknesses of existing techniques are discussed in detail. Our study will provide insight into various current cybersecurity research trends in the IoT world.

Abstract:The Internet of Things, or IoT, refers to the billions of physical objects around the planet that are now connected to the Internet, many of which store and exchange the data without human interaction. In recent years the Internet of Things (IoT) has incredibly become a groundbreaking technical innovation that has contributed to massive impact in the ways where all the information is handled incorporate companies, computer devices, and even kitchen equipment and appliances, are designed and made. The main focus of this chapter is to systematically review the security and privacy of the Internet of Things in the present world. Most internet users are genuine, yet others are cybercriminals with individual expectations of misusing information. With such possibilities, users should know the potential security and privacy issues of IoT devices. IoT innovations are applied on numerous levels in a system that we use daily in our day-to-day life. Data confidentiality is a significant issue. The interconnection of various networks makes it impossible for users to assert extensive control of their data. Abstract:Internet of Things (IoT) is playing a more and more important role after its showing up, it covers from traditional equipment to general household objects such as WSNs and RFID. With the great potential of IoT, there come all kinds of challenges. This paper focuses on the security problems among all other challenges. As IoT is built on the basis of the Internet, security problems of the Internet will also show up in IoT. And as IoT contains three layers: perception layer, transportation layer and application layer, this paper will analyze the security problems of each layer separately and try to find new problems and solutions. This paper also analyzes the cross-layer heterogeneous integration issues and security issues in detail and discusses the security issues of IoT as a whole and tries to find solutions to them. In the end, this paper compares security issues between IoT and traditional network, and discusses opening security issues of IoT.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly evolving technology that empowers billions of globally distributed physical things to be interconnected over the internet to capture, collect, exchange, and share a wide variety of vast amounts of data. These physical things incorporate all of the connectable devices ranging from conventional household devices to complex industrial devices (Javed et al. in IEEE Commun. Surv. Tutorials, 2018). The emergence of INDUSTRY 4.0 has revolutionized the industrial domain globally with a large and ever-increasing number of embedded devices, and computerized chips because of the expanding availability, affordability, microprocessors, sensors’ capacity, and omnipresent communication technologies. Connecting such a very large number of heterogeneous objects and implanting sensors to them leads to some degree of digital intelligence at devices that, empowering them to communicate instantaneous data with no human intervention.

Abstract:The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) connects a number of intelligent devices with a minimum of human interference that can interact with one another. IoT is rapidly emerging in the areas of computer science. However, new security problems were posed by the cross-cutting design of the multidisciplinary elements and IoT systems involved in deploying such schemes. Ineffective is the implementation of security protocols, i.e., authentication, encryption, application security, and access network for IoT systems and their essential weaknesses in security. Current security approaches can also be improved to protect the IoT environment effectively. In recent years, deep learning (DL)/ machine learning (ML) has progressed significantly in various critical implementations. Therefore, DL/ML methods are essential to turn IoT systems protection from simply enabling safe contact between IoT systems to intelligence systems in security. This review aims to include an extensive analysis of ML systems and state-of-the-art developments in DL methods to improve enhanced IoT device protection methods. On the other hand, various new insights in machine and deep learning for IoT Securities illustrate how it could help future research. IoT protection risks relating to emerging or essential threats are identified, as well as future IoT device attacks and possible threats associated with each surface. We then carefully analyze DL and ML IoT protection approaches and present each approach's benefits, possibilities, and weaknesses. This review discusses a number of potential challenges and limitations. The future works, recommendations, and suggestions of DL/ML in IoT security are also included.

Abstract:In the past few years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged, grown and gradually affected the daily lives of human beings in many new application domains, ranging from wearable devices, smart manufacturing, to smart homes and ambient intelligence just to mention a few. However, realizing the full potential of IoT while ensuring user security and privacy remains an open research challenge. Existing security solutions and techniques are mainly conceived for centralized and distributed information systems and are not directly applicable to IoT-based systems. In fact, IoT systems have unconventional characteristics such as intermittent connectivity, high scalability, dynamic changes and limited resources and thus require a paradigm shift to develop innovative security and privacy solutions. In this survey, we firstly give an overview of security and privacy in IoT. After defining the context of IoT systems, we identify four main characteristics, which imply unprecedented threats and challenges to existing security solutions and techniques. From the perspective of these characteristics and IoT security requirements, we identify and elaborate specific threats and challenges related to the radio-frequency identification (RFID), wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and mobile delay tolerant networks (MDTNs), which are building blocks in many IoT-based systems. In addition, we discuss potential countermeasures to handle IoT threats and challenges.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most widely used technologies today, and it has a significant effect on our lives in a variety of ways, including social, commercial, and economic aspects. In terms of automation, productivity, and comfort for consumers across a wide range of application areas, from education to smart cities, the present and future IoT technologies hold great promise for improving the overall quality of human life. However, cyber-attacks and threats greatly affect smart applications in the environment of IoT. The traditional IoT security techniques are insufficient with the recent security challenges considering the advanced booming of different kinds of attacks and threats. Utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) expertise, especially machine and deep learning solutions, is the key to delivering a dynamically enhanced and up-to-date security system for the next-generation IoT system. Throughout this article, we present a comprehensive picture on IoT security intelligence, which is built on machine and deep learning technologies that extract insights from raw data to intelligently protect IoT devices against a variety of cyber-attacks. Finally, based on our study, we highlight the associated research issues and future directions within the scope of our study. Overall, this article aspires to serve as a reference point and guide, particularly from a technical standpoint, for cybersecurity experts and researchers working in the context of IoT.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) has experienced constant growth in the number of devices deployed and the range of applications in which such devices are used. They vary widely in size, computational power, capacity storage, and energy. The explosive growth and integration of IoT in different domains and areas of our daily lives has created an Internet of Vulnerabilities (IoV). In the rush to build and implement IoT devices, security and privacy have not been adequately addressed. IoT devices, many of which are highly constrained, are vulnerable to cyber attacks, which threaten the security and privacy of users and systems. This survey provides a comprehensive overview of IoT in regard to areas of application, security architecture frameworks, recent security and privacy issues in IoT, as well as a review of recent similar studies on IoT security and privacy. In addition, the paper presents a comprehensive taxonomy of attacks on IoT based on the three-layer architecture model; perception, network, and application layers, as well as a suggestion of the impact of these attacks on CIA objectives in representative devices, are presented. Moreover, the study proposes mitigations and countermeasures, taking a multi-faceted approach rather than a per layer approach. Open research areas are also covered to provide researchers with the most recent research urgent questions in regard to securing IoT ecosystem.

Abstract:<p>Internet of Things (IoT) is a novel paradigm, which not only facilitates a large number of devices to be ubiquitously connected over the Internet but also provides a mechanism to remotely control these devices. The IoT is pervasive and is almost an integral part of our daily life. These connected devices often obtain user's personal data and store it online. The security of collected data is a big concern in recent times. As devices are becoming increasingly connected, privacy and security issues become more and more critical and these need to be addressed on an urgent basis. IoT implementations and devices are eminently prone to threats that could compromise the security and privacy of the consumers, which, in turn, could influence its practical deployment. In recent past, some research has been carried out to secure IoT devices with an intention to alleviate the security concerns of users. There have been research on blockchain technologies to tackle the privacy and security issues of the collected data in IoT. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the security and privacy issues in IoT systems. Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) aims to transform everyday physical objects into an interconnected ecosystem with digital data accessible anywhere and anytime. “Things” in IoT are embedded with sensing, processing, and actuating capabilities and cooperate in providing smart and innovative services autonomously. The rapid spread of IoT services arises different security vulnerabilities that need to be carefully addressed. Several emerging and promising technologies and techniques are introduced to improve the security of IoT. This paper aims to provide an up-to-date vision of the current research topics related to IoT security. Initially, we introduce common elements and protocols of IoT to demystify the origins of threats in IoT. Then, we propose a taxonomy of IoT attacks and analyze the security vulnerabilities of IoT at different layers. Subsequently, we provide a comparison of recent security schemes based on emerging solutions including fog computing, edge computing, software-defined networking (SDN), blockchain, lightweight cryptography, homomorphic and searchable encryption, and machine learning. Finally, security challenges are discussed and future directions are highlighted for future interested researchers.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) realizes a vision where billions of interconnected devices are deployed just about everywhere, from inside our bodies to the most remote areas of the globe. As the IoT will soon pervade every aspect of our lives and will be accessible from anywhere, addressing critical IoT security threats is now more important than ever. Traditional approaches where security is applied as an afterthought and as a "patch" against known attacks are insufficient. Indeed, next-generation IoT challenges will require a new secure-by-design vision, where threats are addressed proactively and IoT devices learn to dynamically adapt to different threats. To this end, machine learning and software-defined networking will be key to provide both reconfigurability and intelligence to the IoT devices. In this paper, we first provide a taxonomy and survey the state of the art in IoT security research, and offer a roadmap of concrete research challenges related to the application of machine learning and software-defined networking to address existing and next-generation IoT security threats.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) integrates billions of smart devices that can communicate with one another with minimal human intervention. IoT is one of the fastest developing fields in the history of computing, with an estimated 50 billion devices by the end of 2020. However, the crosscutting nature of IoT systems and the multidisciplinary components involved in the deployment of such systems have introduced new security challenges. Implementing security measures, such as encryption, authentication, access control, network and application security for IoT devices and their inherent vulnerabilities is ineffective. Therefore, existing security methods should be enhanced to effectively secure the IoT ecosystem. Machine learning and deep learning (ML/DL) have advanced considerably over the last few years, and machine intelligence has transitioned from laboratory novelty to practical machinery in several important applications. Consequently, ML/DL methods are important in transforming the security of IoT systems from merely facilitating secure communication between devices to security-based intelligence systems. The goal of this work is to provide a comprehensive survey of ML methods and recent advances in DL methods that can be used to develop enhanced security methods for IoT systems. IoT security threats that are related to inherent or newly introduced threats are presented, and various potential IoT system attack surfaces and the possible threats related to each surface are discussed. We then thoroughly review ML/DL methods for IoT security and present the opportunities, advantages and shortcomings of each method. We discuss the opportunities and challenges involved in applying ML/DL to IoT security. These opportunities and challenges can serve as potential future research directions.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is a vast network of devices with sensors or actuators connected through wired or wireless networks. It has a transformative effect on integrating technology into people's daily lives. IoT covers essential areas such as smart cities, smart homes, and health-based industries. However, security and privacy challenges arise with the rapid growth of IoT devices and applications. Vulnerabilities such as node spoofing, unauthorized access to data, and cyberattacks such as denial of service (DoS), eavesdropping, and intrusion detection have emerged as significant concerns. Recently, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods have significantly progressed and are robust solutions to address these security issues in IoT devices. This paper comprehensively reviews IoT security research focusing on ML/DL approaches. Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is a well-known technology that has a significant impact on many areas, including connections, work, healthcare, and the economy. Cyberattacks and threats, on the other hand, have a significant impact on intelligent IoT applications. Abstract:The increasing prevalence of IoT devices has brought about numerous security challenges due to their relatively simple internal architecture and low-powered hardware warranted by their small footprint requirement. As there are billions of IoT devices in use today, the sheer number of such devices pose a great security challenge as they are often constrained by a number of hardware and software limitations in addition to being designed with a focus on convenience, ease of use, mass production, and low cost, rather than security. The seemingly exponentially increasing number of such devices make it harder to keep track of – and patch – insecure IoT devices. This paper explores the common security threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities relating to IoT devices and highlights the challenges associated with securing them against emerging security threats and cyberattacks. Due to their role as gateways to connected devices and susceptibility to forming botnets or facilitating man-in-the-middle attacks, IoT devices are a lucrative target for cybercriminals. The paper discusses various remediation and mitigation techniques that can be implemented to better secure IoT devices, including access control mechanisms, secure communication protocols, and regular updates and patches. By better understanding the security challenges associated with IoT devices and implementing effective mitigation techniques, individuals and businesses can ensure the safety, security, and privacy of their connected devices and networks.
